Vaccination - side effects lasting longer than a few days and why are the side effects so pronounced in younger people?

Have many people had side effects from the AZ vaccination that have lasted more than a few days?

Also can anyone explain to me why the AZ vaccination seem to have such pronounced side effects in younger people in comparison to other vaccinations. I understand that younger people have a stronger immune response but the side effects seem to be very pronounced in many younger people. I’ve not heard of many people ending up in bed after other vaccinations. I plan to get mine as soon as it’s offered but I’m in my 30s and I’m feeling a bit nervous about how many younger people seem to be quite ill after their first dose.

Interesting. 19 year old Dd had AZ on Monday and was very unwell after. Still isn’t back to normal now. It was very worrying.
She definitely hasn’t already had covid.
My 72 year old parents barely reacted at all.
I didn’t know anything about reporting side effects? Will have a look.

RingtheBells · 26/03/2021 08:02

I had mine Monday and had the temperature, headache, nausea, fast heartbeat for a day or so, had been feeling a bit better then just this morning my heart rate was up again (Apple Watch) and I feel hot, hope it passes. I'm 63.

Runforthehills82 · 26/03/2021 08:45

I am 39 and had mine last week. I felt terrible for about 24 hours then mostly better, I have felt a bit rubbish on and off all week (sore arm, headaches, nausea and tired) but I’m still very glad to have had it and will be back with bells on for my second jab.

Angrymum22 · 26/03/2021 09:01

Like most things people will only moan about symptoms if they experience them.
We have all just had second dose of Pfizer at work, we were advised that second dose can cause more side effects. None of us have experienced anything different than first dose. Ages range from early 30s up to early 60s. Two have had Covid (positive test), two have had probable covid ( before testing available). The side effects included sore arm, mild nausea and tiredness.

NeedWineNow · 26/03/2021 09:09

I'm 58 and had mine last Saturday. The soreness in my arm has gone off but I still have a vague nausea feeling and suddenly feel very hot, especially at night. More or less the same as when I'm getting over a heavy cold really. I had the Oxford one.

Etulosba · 26/03/2021 09:36

I'm late 50s. I was too ill to work for two days afterwards and knackered for three. My arm wasn't sore at all though. Smile

I've had covid and the side effects of the jab were negligible in comparison.

morethanbetter · 26/03/2021 09:53

I had AZ yesterday and I felt dizzy a few hours afterwards and sore arm but the flu jab gave me significantly worse side effects. No one asked about the flu jab nor asked me to report it anyway.

Hm2020 · 26/03/2021 10:05

I agree with a pp I had mine two days ago and yesterday felt awful I was thinking why are the side effects so bad feeling sorry for myself Blush then I realised I haven’t had a vaccine since I was a child I don’t think I remember ever having one an do my ds ended up in hospital after one of his vaccinations he was so unwell I’m guessing like me most people just don’t remember having vaccines as they where too young.

Hm2020 · 26/03/2021 10:05

Oh sorry I have the flu jab every year but no side effects from that.

QueenOfPain · 26/03/2021 10:12

I’m 34, had covid at the end of Jan.

I had my first dose of Pfizer 27th Feb, I had a sore arm for about a week, and the night of my vacc I went to bed early feeling slightly achey and fatigued but woke up the next morning feeling completely normal.

My partner (35m) had covid at the same time, but quite a bit worse than I did, and he had his first dose of AZ yesterday, last night went to bed with a headache and feeling generally unwell. Awoke after 3 hours sleep with a fever, chills and aching all over. Went back to sleep and then woke again at 5.30 but didn’t feel too bad. He’s since messaged from work about 8.30am to say he’s got a banging headache but doesn’t feel bad enough to need to come home at the moment.

I suspect by tomorrow he’ll be back to his normal self and everything will have settled.

Iluvfriends · 26/03/2021 10:12

My 21 year old ds had his last week, he had a headache and shivers but was fine on day 3. Surely it's down to each individual person how they react to it and not age.

hellcatspangle · 26/03/2021 14:28

Anyone had cold symptoms after the jab (as in the sniffles)? Had mine Tuesday and felt generally rough on wed...now I've woken up with the sniffles, wasn't sure if that was a post jab symptom or if I've just got a cold.

hellcatspangle · 26/03/2021 14:29

@Rainbowsandstorms early 50's

OverweightPidgeon · 26/03/2021 14:47

I had AZ last Friday, was in bed with sniffles , uncontrollable shivering , achey bones and a banging headache for 2 days , then felt ok . Yesterday the headache was back along with nausea and I still feel awful today, I’m 56 and haven’t had covid.

Cherrypies · 27/03/2021 15:52

I'm 56, and had the AZ on monday evening, just a small sting.
Next day, a sore arm, a bit tired, a few chills, carried on working.
Arm gradually getting more sore, and today very tired and now diarrhoea, with arm very sore.
Sister says the same, but felt much better by day 6, so hopefully will be much better tomorrow Brew

RainBow725 · 30/03/2021 19:57

Finally feeling back to normal after about 10 days. I was like a zombie all of last week. I say this not to put anyone off having the vaccine but to give reassurance to anyone else suffering from extended side effects. They will end eventually! This thread kept me going last week. Smile

MotherOfGodHelpMeOutHereFellas · 30/03/2021 22:11

For those that didnt know about reporting side effects, this is the site: coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

I really think that more publicity should be given to gathering feedback on side effects.

Stillgoings · 30/03/2021 22:18

I'm 47. I had the AZ vaccination on Sunday.. Other than an aching arm and feeling very cold and shivery the first night I've been fine....so far....

knocke · 30/03/2021 22:29

Had jab on saturday & arm is still tender to touch.

knocke · 30/03/2021 22:31

I had dreadful shivers, was so cold & then was sweaty & too hot but paracetamol & the next day I was tired but fine.

littledrummergirl · 30/03/2021 23:06

I had mine on Saturday. I still have a sore arm which I can live with but yesterday I was so tired. I'd sit down with a cup of tea, blink and the tea would be cold! It was so hard to stay awake. It was better today but I was tired towards the end of the day.
Weirdly, I've got a patch of blisters on the hand opposite the injection site that came up today, they aren't much bigger than pin heads but are in a circle around the size of a pen lid. I've no idea if that's connected.

littledrummergirl · 30/03/2021 23:07

I forgot to say that I've also had the sniffles and nausea.
A friend had theirs the same day and spent Sunday in bed with chills and fever.

TheHobbitMum · 30/03/2021 23:08

I seem to of suffered more than anyone I know, my MIL had side effects for 24hrs similar to others her age. I'm 39 and I was knocked out for a week, the worst I've ever felt. I don't know of anyone else who was ill for so long

RainBow725 · 30/05/2021 17:56

Very pleased to report after having such a hard time with the first jab, I had very few side effects from my second one. Just pretty tired for the following 24 hours and that was it. Soooo relieved!

applesandoranges221 · 01/06/2021 18:26

Had horrific side effects - in bed for two days, worse than flu etc. Still rocking up on Friday for round 2.
