Astra Zeneca 2nd Jab Side Effects

Bellabelloo · 27/03/2021 22:48

If you had side effects after your first jab, how was your second? I felt utterly awful after my first. My second is booked in June on a Friday and we are booked to go away that afternoon to stay in an Airbnb and see family we haven't seen in a year. I'm worried I'm going to spend the weekend in bed. Or be too ill to even get there. But I can't rebook the jab without cancelling my appointment first.

Just wondering what people's experiences have been. Google seems to suggest fewer side effects with the second AZ jab...

My daughter spent the day in bed after her first jab, but was absolutely fine after the second.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 27/03/2021 22:57

Following with interest as had my first yesterday. Bit of a dead arm immediately after but, as I’ve never had any effects whatsoever from any vaccine, I just thought I’d be ok. Then suddenly at about 11 am today I was utterly zonked and had a weird lactic acid feeling in my legs. Think I’m past it now so fingers crossed 🤞. Interested to see what happens in June ......

AlexaShutUp · 27/03/2021 23:03

I've read that there should be fewer side effects after the second AZ jab.

I had my first one yesterday. It hasn't been bad at all, but I have been very achey and tired. Hoping I'll be back to normal by tomorrow.

Dolciedolly · 27/03/2021 23:22

Hope I don't spent two days in bed with my first jab flu like symptoms , nausea like I was pregnant again and fatigue just getting over it

Tanfastic · 27/03/2021 23:24

I was awful after my first, felt terrible.

Had my second yesterday lunchtime and feel totally fine Grin

EasterIssland · 27/03/2021 23:30

Can’t you change the jab day? Even if I tell you I’ve been fine or crap it doesn’t mean you’ll have the same. I’d say just in case , you don’t lose your money and holiday id change the jab date

Bellabelloo · 27/03/2021 23:39

Fab. 🤞 it won't be as bad.

I tried to change the date, but you have to cancel the appointment before you can see what other appointments are available. I called the number too and the lady I spoke to said they had the same access and would have to cancel my appointment before seeing what others were available. She recommended not doing it as others who'd cancelled couldn't then get another appointment until weeks later.

As much as I want my weekend away I also want to reduce my chances of getting it as much as possible, so I guess I'll stick with my date and hope for the best. But I'm slightly anxious as was not expecting to feel as awful as I did for the first one!

After the way I have felt following the first jab, I'm not sure I'll be having the second.

DianaT1969 · 27/03/2021 23:46

@Babyroobs - how long did your symptoms last? Do you suffer with a lot of inflammation generally anyway?

I've had a bad headache for almost a week and a half and had a very weird episode with my eye that felt like some kind of seizure. I cannot say it was definitely related to the vaccine but was intensely scary and I cannot risk anything like that happening again.

Aquathest · 28/03/2021 00:05

I felt absolutely awful for 2 days after mine, hoping the second isn't as bad...

But more importantly just wanted to say to @Babyroobs that the new guidance is to see your GP / medical attention if you have a headache for more than 4 days after the Oxford/AZ vaccine (if that is the one you received). I hope your symptoms will reduce and you're feeling better soon xx

RhubarbCustardy · 28/03/2021 00:10

As an aside. You an report side effects on the Yellow Card website doesn't matter when you had it. Helps with research. I had a bad migraine type head for a day and tiredness but I'll still have my second one when it's time.

Singlenotsingle · 28/03/2021 00:12

No side effects whatsoever from the AZ jab. Waiting for my second one now, but bring it on!

Thank you. I have spoken to my GP. She said she is having loads of people speaking to her with prolonged headaches but GP's haven't really been given any guidance on what to do with these people ! My Gp says as long as the headache isn't getting worse, then she's not too concerned . My GP referred me to an eye triage place who I spoke to today and they are arranging for an optician to see me in the next few days, but I'm really convinced this was a neurolgical thing rather than an eye problem although of course seeing an optician may help me to understand what happened. Yes it was the Astrazenica one I had.
YellowPurple · 28/03/2021 00:16

I cancelled someones yesterday because it was booked in for 15 weeks after the first one

I said thats to late and 119 told me , 13,14,15 weeks later is fine.

I was like ‘hell no’
You cant just make that decision !
So cancelled it and got a new appointment for 3 weeks earlier

FurrySlipperBoots · 28/03/2021 00:19

@Babyroobs My mum lost her central vision for a while - was it like that at all. She's still really ill, and it's been I think 3 weeks now?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 28/03/2021 00:22

Jab 2 was a total non event in terms of side effects for me. I had to have a day off work after jab 1.

SquizzaMama · 28/03/2021 00:37

I hope vaccine number 2 is easier...

I had my first vaccine yesterday and feel awful. Very sore arm, really bad upset tummy, headache and insane fatigue.

Totallydefeated · 28/03/2021 00:42

Interesting to hear about the headaches with Astra Zeneca, as DH developed amnesia a few days after his first dose, with confusion and total loss of short term memory. He’s recovering quite well, but we’re waiting on MRI results. I’m nervous about him having a second dose.

Yes, interestingly I know all about the yellow card scheme, and anyone with any side effects should report them, but despite asking at the consent stage of the vaccine process if I should report , I was told not to bother too much about that 😮
@Babyroobs My mum lost her central vision for a while - was it like that at all. She's still really ill, and it's been I think 3 weeks now?
That is worrying for your mum. the episode I had is difficult to explain, I had severe pain and loss of vision in my eye for about 40 seconds , it felt like my eyeball had twisted and seized up in the wrong position. It was all consuming and so scary as I felt absolute panic. I shouted out for dh who was working upstairs and he came down but I was just in a terrible distressed state and couldn't say what was happening. I went into the kitchen and splashed a bit of water onto my face and by then my face had relaxed and my vision came back. I went to eye casualty but when I got there I couldn't even articulate to the triage staff what had happened, I felt completely out of sorts and just walked out of the department crying and went home. This isn't really like me to do something like that. I still feel very anxious about it days later , i still have headaches and funny zapping feelings in my head.

FurrySlipperBoots · 28/03/2021 02:16

@Babyroobs Fuck, that sounds horrible!! You poor thing. Are you getting weird sensations in your face at all? Or your mouth?

MRex · 28/03/2021 09:50

I only had a mild headache after the first dose. I did change the second dose appointment though because the original date didn't work and I wanted to extend to 12 weeks anyway due to better efficacy results. I waited until after first dose, then cancelled and immediately rebooked for a different day via 119. Don't cancel first thing in the morning when people with a new invite will be logging in and you should be ok.

Bellabelloo · 28/03/2021 16:48

Thanks @MRex x

I'm having my 2nd AZ jab next week.
After my first jab and before the advice to contact your GP about a headache that lasts , I had a low-grade headache for 2weeks.
I did post on here but decided it must not be related to the jab.
I'm now 9 weeks post jab but I did have a strange neurological event a couple of days ago which affected my eye and had me panicking. Again, this time due to the amount of time that has passed, guessing it's not related to the jab.
Just wanted to share.
I'll post my experience post 2nd vaccination.
