30s to 40s will they change the guidelines.

I read on here a few weeks ago that like the under 30s will be given the opportunity to have an alternative vaccine to AZ, they may consider the same guidelines for the 30s to 40s category.
Has there been any updates on that or are they still happy to offer the 30s to 40s the AZ?

Still waiting for the decision. There’s a theory they are holding off announcing until next week so that as many 40+ get vaccinated beforehand, so they don’t get scared off.

RedcurrantPuff · 01/05/2021 10:32

I think they will change it. Call me cynical but I reckon that is why they are racing through the younger groups now to use up supplies and to get as many people done as possible before they have to give them Pfizer or Moderna.

Anecdotal I know but I’ve known a few people in their 40s get first jab this week and get Pfizer

I feel like this is the case. We are 39 and booked in tomorrow, but I am considering cancelling and waiting... or going and seeing if we get offered Pfizer before making a decision.
QueenPaw · 01/05/2021 10:34

A fair few have already had it so I don't know. In 36 and had my second dose today

Frazzled2207 · 01/05/2021 10:36

They might but unless novavax gets signed off imminently it will be problematic as they have loads of Az doses to give and not many Moderna/Pfizer

TakeYourFinalPosition · 01/05/2021 10:37

I’m 30 and had a first dose of AZ in February. Had a bad reaction, and am now pregnant, so need the second dose to be Pfizer... it was a complete battle to get that approved, and now they can’t find me an injection, so I suspect they’ll be a wait if they change the guidance to under 40s.

That said, most of my friends are early 30s, were all vaccinated, all had AZ and I’m the only person who had a reaction.

vaxmeup · 01/05/2021 11:01

Agree with others who've said that they are delaying the announcement until most of the over 40s have been vaccinated over the next couple of weeks or so.

If they've been stockpiling the Pfizer/Moderna for the under 30s then I wonder if they will use those for 30-39 instead of delaying the the programme. Hopefully Novavax will be available at the start of June for the under 30s. It looks like J&J may have similar issues with clotting so that's not going to be an alternative for anyone who can't have AZ.

I get the argument that while cases are low then the risks of AZ may outweigh the benefits for under 30s but as we open up more in May and June then cases will surely increase and there is the danger of younger people transmitting vaccine resistant variants.

curious where first dose pfizer was being given out? Was this London as i haven't heard of anywhere in London so far
RedcurrantPuff · 01/05/2021 11:08

@user34254356 outside Glasgow.

Totallydefeated · 01/05/2021 11:08

Where I am at least, there’s currently no Pfizer or Modena. I can’t have AZ due to clotting issues, and have to wait till one of the others becomes available. I’m in the 45-50 bracket, so should have been jabbed a couple of weeks ago.

Nobody seems to have any idea when Pfizer or Moderna will be available and there’s no mechanism to let me know - I just have to watch the news and then hurtle up to the big vacc hub when I hear they may have some and hope they still have any left/I’ve not had a wasted trip 🙄

Frazzled2207 · 01/05/2021 11:09

I’d hazard a guess they will wait until novavax and/or j&j approved. Hopefully any day now for novavax. Not so sure about j&j.

Totallydefeated · 01/05/2021 11:09

user I’m on London. Not a sniff of anything other than AZ for weeks now.

nordica · 01/05/2021 11:27

I read an interesting Twitter thread from someone who has been keeping track of supply and how the rollout is going in terms of meeting the government's July target for all adults. His calculations show the UK has been stockpiling Pfizer the past couple of weeks - Pfizer supplies are arriving as usual but not being administered, so the theory is they are holding off in case of the JCVI changes the guidelines.

The good news is that the July target would be met based on current supply even if the under 40s can't have AZ. The supply issues have been mostly related to AZ (as the order from India hasn't arrived). More Moderna arriving in June as well.

Thanks, yes i have friends in Scotland who also have received Pfizer as the first jab. Seems it's not so common in London for the moment.

Yes, seems they are trying to use up AZ supplies up before the potential change in recommendation for under 40s.

Matt Hancock also was given AZ. Think there are a few centres doing Moderna though.

The below seems to suggest though that we have been stockpiling Pfizer for a while. I suspect the floodgates will open in a week or two.

I'm 37 so no text yet but I won't be rushing to book if I do get one. I want to wait a bit and see if they change the guidance.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/05/2021 12:12

I hope so. I'm 30 and won't be having AZ. If I was 40 I might do but I don't see that there's really much medical difference between 29 and 30.

Quartz2208 · 01/05/2021 12:13

Some places are definitely currently doing Moderna DH - 44 got it on Monday and I am hoping to get it when I go. Weirdly the 2 that I know of are AFC Wimbledon vaccination centre and Elland Road so two football places!

@Totallydefeated how close to AFC Wimbledon are you for moderna?

kowari · 01/05/2021 12:19

I agree. A 29 year old could easily be at higher risk of covid than someone in their thirties (changing the balance of risk) due to general health or lifestyle, without it putting them in group 6. I understand healthy people in their thirties being worried if the vaccine is deemed too risky for someone just a bit younger.

Does this published yesterday suggest they aren't changing it?

BlackLambAndGreyFalcoln · 01/05/2021 12:24

I really, really, really hope that they don't delay the next roll out to the under 3l40s by a few weeks! I'm 3 months off the eligibility date and desperate for a vaccination- would very happily have AZ!

Totallydefeated · 01/05/2021 12:27

Ooh @Quartz22208, I'm in Fulham, so that's totally doable! Thanks!!

RedcurrantPuff · 01/05/2021 12:47

My parents (70s) and sister (HCP) got Pfizer in Glasgow but that was Jan/Feb. Since then all I heard about til this week was AZ for first doses @user34254356

Quartz2208 · 01/05/2021 12:53

@Totallydefeated yes we are here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4229701-Moderna-AFC-Wimbledon

And so far it has all been moderna. Its worth maybe calling them or trying it out if appointments because yes if you are in Fulham that is not that difficult to get to.

CynsterBitch · 01/05/2021 13:35

Has anyone gone to Madjeski Stadium in Reading, I’ve heard they have Moderna, but wasn’t sure how likely it would be
