Has anyone got this other cold/cough going around?

Been tested and it’s not covid. It’s a horrible cold and sore throat, but it’s making me cough too. People keep staring at me! I feel really self conscious 🙁 my 2 year old has it too.

To add, very sore throats and loss of voice. Voice still hoarse for me almost a month on. GP initially thought it was strep throat so I’ve actually been on 2 sets of antibiotics.

So relieved to read this thread, although sorry everyone is suffering! Had my first vaccine dose on 1st April. Two days before, I felt the pollen start to move like a bolt from the blue, so since then have had hay fever and a stinking cold which is now driving me mad. I sneeze at a painfully frequent rate, nose runs like a tap, very dry cough, the sorest eyes ever, shattered and sleeping a lot, achey neck, and now my nostrils feel bruised and yesterday I got the headache from hell over my right ear. I'm a migraine sufferer but this was worse, which is saying a lot. Just feels endless and depressing

Obviously, given that I had the jab right near the start I've had my concerns. Night before last I dreamed I was picked along with a woman (I'm male) to have these lethal injections, and could literally feel the life draining out of me. It was terrifying and when I woke up I thought it was real for a while, couldn't shake the fear! But seems my unconscious is just representing some underlying doubts and fears I've been blocking out. Went to bed quite early tonight but woke up around 1 and my headache has abated which is great, and I don't feel so exhausted.

Such a weird time, I'm sure I've been really unlucky and had hay fever (always heavy for me in spring time), vaccine after effects and a nasty cold all at the same time. I feel for anyone in similar straits at the moment, so much vaccine anxiety around Flowers

Yes i have it and so does DD now. I had covid in march and I feel much worse with this

JennyBond · 02/05/2021 06:09

Article in the times yesterday about the common cold being rampant at the moment, fuelled by schools and nurseries unsurprisingly.

sylbunny · 02/05/2021 06:26

3 weeks I've had it! I just can't shift the last of the cough / sore throat

Thing is for me with all the cleaning pre schools and schools have to do it is no wonder there are more colds about because everything is so sterile.
niceupthedance · 02/05/2021 07:00

Hoarse voice is a covid symptom on the Zoe app. Surely just a cold though

MuddySocks · 02/05/2021 07:07

@XenoBitch

I actually miss having a stinking cold. Not had one in ages. I feel my immune system needs something to do.

Whaaaaat

Colds can you make you feel absolutely fucking shite

SaskiaRembrandt · 02/05/2021 07:24

I've got it it, and hay fever too. Much fun. I've had two negative PCR tests so definitely a cold.

TheVolturi · 02/05/2021 07:36

My dc were actually off school the last two days with this. We had to go and get tested, negative thankfully. Absolutely horrible heavy cold with coughs and sore throat, lots of snot and headache. And now, it's my turn 🙄.

The children at nursery all have colds and streaming noses. We are still taking same measures inside so guessing people are just out and about and mixing more. Did read somewhere (Can’t remember where) that cold virus will outcompete the Covid virus for access to cells so maybe another reason Covid levels are dropping?

Spectrumofhumanlife · 02/05/2021 08:03

We’ve all got a cough/cold. Probably not the same as yours though, all other cold viruses are still in circulation so it could be one of many.
We’ve all been tested (PCR before I’m given a lecture on the inaccuracy of LF Wink) and all negative.

Blakey24 · 02/05/2021 08:32

Yes I did recently. Knocked me off my feet for a week. It doesn’t help that I have pre existing sinus issues so when I have a cold my sinuses are ten times worse. Took me 10 days to shake it off fully. I assume because I hadn’t had a cold in so long. Hope you feel better soon!

Bubalie · 02/05/2021 08:56

My DS had a sore throat and runny nose last week and gotten over it in couple of day. Me however... really sore throat, cough, blocked nose and generally feeling meh. First time and ages I had to take a day off work. Negative PCR but may request another one just to be on a safe side. Although I’m almost certain it’s just a common cold brought back home from school. Hope everyone is feeling better Flowers

MrBeagles · 02/05/2021 21:26

Me and my three year old started with it three weeks ago.

Exhaustion, runny/blocked nose, horrendously sore throat and lost voice.

I did LFT most days. No temp though and could still taste and smell ~~between blowing my nose~~

I thought covid so SI but LFT all negative. It's been grotty.

Coming out the other side now though and feel human again.

Get well soon everyone

Lovestonap · 03/05/2021 03:40

Yes my 8 year old has it (or of course, one like it) lost voice, sore throat, cough, low grade fever. She had a PCR test today and is negative. I was really impressed with a 12 hour turn around for the test results!

Jocasta2018 · 03/05/2021 05:18

I lost my voice completely back in June 2020, no cough though, couldn't talk on the phone.
I was locked down alone, no kids, working from home, only going to the supermarket & for exercise at very quite times (6am)...
I had 3 PCR tests in a fortnight which all came back negative.
God knows what it was !

user1486723488 · 03/05/2021 05:45

Have you been tested for either flu A or B? Or anything other than covid? Normally, doctors test to confirm a diagnosis. If it isn't covid, what else have you been tested for?

SquigglePigs · 03/05/2021 06:21

Yes, I've had it for nearly 2 weeks now. Weds-Sat this week have been the worst. Feel like I'm just starting to come out of the other side now. I have had a horrendous headache for the last five days too. Started with our two yr old. She's still coughing but otherwise better.

Useruseruserusee · 03/05/2021 07:58

I teach in Early Years, there have been many viruses going round since we reopened fully, but thankfully not Covid yet. I’ve got a cold at the moment, I’ve had a PCR test so I know it isn’t Covid.

polkadotpixie · 03/05/2021 08:28

My DH and DS both had a terrible cold a few weeks ago...fever, snotty, hacking cough etc. DS bounced back quickly but DH was poorly enough to take time off and go to bed which never happens! He was ill for about 10 days

I didn't get it despite sharing a bed with them both and I've been vaccinated so I'd have sworn it was COVID but both tested negative on both lateral flow and PCR tests so must just have been a nasty cold

baroqueandblue · 03/05/2021 13:03

Just figured out that this is an "I'm in the testing like shaking hands club" thread. Well, I might've had my first vaccination round but I draw the line at toeing the (largely failed) stupid test n track line charade 🙄

What do you mean? I agree it’s a farce. But if my children have a cough, they’re not allowed back into school or nursery without a negative test. So we don’t have any choice but to test them unless we isolate for 10 days every time one of them gets a cough (we’d never leave the fucking house).
