I have stuck to the rules and some but if the vaccines start working and lockdown is due to end (allegedly) in June then why do they need this?

@DontFaffAboutWills

We do count how many people have flu, well not all the individuals but there is flu surveillance. We don't just ignore it. Or rather, ordinary people have the luxury of being able to ignore it, but public health and the health service are always paying close attention to it.
Yes, I should have said that we don't count it and report it everyday centrally for people to obsess over, I know that in general there is monitoring
Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:52

@expectopelargonium Then they should think before he speaks is my point! And not try and to be everyone's mate by not being clear about what their plans are...

I don't care if people think he's a loon, this is fucking scary and I think he's right

@AcornAutumn I have been shouting too! Don’t run out of breath - we need to keep saying it. I know it is disheartening to be ignored and to have to listen to lies and manipulated statistics, but we have to keep going.

Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:54

@AcornAutumn Sorry re-read your post and I get what you are saying now

We have no meaningful opposition,I had hopes for Starmer, but he’s just withered up, and the media is in the pay of the criminal cabal running the show.
I am mystified that anyone can think things are ok.

Flyonawalk · 25/03/2021 19:58

@dingit Thank you for the Lord Sumption clip - that is interesting and frightening. I haven’t thought about the parallel with rationing after WW2. Some rationing lasted until 1954, so nearly a decade after the end of the war. And Sumption believes we may take longer than that to resist excessive government control. That is worrying indeed.

I'm exhausted

I need a break

Newly understanding folk need to pitch in and help and the politicians need to see letters and emails with new names on

I am genuinely exempt from mask wearing and clinically vulnerable. I had to give up wearing a lanyard at the start because it was too scary.

After feeling ill enough on the Tube that a chap had to pull the cord - embarrassing - I now wear my lanyard because this will go on for years and I don't want to add to the list of chronic conditions.

Any lurkers reading this who see sense - please, please help us. Many of us who have been fighting for a year are exhausted.

Flyonawalk · 25/03/2021 20:00

@Sally2791 So true - I had hopes for Starmer too but it isn’t going well. I think our best hope for opposition is from Tory rebels. There are some strong voices campaigning for restoration of our freedoms.

Flyonawalk · 25/03/2021 20:02

@AcornAutumn I am so sad to read how difficult this has been for you. I too hope that new voices will shout out. Flowers for you.

altlife · 25/03/2021 20:04

@AnaofBroceliande

We don't.
My thoughts too..
Moonme · 25/03/2021 20:05

@Flyonawalk Yes I am certainly no Tory but I agreed with everything Graham Brady said today in Parliament.
Starmer is a huge let down to me.

Apparently the NHS are being told to brace for a third wave. Don’t be angry at the government for this - there is actual evidence that this is likely to be needed.

Moonme · 25/03/2021 20:10

@dropthedeadhorse But who will that be being hospitalised if the majority of over 50's and the vulnerable are vaccinated (even partially)?
I thought the wave in Europe was from the Kent variant that we saw impact us at Christmas?
None of it makes sense...

maddiemookins16mum · 25/03/2021 20:11

Right from the start someone (Hancock I think) said 18 months to any kind of normality.

Moonme · 25/03/2021 20:12

And if they are being told that (?) then why are the Government gearing up to re-open everything...

OP posts:
Moonme · 25/03/2021 20:13

@maddiemookins16mum That isn't the messaging Johnson (supposedly the leader) has given

OP posts:
dropthedeadhorse · 25/03/2021 20:13

I do wonder what we haven’t been told. Vaccine resistant strain? End of social distancing killing the unvaccinated in large numbers?

AcornAutumn · 25/03/2021 20:17

Just saw a thread saying rules have been extended 🤦🏽‍♀️

Anyone who can keep going with the fight has my utmost respect. i'm making a cocktail now!

Quartz2208 · 25/03/2021 20:21

They need to cover their basis it is a year since it was enacted and needs renewing every six months

The simple answer is they dont know what will happen at each stage and it is easy to renew then it is to stop it and get it through again (which is a much more complicated process)

I suspect it will be renewed again in September to cover the winter period just in case

Moonme · 25/03/2021 20:25

@Quartz2208 But when does it stop... unless we eradicate covid there will always be some level of risk?

OP posts:
Quartz2208 · 25/03/2021 20:45

@Moonme its not about that it is about the techinical aspects of the Act.

When they brought it in it was set to expiry 25th March 2022. With reviews every six months and an more indepth review of the devolved powers after a year (which is today)

Basically today they said yes we still need this, no we shouldnt change anything, lets see where we are in the next six month review.

www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2020/7/part/2/enacted

Is the final provisions of the Act which basically cover it. We have only just started the roadmap process.

The rules havent been extended in the sense that it wasnt due to expire until next year anyway. It merely being agreed that it should be kept as is until the next review in Septmeber

rainbowfairydust · 25/03/2021 20:45

Probably once everybody has been offered the vaccine, children inlcluded, then it will become like flu.
They are just ticking off paperwork, if covid mutates or takes off again then they will need to reintroduce measures so they need to sign off the legalities... Hopefully we can have a more normal summer, then perhaps it will be back to restrictions like masks, testing in schools etc. Until all the kids are vaccinated

Fridacaninelo · 25/03/2021 20:52

Epidemiologists have said right from the start we were talking 18 months to 2 years. There isn't some authoritarian plot afoot here.

SunnySideAndMarmite · 25/03/2021 20:53

Just want to say, I hate this government, and everyone baying for restrictions, for taking away my dwindling fertile years. The greatest loss.
A massive fuck you to the lot of them.

Huge illegal hugs to everyone who realises there are worse things in life than death.

Sorry. As you were.
