30s to 40s will they change the guidelines.

I read on here a few weeks ago that like the under 30s will be given the opportunity to have an alternative vaccine to AZ, they may consider the same guidelines for the 30s to 40s category.
Has there been any updates on that or are they still happy to offer the 30s to 40s the AZ?

@CynsterBitch

Has anyone gone to Madjeski Stadium in Reading, I’ve heard they have Moderna, but wasn’t sure how likely it would be
My DB had Moderna at the Madjeski last week. Not sure what they are doing now though. His DW is now able to book and will be going there too. I'll try and find out.
Quartz2208 · 01/05/2021 13:49

What is it with football stadium at Moderna so far Elland Road Majeski and AFC WImbledon!

CynsterBitch · 01/05/2021 13:54

@Hettylala

Thank you, that sounds promising. I don’t qualify yet, but I’m trying to keep an eye on it for when I do qualify

minniemomo · 01/05/2021 14:00

My 22 year old had AZ, I'm really not convinced that they are going to change for over 30's at this point

If your 22 year old has already been vaccinated them presumably they are either in group 6 and clinically vulnerable, or vulnerable due to their job in health care.

In that case the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks. That's not necessarily the case for a healthy 32 year old especially when covid rates are as low as they are at the moment.

Stevenage hub has been givng out Moderna for the last few weeks (if this is of use to anyone.)

It was so weird when I went in :literally everyone coming in was asking what the jab was. They all looked so relieved when they were told it was the Moderna. I asked too Blush But I hasten to add I wouldn't have refused if it was AZ!

AZ has had a PR nightmare I think...

Torvean · 01/05/2021 14:51

My brothers in his early 40s. Got his first vacc this week and it was Moderna.

CynsterBitch · 01/05/2021 14:54

@Amrapaali
Tbf I’m the same, I’ll absolutely take what I’m given, but I’d prefer it not to be AZ. I’ve never won the lottery or been hit by a car, and I don’t think I’d get the clot jackpot either, but I know it would play on my mind for a good few weeks if I got AZ

I’ve helped out at a vaccination centre. As it happens it has always been Pfizer when I’ve been there. But the HCPs are always grateful when it’s a “Pfizer day” because when they are doing Az they get disappointed looks, more questions and some refusals. It just takes far more time and less people get jabbed. Sigh.
Clotsaway · 01/05/2021 15:43

I see where you're coming from. It's hard for both side when AZ is on the list of jabs to be given out.

I'm late 30s and have family history of blood clots and haven't been many times suspected of blood clots and put on blood thinners. Also am a bit of an enigma because drs can figure out what causes me to bruise so easily, and I'm talking about bruises the size of my fist and bigger coming out of nowhere. For me personally AZ is a big no no from that perspective.

Seen a couple of articles today about new clotting cases in younger people and wondering if the guidance will change next week. I'm healthy and turning 30 at the end of the month. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable if I were offered it just after that and it were AZ. I also frequently get headaches that can't be shifted with painkillers so the guidance on what to look out for wouldn't really work.

It makes me feel quite conflicted because I've had every vaccine going up to now (including when HPV was newly rolled out when I was a teenager). And my parents (60s/70s) seemed a bit surprised when I said I was a bit concerned. But I just can't shake it.

MaddieElla · 02/05/2021 09:48

I don't suppose anyone knows which vaccine they are offering at Lincolnshire Showground?

I'd take any, but I would like to know. It doesn't say when you book an appointment so I'm not sure how people know which they're getting.

Fron what I know I don't think it says what vaccine you get while booking. Probably because they are sending out vaccines where needed and cant say who will get what, pot luck really.

@Osirus

Still waiting for the decision. There’s a theory they are holding off announcing until next week so that as many 40+ get vaccinated beforehand, so they don’t get scared off.
I don’t get why they need to announce this. Couldnt they just supply alternatives to be used, rather than have Boris up on a podium shouting?

I’d be interested to know though that these people going on about what vaccine they are wanting, if they have the flu jab in the past have they posted on forums asking what they are getting, or do they even know the different makes of it?

kowari · 02/05/2021 18:00

I don't have the flu jab.

nordica · 02/05/2021 18:07

The flu jab is not associated with blood clots in the brain so that's not particularly relevant...

Suranjeep · 02/05/2021 18:13

Yes it is because people have been asking this before the blood clot stuff come out as they believed one was “better” than the other.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/05/2021 18:18

@Suranjeep I don't have the flu jab.

Clotsaway · 03/05/2021 04:26

That's a bit unfair! Flu jabs don't tend to have deadly side effects hence why it's never been raised. Also the trials each new vaccine(not flu) usually goes through is a very long process of trial testing lasting up to 10 years and then it can be deemed safe if all goes well.

I'm personally very thankful we even have a vaccine, however, if there is a side effect that can cause long lasting problems or even death, its only fair that people approach it with caution and are allowed to air the fears.

Im 39. I turn 40 on July 1 but had my text the other day inviting me for vaccine. I am holding out for an announcement but I fear it may come too late for me and I will be 40 before they decide

Raindancer411 · 03/05/2021 05:57

I am 39, 40 in a few months and had my text. I haven't booked yet as I don't want the AZ as I am breastfeeding. I would maybe take pifzer if offered as I know there was a small trial in Israel on breastfeeding mums with that one.

Jakie7700 · 03/05/2021 10:02

They are certainly trying to get at many under 40s vaccinated as possible before changing guidance. I am in my 30s had my AZ 6 weeks ago recieved a call from doctors last week to say come in today for 2nd jab when I questioned why the 2nd one was being giving early as all guidelines state no earlier than 8 weeks and ideally 11-12 weeks as AZ jab is more effient the with those gaps I was told by the nurse yes we know but we are trying to use up as many of the supply of AZ Before guidance is changed again. So obviously I declined my 2nd vaccine so early!

Clotsaway · 04/05/2021 18:08

The decision has already been made, and was updated yesterday.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-and-blood-clotting/covid-19-vaccination-and-blood-clotting

Over 30s should take any vaccine offered to them, no change in policy

Imfedupwithallofthis · 05/05/2021 07:40

"If you are a healthy person over 30 to 50 years of age
The MHRA and the JCVI advises that all adults in this age group (including health and social care workers) should still receive any of the available COVID-19 vaccines.

The benefits of vaccination in protecting you against the serious consequences of COVID-19 outweigh any risk of this rare condition. You should also complete your course with the same vaccine you had for the first dose."
