I saw 2 police officers in their van today...

one had his mask over his mouth but under his nose (I never know if that's down to stupidity or 'making a statement') and the other had his pulled right down under his chin.

If even the law enforcers aren't sticking to the rules anymore, I think that says something!

Another police basher they are arresting people dealing in close proximity with people unvaccinated every day, but yeah. They weren't wearing a mask right jeezo 🙄

UhtredRagnarson · 26/03/2021 20:39

Tbf @mrsjay they’re stopping married couples in vans and telling them they need to wear masks so I think it’s fair enough to expect the police to wear theirs too.

Mrsjayy · 26/03/2021 20:42

Spose so I mean they are obviously just jobsworths!

5128gap · 26/03/2021 20:46

I suppose there is an argument that as upholders of the law, while clearly visible in uniform and in a police vehicle, they should be setting an example.
However, they are people who have most probably been exposed to high risk throughout the pandemic and so are likely more relaxed than those who have not had to be out there.
They are also not the people who make the rules that stop you seeing your people, so your irritation is misdirected.

Berryofstraw · 26/03/2021 20:48

They don’t need to wear masks in a van with their work partner.

Tottington · 26/03/2021 20:48

We don't wear masks in our office/with our team. We've been crammed in together since the start of this. We get tested daily, have been fully vaccinated, and put on our PPE when we go out into the main areas of work... I don't know if work bubbles are a thing but they should be.
We have no choice but to eat our lunch in the office and have drinks etc... we're in PPE for around 7 hours of a 9 hour shift and it's exhausting!

DenisetheMenace · 26/03/2021 20:50

It says they’re not wearing their masks in an effective way and are therefore more likely to contract Covid. As would anyone else in the same circumstances.

What does it say to you, OP?

Remmy123 · 26/03/2021 20:55

If you are in a car with someone a mask will do little - they know that.

IfIHadAHeart · 26/03/2021 20:57

Police are exempt from wearing face masks and have been since the beginning.

FurrySlipperBoots · 26/03/2021 20:58

You're right, of course. I suppose it doesn't help that the people who do make the rules quietly bend them when it suits their own desires! It's aggravating to hear stories of police being heavy handed with the public over the Covid laws if not all members of the force are going to be seen as committed themselves, but of course you can't lump them together, they are individuals and I suppose many will be following the rules to the letter, and others will be breaking them without qualms. I'm just fed up of the situation and want it to go away. It seems to me that's either got to be by being super strict with an intense lockdown, stricter penalties, banning everything that makes life worth living, or just crack on with life with individuals shielding or taking risks as they see fit until we have a herd immunity. This terrible limping along like a wounded animal is unbearable though!

Is there such a thing as a work bubble?

Not officially, no. But when 80% of your working day is spent literally glued to your colleague, because social distancing means you can’t do your job, you’re tested almost every day and haven’t had a single case of Covid in a year, I’d say not wearing a mask for the other 20% of the day won’t make much of a difference.

EileenGC · 26/03/2021 21:01

We all are. The police officers probably too. They might’ve said ‘what’s the point anyway’. Aren’t most of us at that point now... 😭

Remmy123

Depends on the mask. A N95 is very effective at protecting the person wearing it.

Rizzoli123 · 26/03/2021 21:09

I get annoyed at people who take it off as soon as they come out of a shops. There still pasing people inside a shop but outside it dosent matter

I have also seen plenty of people with no mask on at all during school runs

Smartiepants79 · 26/03/2021 21:12

I’m in a work bubble at school and mask wearing (or not) is up to me.
There are a multitude of reasons why, for the 20 seconds of the day that you saw them, they weren’t wearing their masks.
I just can’t understand why anyone can get themselves so worked up about this rubbish.
Get something else to worry about.

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2021 21:13

I have not got the energy to get worked up about this.

Smartiepants79 · 26/03/2021 21:14

And you do know the chances of catching anything, whilst outside, from someone who walks past you at a normal distance is vanishingly small.
Unless they come and breathe on your face or lick you then your extremely likely to be fine.

minniemoocher · 26/03/2021 21:17

Police don't have to wear them unless in public in areas where they are required. Same goes for my work. No way can I work in a mask, too uncomfortable for extended periods. I'm vaccinated and testing weekly

JorisBonson · 26/03/2021 21:19

They were contained in a car. Why are you even bothered?

FWIW, I'm a police officer, albeit office based. We do have work bubbles and only go to the office with that bubble. It's been that way for a year.

minniemoocher · 26/03/2021 21:19

Btw way the refuse collectors don't mask, 5 or 6 in a crew here. And the drs don't mask behind the scenes either

UneAstuce · 26/03/2021 21:22

If they're in their van so what?

Wellbythebloodyhell · 26/03/2021 21:22

I couldn't even begin to get wound up by this let alone start a thread about it Shock get a life, move on, find something more constructive to do with your time than bothering with other people's mask antics

DaphneBridgerton · 26/03/2021 21:32

Who cares? Get a life

Ideasplease322 · 26/03/2021 21:40

There was a police woman in tesco today wearing her mask under Her nose. She also stood way to close behind me in he queue.

It’s not difficult to stick by the rules.

lljkk · 26/03/2021 22:06

I don't care but I will say I have noticed 2-3 ambulance crew sitting in the vehicle neither masked up. I will be happy when we can all go back to 'normal'.
