So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

Why should we be restricted because others choose to carry on acting as if nothing has happened, mixing, ignoring rules and refusing vaccines?

It’s way more complex than that. You are blaming multi-generational living, poverty, people in jobs where rates and transmission is high etc.

StealthPolarBear · 14/05/2021 18:19

@vera99

Just tried to get on the vax website.

Book a coronavirus vaccination
You are in a queue
Lots of people trying to book an appointment.

You are number 51 in the queue. Your estimated wait time is about 10 minutes.

You can continue to wait or try again later.

Your estimated wait time is always ten mins. I was no 2 and no 287. Ten mins both times. I suspect some hard coding :)
Saucery · 14/05/2021 18:19

@Iamsodonewith2020

Police knocking on doors this afternoon in Nottingham making everyone get tested. They stand there whilst you do it apparently. My student DS and his household said the police were taking it very very seriously. Worried now.
Bollocks are they. Testing is not compulsory. Stop spreading absolute lies.
blueangel19 · 14/05/2021 18:19

Why were people 'allowed' to mix over Christmas when numbers were higher?

We were not allowed to mix at Christmas

bellamountain · 14/05/2021 18:20

This variant has been known about for a while now yet flights were continually allowed in and out from India? What the actual hell.

Devlesko · 14/05/2021 18:20

The schools had to open though, and I say that as a parent who wasn't affected adversely with school closures.

I do think that localised strategies should be in place.
I'm near to Bolton and last time the areas in the NW with high cases (not just Bolton) travelled to other towns and it spread like wild fire.
Then the whole of the NW was pretty much closed down.

@EnoughnowIthink it's nice to read someone has a grasp of the issues at play. Blaming, finger pointing and making incorrect assumptions doesn't help the situation.
vera99 · 14/05/2021 18:21

If we have an in-country stockpile of 10 million doses why are we doing 24/7 ?

newnortherner111 · 14/05/2021 18:22

@Latelatelate I prefer to call Mr Johnson a serial killer, his inactions and actions having caused thousands of deaths by neglect.

I don't want a public inquiry in 2022, I want Mr Johnson to face criminal charges.

Coldwine75 · 14/05/2021 18:22

They need to hold next Monday and keep things closed for longer, but havent got the balls to do it !

User135644 · 14/05/2021 18:23

@warmup

Basically 'we have no idea what will happen with this variant, we don't have the data, we think it will spread more rapidly but let's just crack on regardless'
They're planting the seeds of doubt now over June. It's too late now for Monday.

Why are you blaming one person?? It isnt just him, its a whole load of people making decisions you know.

But they can afford flights back and forth to India?
PurpleDaisies · 14/05/2021 18:24

Enjoying the sign language guy who seems to be very subtly taking the piss out of Boris feeling sorry for people in the North. Or perhaps that's just wishful thinking...

I am hitting my head against a wall with this sort of comment.

@RhubarbTea he’s a highly qualified and respected BSL/English interpreter providing vital access for many deaf people who use BSL. This government has been spectacularly rubbish at providing information accessible to BSL users. You might not have noticed that the interpreter disappeared halfway through so if you were relying on them for information, you were totally screwed. It’s a travesty.

Making light of someone providing this service just isn’t on.

Roboticcarrot · 14/05/2021 18:24

@Mumblechum0

God, that take up rate is shocking. Community leaders need to get out fast and help. If people aren’t listening to the government then surely they will listen to their leaders.

Agree, but why haven't their leaders been doing that all along?

Lots have, you cannot force people.
Lostinacloud · 14/05/2021 18:26

This is just all so fucking predictable - I am absolutely fuming. Where is the opposition to this madness and obvious extension of public control?

Promise an irreversible roadmap out of lockdown (caveat with as long as conditions continue to be met). Pick a country that is in the middle of a peak, send mainstream media there to film desperate scenes of overloaded healthcare systems, start informing everyone its the new variant. Start registering that cases of the new variant have been found in the uk, start registering that this new variant seems to be more transmissible and we don’t know how the vaccines stand up to it. Start talking about hard decisions and how with a heavy heart the planned lifting of restrictions just can’t be met, even though cases countrywide are barely registering, many hospitals have zero covid patients and so far they can only state that 4 people out of the 1500 that die every single day have died with the Indian variant. Were those people vaccinated - of course they won’t tell us that. Were they very elderly?

It is inhumane to keep us all living this shitty half life forever. I DONT have covid just like 67 million other people minus a couple of thousand recorded each day and I’m not vulnerable to it either. Why do I and everybody else, vaccinated or not likely to be susceptible, have to continue living under these ridiculous restrictions?

LlamaDrama20 · 14/05/2021 18:26

@Coldwine75

Rubbish. As someone who lives in an area where cases are less than 10 per 100,000 the risk is very low and we need to get on with life.

What they NEED to do is get the vaccination rates up in those areas like Bolton and stop travel.
A girl DS knows is currently plastering her Instagram with photos of her holiday in Costa Rica - how? Just how? Angry

Don't be so bloody ridiculous.

Yep. The Indian government told us about it in March.

I posted this chart on here on April 16th about how it was taking over in India.

And this obvious skyward growth began on April 21st.

how are they moving everyones vaccine up quicker im due m 2nd in a months time do they let you know

Stovetopespresso · 14/05/2021 18:28

@bellmountain But they can afford flights back and forth to India?
some people can, or save for years or whatever to see family far away. doesn't mean it won't spread for the reasons @EnoughnowIthink identified, it's a problem which goes way back.

The opposition are more pro lockdown
sadperson16 · 14/05/2021 18:31

Just to give you a heads up ( especially the racists), the original Bolton Spike was caused by a stupid young white guy who was infected on holiday, refused to follow the rules and drank in numerous pubs...thereby infecting multiple people.

ilovebrie8 · 14/05/2021 18:32

Hallelujah common sense he’s keeping Monday easing!!l

Mrgrinch · 14/05/2021 18:32

I'm terrified.

If stage 4 on 21st June gets cancelled I won't want to live anymore. I've been severely depressed already and I finally had some hope. Silly me.
