Vaccine - did i get away with it?

Had AZ vaccine this morning.

Was/am scared of getting sick as i had covid in December and have heard that you are more likely to feel unwell if you have had it.

Has been a mixed bag with friends - some have been really quite unwell, some mild illness but no one has been symptom free. Almost no one been symptom free.

I suffer with anxiety so have worried all week about getting sick or having reaction.

So far i have had a bit of a sore arm that wouldn't have even registered if i hadnt been hyper aware

Is it too soon to think I'll get lucky?

My mum had the AZ vaccine about a month ago. She also had Covid in December and had no side effects from the vaccine at all.

ittakes2 · 28/03/2021 22:10

Sorry but the day I had the vaccine I was surprised how fine I was but developed a temperature in the middle of the night and was poorly for 24hrs. Hope you are OK though.

Bluntness100 · 28/03/2021 22:12

Honestly, I had cold symptoms, felt knackered, felt stiff, it lasted 24 hours but nothing that prevented me working and I was the only person in my friendship group to have any symptoms at all. I was totally surprised I’d reacted.

I think it’s not you’d be lucky to have no symptoms, more it would be very unlucky to have any symptoms really. It’s just your immune system kicking in and fighting it.

Timeisavirtue · 28/03/2021 22:15

I defo got away with it. I suspect I had COVID last April ( unable to do test as was a shortage) no way to tell for sure though. I had jab on Tuesday and only jot a mild sore arm, the kind you get if you walk into a door handle. I couldn’t sleep because I thought for sure I was going to get it bad but nothing came of it. I had a metallic taste about 30 minutes after the jab which lasted all of 5 minutes and that’s literally it.
My mum had hers Friday and has been achy and tired but not to the point she was laid up in bed.
My uncle said he felt tired the next day and had a sore arm and that was it and his husband had the same as me. We all had the az.....
Not sure what to make about it.
I’m 32, mum is 53 and uncles are both 50....

BestIsWest · 28/03/2021 22:18

It was 3 days later for me that I felt unwell. It’s a week now and I still feel really tired.

ColaHubbaBubba · 28/03/2021 22:19

My side effects hit after 9 hours. I got a fever (which I noticed as my teeth were chattering). I then had 24 hours - till now - of feeling rubbish but not so terrible that I have any regrets.

Hailtomyteeth · 28/03/2021 22:20

Had the vaccine on Thursday morning and have felt fine ever since. I had Covid in Feb 2020. Early and unpleasant, it was.

Gertie75 · 28/03/2021 22:24

I had mine at 4.30 on thursday, woke up on Friday feeling fine (and a bit smug), by lunchtime I had a headache then by 8pm I was in bed with a fever, prickly skin and headache a hundred times worse.

I did feel a bit better by the morning though although still a bit zoned out and now after 3 days I feel back to normal.

My arm has barely hurt at all.

greenlynx · 28/03/2021 22:37

It depends how tiring your job is, you might be ok. I felt really tired next morning but went for a walk with DD and then sat with her at the Zoom meeting. I wasn’t able to drive or operate machinery or do anything creative though. DH was staying in bed and worked on the laptop with breaks.

lurker101 · 28/03/2021 22:41

About 8 hours after the jab, I got very thirsty and had a sore head, felt mildly “hungover”for the next day.

Notthemessiah · 28/03/2021 22:42

I started exactly the same thread on Tuesday ( in Coronavirus) and the consensus there was that most people, if they react, will be about 12hrs after but there were one or two who were OK for 36 hrs before feeling crap.

CrunchyCarrot · 28/03/2021 22:42

My DP had Covid very mildly last July, had AZ vaccine on Thursday. Felt his arm was sore straight away, was otherwise fine till about 12 hrs later, when he developed chills. Next day he felt v tired, 'aching in his bones', off his food. By evening was feeling a bit better. Saturday (yesterday) was fine again, although his arm is still feeling a bit sore.

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 28/03/2021 22:44

Too early to say, I think. If you're fine this time tomorrow you'll probably be ok.

YouKnowItsTrue · 28/03/2021 23:13

I had the AZ jab at 11am and by 9pm I was tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle. Spent a horrible night with aches, shivers, teeth chattering, sweating, nausea. Woke up feeling wrung out but was ok after that. My friend had exactly the same.

Diesse · 28/03/2021 23:16

I hope you’re fine, but my intermittent fever kicked in on the third day. I couldn’t believe it. Only lasted about 12 hours though and was manageable, butI did feel rough.

YouKnowItsTrue · 28/03/2021 23:16

Forgot to say I haven’t had COVID

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/03/2021 00:27

Had no side effects at all with AZ, not even a sore arm. I'm a current cancer patient receiving immunotherapy 🤷🏻‍♀️

GoLightlyontheEarth · 29/03/2021 00:34

I felt okay the day I had it. Tired with a bit of a sore arm. Next day I felt a lot worse.

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/03/2021 00:56

I dont know anyone who hasnt been ill from it, from 45 to 70 in age. And it usually kicks in on day 2. for me it was feeling utterly wiped out, and headaches which lasted about 8 days.

blisstwins · 29/03/2021 01:04

I was fine after the first, sore arm after the second and tired the day after. So much better than covid. Even if you feel unwell tomorrow it will pass quickly.

Pissedoff1234 · 29/03/2021 01:04

DH had AZ about 10 hrs ago and has a slightly sore arm so far.

yeOldeTrout · 29/03/2021 06:05

How you doing OP?
I had AZ jab Saturday noon.
Sore arm started 12 hours later.
I went for a run Sunday which made the sore arm hurt a lot for 3 minutes and then soreness faded almost completely. So that run was an excellent decision.

Sore arm is (also) all that I had last time I had any jabs (5 jabs for a trip to Africa 6 years ago).

Basically AZ jab has been a non-event. The only substantial hassle was getting to jab centre.

LEMtheoriginal · 29/03/2021 07:13

Feeling a bit nauseous this morning, a bit like morning sickness but otherwise feel ok,arms hurting a bit. Not going to work. I have a fairly physical job and a ten hour shift. I feel a little bit like im.pulling a sickie but once im in work be difficult to come home.

OP posts:
Tigerchips · 29/03/2021 08:37

You are pulling a sickie. Couple of paracetamol and you'll be completely fine.

If you didn't know you had the jab you wouldn't be over analysing every little ache and feeling.

yeOldeTrout · 29/03/2021 08:37

That's a shame you have a rough start -- hope it's better soon.
I definitely reduced my only side effect by going for a run.
