So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

Yes, we are not forcing anyone to have the vaccine however it is not up to them to then behave like they have had it and spread it to others.

That is the issue.

Latelatelate · 14/05/2021 18:46

Marsha
Schools can’t stay shut forever we’re way beyond that now.

I didn’t say I wanted schools shut. I also don’t want them to shut again in the future.
I said that CW didn’t need to tell us that schools being open has resulted in rates going up. We knew it would happen.

RhubarbTea · 14/05/2021 18:48

@PurpleDaisies I was being lighthearted and not looking to offend, apologies if my comment appeared offensive. My mum is deaf, actually.

Great you knew something.

Not sure he has to stick to what everyone doesn’t know already.

I missed him saying anything on this, it’s no big deal though is it, if he mentions it.

wildchild554 · 14/05/2021 18:48

There are still risks for some of us vulnerable ones that can't be vacinated, but I still want to get on with my life and do my own risk assessments, and I want be able to see the people I care about. 1 of which might not make another 6 months and hoping to get a trip up there the beginning of summer as i know it may be the last time my kids and I get to see her.

Myalternate · 14/05/2021 18:49

@Rosehip10

Looks like Vallance stormed out pre-conference.
How do you know he did as he wasn't scheduled to appear?

What do you mean ‘behave like they’ve had it’ As far as I know, vaccinated people still have to follow the same rules as unvaccinated people.
PomRuns · 14/05/2021 18:50

What did CW say about schools? He'd always said there would be increase with schools/work places opening.
It's really not unexpected. We've had no cases in school (since opening) or at work (nhs) for weeks now.

PrincessNutNuts · 14/05/2021 18:51
@penni00 maybe we have to suck up to India because of brexit, I dunno...
politics is in the mix for sure in all these decisions anyway
Yes.

The government waited until their trade deals with the Indian delegation were done.

I think they also waited until after the election.

The Indian trade delegates that came here - from a country having arguably the worst covid crisis on earth - weren't even asked to quarantine.

And some of them got ill and tested positive for covid while they were here.

This orange line started to climb on April 21st.

We've been talking about the Indian variant on here since weeks before that.

It was identified in March.

How long has our government known it was spreading here?

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 18:53

Have hospitalisations gone up?

That’s the metric to look at. Otherwise you’ll be limiting transmission at variants. It’s no small deal to stall opening up.

Unsure33 · 14/05/2021 18:55

@Lostinacloud

So give me one reason why a the government would willingly want to go back into lockdown and engineer it deliberately ? Because that is what you are implying.

Everyday we are in lockdown we are leaking money at a fast rate . Also that’s the opposite of what Boris was accused of , apparently he wanted NO lockdown , so why would he plan this ?

The Kent variant grew here and landed up abroad and the virus mutates all the time . They are doing increased local testing and research, all they are saying they need some more answers . If the 4 who have died in one day have had both vaccines .... then we should start worrying .

If they chose not to have a vaccine then that’s a different matter.

Alonim · 14/05/2021 18:56

The fact that they haven't released that info tells you it's not good news.

If the people who died from B1617.2 were unvaccinated they would say so. It would boost take up.

They are panicking because people who’ve been vaccinated have died.

Seymour5 · 14/05/2021 18:57

@MagicSummer
@Coldwine75
I agree with both of you. Bloody ridiculous.

MmeLaraque · 14/05/2021 18:57
@Latelatelate I prefer to call Mr Johnson a serial killer, his inactions and actions having caused thousands of deaths by neglect.

I don't want a public inquiry in 2022, I want Mr Johnson to face criminal charges.
This. He knew what he was doing. He was told, and ignored *everything. Failed to attend the first 5 COBRA meetings about CV and fucked off on holiday. So people voted for more of his shit.

superspreader · 14/05/2021 18:58

and he is still fucking it upHmm

And you know this how?
Rosehip10 · 14/05/2021 19:01

@Myalternate The journalists were briefed he would be there, which was why some were surprised when he wasn't

Lostinacloud · 14/05/2021 19:02

@Unsure33

The government isn’t suffering personally and nor are all their mates making a fortune out of covid contracts. The super rich the world over are getting richer, why would they want that gravy train to come to an end anytime soon?

PomRuns · 14/05/2021 19:02

Pure speculation - not helpful.

IloveJKRowling · 14/05/2021 19:02

@Delatron

I don’t agree *@PrincessNutNuts* because it would provide evidence the vaccines weren’t working. Yet they have said there is no evidence for that. They have not released the info because they want to keep the fear levels high.
There is no robust scientific evidence the vaccines don't work against the Indian variant

AND

There is no robust scientific evidence they do.

This is the bit that is always missed. We don't know either way for sure yet. So why not be precautionary? Because it's possible that by the time we HAVE robust scientific evidence either way it will be too late to do anything much to alter the course of what's to come with this variant.

It seems to me a few more months of being careful and doing things like mask wearing in secondary schools (for example) might be worth it just until we get this data.

No they want to move on, this just isn’t correct.

They may have been elderly though.
Coldwine75 · 14/05/2021 19:05

People cant be going on holiday, they are illegal , oh wait our stupid crap government have allowed it,...

Please please delay the 17th May re opening, please.............

bumbleymummy · 14/05/2021 19:08

@IloveJKRowling because we can’t keep locking down every time a new variant crops up on the off chance it might be more dangerous.

He prefers to wait and watch the horror unfold before doing anything about it unfortunately.
