Been tested and it’s not covid. It’s a horrible cold and sore throat, but it’s making me cough too. People keep staring at me! I feel really self conscious 🙁 my 2 year old has it too.

I’ve lost my voice with it too

Sorry you're unwell OP.

Was it a lateral flow test? They're notoriously inaccurate and between 30-50% give false negatives.

I think, with symptoms, you need a PCR.

I hope you feel better soon, whatever it is Flowers

Yes me! I’ve had some shockers of colds this year, it’s been a much worse winter than usual Confused I had covid in December & since then, 5 really heavy colds (& one prior to covid). Full on snot, sneezing, sandpaper throat, cough, feeling rough .. I’ve had 2 days off work this week feeling shite.

I’ve tested for covid with PCR tests every time, sometimes more than once & all been negative. My positive covid test was on much milder symptoms. These colds have been far worse Confused .. sometimes I wonder if covid has knocked my immune system. But I also have young kids in two different nurseries sooo it’s probably just that 😩🙈

XenoBitch · 29/04/2021 16:32

I actually miss having a stinking cold. Not had one in ages. I feel my immune system needs something to do.

RedcurrantPuff · 29/04/2021 16:34

I did a couple of weeks ago x passed reasonably quickly

ZeroDawn · 29/04/2021 16:35

Yes. Absolute stonker. Lost my voice as well. Throat is better now but still have a tickly productive cough and feel very "off". I'm a month down the line now. Had a PCR a few days after first symptoms and then another at the GP's request 2 weeks ago. Both negative.

PurpleDaisies · 29/04/2021 16:36

Same. Runny nose plus a face mask isn’t fun. My hay fever is also going nuts. Happy times.

Hope you feel better soon. Flowers

Yes I’ve got it! And even worse I can’t take anything for it because I’m pregnant 😫 my 2yo has it too, I’m nearly better but DC still has the cough and I bet it lingers ages!

Giggorata · 29/04/2021 16:45

Someone in the Crucible audience has got a shocking cough. I know they've all been tested and whatnot, to be allowed in, but it is actually bothering me a bit. I wouldn't have given it a thought pre Covid.

Onedaysomedaynowadays · 29/04/2021 20:17

Yes! We all have it here. I blame the toddler.
I've had 4 PCR tests in the last fortnight (for work, I'm not neurotic!), all negative

Thisyearisshit · 29/04/2021 21:39

Me and my 3 year old have it aswell!! Ergh it’s awful

Fuckitaaaallllll · 29/04/2021 21:46

I have it and it's driving me mad. It feels a bit like laryngitis, I cough lots if I speak or breathe too hard and am really aware of it. My kids have awful coughs and runny noses. We had our negative result through today which was a relief as I have my vaccination tomorrow!

gingerbiscuit19 · 29/04/2021 22:00

Yep!! Feel like I'm coming out the other end of it but we've been poorly for about a month. A bad cough/cold and just genuinely not very well

MyBabyBoyBlue · 29/04/2021 22:22

Yep! My 3 yo brought it home from nursery, was poorly with it for about 5 days and then gave it to me. The cough really lingers and I lost my voice with it too. We both tested negative for covid (proper testing).

Tealightsandd · 29/04/2021 23:15

The links I provided above refer to the PCR tests. They too can give false negatives - and it may be the case (not yet known, I don't think) that certain variants might cause more false negatives than others.

So... perhaps a cold, but equally possibly Covid.

Totalbeach · 29/04/2021 23:31

In autumn we all got sick with a cough, fever, aches etc and all tested negative.

ContadoraExplorer · 29/04/2021 23:33

Yep, had it the other week. Pretty much only coughed when I lay down but lost my voice for about three days, put a lot of strain on my vocal chords trying to get words out. I blame DD picking it up at nursery as DH was fine and we both WFH so we see very few people. I feel much better now although still the occasional cough.

QueenPaw · 29/04/2021 23:35

No cough but I have felt off the past couple of days. Worse at night and I'm under a blanket shivering again. Bit of a sore throat but mostly just freezing cold and shivery

whatswithtodaytoday · 29/04/2021 23:54

Yes, and I also have a two year old in nursery! I did a lateral flow test by chance the day before I started coughing, and we've both tested negative on PCR so I'm pretty sure it's not Covid. Plus it's really just a heavy cold and very annoying cough - no fever, only a slight headache at the beginning, not really fatigued. Very different to my friend's recent experience with actual Covid.

I'm in my third week now and considering calling the GP just to check if they think antibiotics or something would help, as it's driving me mad.

TunMahla · 30/04/2021 01:01

We have it too, picked up from nursery as well. DS tested negative.

amusedtodeath1 · 30/04/2021 01:28

This is reassuring, I have something but negative for Covid. It's been lingering for weeks now and I'm desperate to be back to normal. I was beginning to wonder if there was something to be worried about.

HSHorror · 30/04/2021 09:38

There are lots of coughs round here too.
Please can peiple not have coughing toddlers right in the middle.of scrum of pick up and drip off.
Even if it's not covid i dont want it!!

Londonmummy00 · 30/04/2021 09:49

Hello,
This is exactly what my daughter and I have. She’s 5 and picked up something from an easter camp, a close staff member camp in one day with no voice AT ALL blaming it on hayfever (staff members do regular LF tests there so I wasn’t too concerned) Then we both came down with it. 3 weeks on, covid negative tests, after amoxicillin and inhalers i’m still having bad chills at night and a more or less constant dry cough. I did have a mucus cough (green sorry tmi) but that’s now clear thanks to the antibiotics. My child is ok in herself but coughing still , some days more than others. GP prescribed a steroid nasal spray for me for post nasal drip and antihistamine plus decongestant. Neither have helped.
