Green light for a holiday in England on 12th April

MrsMackesy · 05/04/2021 18:26

With the second stage of lockdown easing on 12th April, self-catering holidays for members of the same household are allowed in England. If you are going on the 12th, where are you going and how are you feeling about it? Are you setting off just after midnight, planning to arrive at your accommodation just after midnight or going at the 'normal' time?

@Foxymoxy68 Wales have said you can go from the 12th... (taken from BBC via ByVickySmith on Instagram)

@AnyFucker Enjoy Flowers Easter Smile

We’re off to a holiday cottage near my parents on the 12th for 4 nights - they live 3 hours away so be great to have walks and picnics and proper catch up in the garden. My DC aren’t back to school until 19th luckily

ArosGartref · 05/04/2021 19:38

Shwmae!

The expectation is that travel restrictions between Wales & England will be lifted on the 12th. So you can come to Wales with the Welsh Government's blessing if that's important to you.

Although when I looked everywhere was booked or costs a fortune.

OverTheRainbow88 · 05/04/2021 19:41

Yup going to Dorset on the 12th for 9 days!!!! Already packed!

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 19:44

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

No, we are waiting until next year before holidays and travel. I don’t see any enjoyment currently with cases still ongoing and lots not wearing masks or social distancing. Would rather save the money and go when things are better. Plus we don’t like self catering as not a holiday if you have to cook and wash up etc.
This is how I feel really. I have a week off coming up but I'm staying put except maybe day trips to relatives. I want to go out to restaurants etc on holiday. I have to wear a mask all day at work and I would like to holiday without too.
EcoCustard · 05/04/2021 19:45

We had a booking for DH’s birthday in Northumberland for end of April was so looking forward to it. Sadly the house has had some building work going on since closing last year (big house for larger gatherings) and is behind schedule. Booking now cancelled and no where else suitable is available. I could honestly cry. It’s been booked since late 2019.

AnyFucker · 05/04/2021 19:46

Thanks @MercyBooth. It’s been a long time coming and much needed Easter Smile

Pootle40 · 05/04/2021 19:49

Meanwhile in Scotland, our kids go back on the 12th in this local authority so can't go to England on holiday and Scotland not opening any hospitality until 26th. Ridiculous

daisyjgrey · 05/04/2021 19:54

@VeryScary

I live in Cornwall and I’m dreading it!
I live in Devon, near the Cornwall border. I am too!
Littlepoppet1 · 05/04/2021 19:58

So pleased to read that @RozTheSchnoz

I am going to my 2nd home the minute my shopping has been delivered at 8am on 12th April.

No kids of school age and week booked off work in anticipation. Halle-fucking-lujah.

This is how I feel. It's been a very tough year.

Isolated cottage so no neighbours to worry or upset
Supporting the owner who has lost so much income
Shopping delivered safely and to support a local business
Filling up the tank before we go to avoid a garage stop
Nobody in before us so highly unlikely to be any virus hanging about
Tested twice weekly so as confident as we can be that we are virus free
Change of four walls
Change of scenery
Change of routine
Sea air!!!
Staying in the cottage and garden and timing visits down to the shoreline and walks to avoid any crowds
Avoiding local shops, beer gardens and outdoor restaurants unless very, very quiet and to leave space for locals.

We like to support local businesses usually but at the moment feel that more thought for viral spread and for locals is needed.

Quietly and cautiously - but deeply - excited.

So sorry to hear this. I hope you soon have something else to look forward to. I think there will be some cancellations once international travel opens up. People who prefer to go abroad have booked staycations as a fallback. We usually staycation and at the moment can't find anything suitable for the rest of the year.

@MrsMackesy we will be taking similar precautions too. It is our place so no mixing. Face/hands/space/fresh air for the minimal interactions we will be doing locally. Big wide skies. Quiet countryside (it’s not Devon/Cornwall etc). When I visit there I often do not see one other person and that is why I love it so. My job involves intense interaction with the general public at significant risk to my physical and mental health... this I have been doing all the way through this last year and I am exhausted

Slowly. And surely. Praying we can continue through this roadmap.

Abraxan · 05/04/2021 20:16

@Sparklingbrook

Are people going to take their DC out of school for this at the first opportunity?

Isn't everywhere going to be absolutely packed/fully booked? It's still going to be social distancing/masks/rules just in a different place. Unless in the middle of nowhere with no intention of going out, and only eating outdoors if you do.

Some might but also next week is still half term in some areas. At least two of my colleagues are going away. In England. For a few days self catering next week. They already had them booked from last year.

It sounds idyllic - where do I sign up?!

I understand the exhaustion and the mental and physical load. The precautions seem a small price to pay to get away. We're vaccinated too - well, first dose so far - so that helps with the hope.

The week of 12th April is still our Easter holidays, I booked an apartment near two theme parks for a few nights when it looked like theme parks would be opening on 12th so we are doing this from 13th as we have booked our home theme park for opening day on 12th. I am hugely excited and not at all concerned. We would normally have a week at a Haven over Easter but I didn't fancy it with all the facilities closed. The theme parks were well run last summer, distancing, sanitiser and lower numbers than in normal times so I am expecting to feel just as safe again this time. We then have several theme prk weekends booked through April and May and a week away in May half term as well. I just want to get back to normal, we have spent too long at home!

Schools don't go back here until 19th, we've four nights booked from 12 April, pure luck as it was rearranged from a Christmas break when we were Tier 3. 30 mins from home, in a beautiful area in the same county. Local Italian and pubs are doing takeaways and beer garden meals, depending on the weather. We'll be cycling and fishing. The suitcases came down from the attic yesterday, needed a good dust! We've both been vaccinated.

andadietcoke · 05/04/2021 21:08

I'm sure Mark Drakeford has said travel in and out of Wales from the 12th April.

fudgefox · 05/04/2021 21:18

I’ll be in school teaching on April 12th. Our Easter holiday has been rubbish.
