Wales - second home

I am completely confused. When can we travel to wales and stay there. I’m in England. The announcement today all related to travel and staying in England and international travel in May. There doesn’t seem to be anything about the UK. I have combed the internet and I keep reading contradictory announcements. Wales online and bbc both have days old articles saying travel from England permitted in Wales from 12 but does that include overnight stay. I have a second home in wales and normally stay there a week out of every four - for the last 25 years. Can anyone help me make sense of this!

I oppose second homes and agree they are a blight ... but I once lived in N.Wales full time, no other home, children learned Welsh, DH ran a business, I worked ... still on the end of a lot of anti-English xenophobia.

@derbygirl24

I know someone who got at least £10,000 in government grants over lockdowns for their second home as it was classed as a business...
As a genuine self employed person who only got a paltry grant (to do well out of it you basically needed high earning tax returns for three consecutive years, finishing two years ago) I find this very upsetting

Definitely the 12th, booked a hotel the other day and their self catering units were 12th for English, already open for Welsh. We can actually see Wales from our bedroom so it's a bit ridiculous we can't nip to Homebase, instead have to go 20 miles further

@Frazzled2207 me too.

I felt very angry as its a side ‘business’ and both partners work. And ultimately its a massive asset for them that’s the cherry on the cake as their main property is worth over a million. I was really shocked!

Imo you should have only claimed if your self employed nature was your main income. Could be fraudulent, but wouldn’t surprise me if actually above board

@SirVixofVixHall

I live in an area slowly being destroyed by second home owners, many of whom were breaking the rules last year. Along with other locals I have had enough and I will happily report anyone I know of coming here early and staying overnight . Second homes are in Wales are an absolute blight, anyone who cared about our villages at all would not buy one. Many of the owners showed how little they care for the community by sneaking in when they could. We are just a nice location, there is no respect whatsoever.
This!
