Green light for a holiday in England on 12th April

With the second stage of lockdown easing on 12th April, self-catering holidays for members of the same household are allowed in England. If you are going on the 12th, where are you going and how are you feeling about it? Are you setting off just after midnight, planning to arrive at your accommodation just after midnight or going at the 'normal' time?

We have booked just over a week away in our caravan on 13th April, we are going to Yorkshire, we have had a caravan for years and this will be the first time we have used the caravan shower, we usually use the site ones but they will be shut, hope it works ok Grin Really looking forward to it and we will also see DS who lives about 20 miles from the caravan site

Eyevorbig0ne · 05/04/2021 21:24

Well seeing as my daughter returns to school on 13 April and our 2nd April break was kiboshed by our dictators, our next prospect of a break isn't until mid August... If it doesn't get cancelled Again. If you can go 12th April just do it

userxx · 05/04/2021 21:26

Was anything mentioned about holidays abroad?

Don't mention the A word. We are just being extremely grateful for what we can get closer to home on this thread Wink

I was looking last night and you can book four nights at Haven still in a static caravan sleeping 6 for under £400.

My kids are still off next week so it was very tempting. I was surprised there was still spaces tbh. If your self catering in a fully equipped heated caravan what's to be scared of?

andadietcoke · 05/04/2021 21:31

@andadietcoke

I'm sure Mark Drakeford has said travel in and out of Wales from the 12th April.
Ignore that. Boris specifically said England didn't he? Angry
MrsMackesy · 05/04/2021 21:37

Travel in and out of Wales will be allowed from 12 April, but I don't know if that includes for holidays in Wales? Hopefully someone will come along with the answer.

@MrsMackesy Fair enough, I'm quite happy to forfeit my holiday and stay at home, just trying to work out if I'm going to lose money in the process 🙈

TristantheTyrannosaurus · 05/04/2021 21:41

Yay! Caravan booked for Cumbria. Let's get moving again.

Screwcorona · 05/04/2021 21:42

I live in cornwall and also will be hiding in my back garden (obviously barr early morning supermarket trips) planning on avoiding people but being kind to any I come across, a lot of locals are a bit pitchfork wielding though so not sure tourists are going to feel very welcome

I didn't tune in for the A bit because we're not planning on it this year. Have a look at the BBC news website? Fingers crossed you won't lose out.

I do feel for people that live in the popular tourist places. Having a sudden influx of people from other areas increasing the population all excited about being somewhere different, (but hopefully still abiding by the guidelines).

Same here in my local area. I might even put my pitchfork down if they're well-behaved.

Absolutely. We really suffered here last year and it's not been great these last two weekends - mixed behaviour from day visitors. You learn to avoid the honey pots and time your own outings, even to the postbox. Living in a tourist area, you see the good, the bad and the ugly, and I think it makes you a better visitor when you go elsewhere.

I'm going to my place in Cornwall. We'll arrive on 11th to do our 'essential maintenance' that will take until midnight, at which point we're allowed to go to bed. Did the same back in July.

Peasinthefreezer · 05/04/2021 22:02

Booked a cottage in the Sussex countryside from 12th. Can’t wait to escape London - plenty of country walks and fresh air!

Fingers crossed for you for August. I think this will be it for us until October or even next year unfortunately.

We have booked a cottage in Yorkshire - plan to visit 3 universities as DD needs to decide by June and has never seen a university...

Abracadabra12345 · 05/04/2021 22:10

I’m going to a seaside town not too far away in a self- contained holiday let and cannot wait to walk beside an ocean and along cliff walks. It’s not a tourist destination.

My husband’s friend suddenly died, aged 76. He was a Londoner and lived life to the full, going out, meeting friends like my husband, making the most of his city. He died of natural causes, nothing to do with Covid. He followed Covid rules but didn’t put life on hold. We don’t know how much time we have and I want to live life like him, embracing it, exploring, enjoying, nurturing friendships. He was a kind man too. So sad that they can’t meet in a beer garden next week as planned. He’d not wait until things were “back to normal”.

I’ve been counting down the days to go away. We’ve been vaccinated, have regular lateral flow tests, follow the rules. I’m fine with masks, beer gardens, takeaways as I did it last year on trips and had a fab time, as I’m sure we will this time.

Abracadabra12345 · 05/04/2021 22:11

We’re lucky as our Easter holidays extend to 19th. I’d have been gutted if not

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/04/2021 22:14

I didn't even think about covid last summer. Apart from masks in shops, we carried on as normal. Away with different families, sailing, kayaking trips, restaurants etc. Ideally looking to do the same.

AnyFucker · 05/04/2021 22:14

I am sorry for everyone missing out. We need this, all of us.

I'm wondering, as it's a holiday let, if the guidance allows us to travel before midnight and arrive just after midnight. I'm guessing so, as the stay local order ended on 29th March. We've been very careful all year and don't want to break any rules - but do want to make the most of this too-short break if we're allowed and it's safe to do so.

Shh. Some people think NO ONE does. But, well, I'm not one of them Grin.
MrsMackesy · 05/04/2021 23:07

It looks like self-catering for one family or support bubble, including to hotels with en-suite facilities and room service, is allowed from the rest of the UK from 12 April in Wales.
