So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

@Whichjab

Why are they shortening the break between jabs to eight weeks? Loads of research seems to say that 12 weeks is preferable? Have they found new data?

Whitty interesting there. Basically schools opening have caused the spike

The study that came out yesterday actually said T cells were lower with the long gap. It’s not clear cut. Getting as many people fully vaccinated is the best way to stop variants.
Westfacing · 14/05/2021 18:09

The Indian areas of London its also spreading as well. So address this at source.

Bromley is 'Indian' ?

Bluethrough · 14/05/2021 18:10

@Miasicarisatia

"Let's exercise caution and common sense" sounds like a good call, mind you it lays the blame with us if we do have 'bodies piled high'
Expecting people to exercise common hasn't worked in the past and it wont work now, most people haven't got any, which is why we have to have laws to control our stupidity. We all knew this variant was widespread in India weeks before he stopped immigration from India.

He never seems to learn, which perhaps why he is so popular? he is just like us.

We should leave the relaxing of restrictions as they are now, not easing further.

Police knocking on doors this afternoon in Nottingham making everyone get tested. They stand there whilst you do it apparently. My student DS and his household said the police were taking it very very seriously. Worried now.

Rosehip10 · 14/05/2021 18:10

Looks like Vallance stormed out pre-conference.

SamW98 · 14/05/2021 18:10

@Oblomov21

I don't understand why this isn't being addressed locally.

Bolton has very specific problems. The Indian areas of London its also spreading aswell. So address this at source.

Rather than on a uk level. This just spreads fear and business doesn't get up and running. Damaging our economy.

I do agree. The area I live was one had one of the highest rates in the country in December so we were placed in Tier 3 then 4 very quickly.

Now we have 5 cases per 100,000 and the vaccine take up is above 90%

Why should we be restricted because others choose to carry on acting as if nothing has happened, mixing, ignoring rules and refusing vaccines?

I've always thought the research saying 12 weeks was just to stop everyone moaning that it wasn't the original 3 weeks that they started with. They decided it was better to get as many people their first jab as soon as possible instead of sticking to 3 weeks.
vera99 · 14/05/2021 18:11

My understanding is that the 12 week gap is good for immunity, but this new shortening of the gap is down to trying to reduce transmission of the new variant as fully vaccinated people have been shown to lessen that.

IndiaMay · 14/05/2021 18:12

@Idontwantarow I feel your pain. Our 5th wedding date is post June 21st Sad

MrsMonet · 14/05/2021 18:13

Westfacing exactly. Bromley 'Indian'. Ridiculous.

vera99 · 14/05/2021 18:13

Just tried to get on the vax website.

Book a coronavirus vaccination
You are in a queue
Lots of people trying to book an appointment.

You are number 51 in the queue. Your estimated wait time is about 10 minutes.

You can continue to wait or try again later.

EmergencyHydrangea · 14/05/2021 18:13

@vera99

Wales has paused Monday's re-opening.
@vera99 where did you see this?
Vintagevixen · 14/05/2021 18:13

I really can't be getting worked up by variants.

I shall be dining inside come Monday, then seeing my mum and dad inside at the weekend.

We are all fully vaccinated so short of wrapping ourselves in cling film and never leaving the house again there's not much else we can do. Life is to be lived.

PrincessNutNuts · 14/05/2021 18:14

@Rosehip10

Looks like Vallance stormed out pre-conference.

I wondered about that.

The Prime Minister smirking throughout struck an odd note for me.

And Whitty had his red cheek of rage.

The scientists can only advise.

The Prime Minister decides.

It's just a shame ours doesn't learn and makes the same mistakes over and over again.

Latelatelate · 14/05/2021 18:14

Didn’t really need that spelling out did we?! 🙄

Latelatelate · 14/05/2021 18:15

He’s a disgrace.

MakkaPakkasSpongyThing · 14/05/2021 18:15

There has been a major bust up! Where is Vallance? Whitty is not happy!

Rainbowsandstorms · 14/05/2021 18:15

Which area of Nottingham was this please? Has it now been confirmed that the Indian variant is in Nottingham?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 14/05/2021 18:16

Whatever they are paying Whitty to tolerate this it's not enough.

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 18:16

Some people never let go Hmm

Schools can’t stay shut forever we’re way beyond that now.

IndigoC · 14/05/2021 18:16

Definitely odd for Boris to only have one offsider.

vera99 · 14/05/2021 18:17

Wales misheard it I think. Confused

APinchOfLOL · 14/05/2021 18:17

Bolton is a mess. I have a relative who followed all the rules but then had to go there to pick something up and took the train. They then tested positive and another family member followed suit a few days later.

They should set up stations all over Bolton and encourage people to walk in and get vaccinated. We are on the brink of unlocking and getting back to normal and their collective idiocy is putting it in jeopardy.

Puppylucky · 14/05/2021 18:18

Wales have not paused reopening BTW
