Is anyone booking a 2022 holiday?

My poor children are desperate to have something to look forward to.

Has anyone booked?

We've got a house booked for France for Aug 2021 (booked back in September when we'd returned from France - didn't seem too big a stretch that we'd be able to go again), decent cancellation terms, and we've not booked travel yet.

Booked flights and car hire for a US trip in October 2021.

I've had A LOT of trips cancelled in the last 12 months, nothing's going to stop my optimism that I'll be able to travel again. Not waiting until we have the full green light, as the prices would have gone up so much, we wouldn't be able to afford it.

As for hotel quarantine, that's only for countries on the red list, so I'd just keep monitoring it. I think wherever we go is likely to have a decent vaccination programme, so I'm not too concerned. And if they don't happen, oh well. But if they do Grin.

poppycat10 · 16/03/2021 11:50

I am planning a trip next March but haven't booked yet, I will book much nearer the time. I don't want the hassle of having to cancel if things get worse again, although I would have thought anywhere in Europe would be a safe bet by this time next year as everyone will have been vaccinated (who wants to be).

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/03/2021 11:54

Sort of - I’ve put my 2021 holiday off to 2022.

There seems no way that kids will have a vaccine this year (hopefully by next summer though) which could end up as a pre requisite to travel.

I could see UK holidays booking up this year, and didn’t want to end up with nothing.

cirrusminor · 16/03/2021 11:55

Haven't booked anything yet but I am absolutely desperate to travel at the end of this year or early 2022. I haven't seen my family for 4 years now (was due to travel March 2020, obviously got cancelled). I'm usually pretty good but I've got to the stage where I keep having dreams where I hug my parents and grandparents and then I wake up and realise I'm by myself, so that's how I know it's getting desperate!

Moondust001 · 16/03/2021 11:57

I have bookings for June and September this year, and January next. And I will be on the first plane out of here that I can find! The only worry that I have about travelling is that it won't go (no risk to money as covered, I just want to experience sunshine!). If June falls victim to a ban I will be rebooking for as soon as I can! I will not be defeated. I am going abroad.

notrub · 16/03/2021 12:09

@Waxonwaxoff0

I highly doubt that will still be a thing in 2022 to be honest.
I'm fairly sure it will be a thing, although it may not be as widespread is now.

If the vaccination program gives us good suppression/herd immunity, then all of the attention will be focused on preventing new strains entering the country from abroad. So anyone returning from a nation that experiences a new strain of concern will likely be subject to quarantine.

It's impossible to know when and where such strains will appear, so the risk cannot be quantified - personally I'd wait and see.

Daisyhoney · 16/03/2021 12:24

Got a cruise booked to the canaries for sept 2022 - can't wait to go as we've got a superior deluxe balcony for the first time ( belated honeymoon ) .
Two holidays booked for June & Sept this year at holiday parks in the UK. Can't wait to sleep somewhere that isn't my house.

Wait & see until when though?

@Daisyhoney - have a lovely time :)

I've got 3 foreign holidays booked this year. If we are allowed to go, I'm going. People don't follow the rules now, I don't think society will accept another 12 months of restrictions. Particularly once the majority have been vaccinated.

I don't buy all the doom and gloom. We have a lockdown exit plan and I'm very hopeful we will be able to stick to it.

Daisyhoney · 16/03/2021 12:44

Aw thank you so much SugarbabyMilly - I hope you book something nice for you and your family .

Cuppaza · 16/03/2021 12:46

I’ve always been slightly verging on the more pessimistic side with regards to things opening etc. However, I think 2022 will be fine for holidays abroad. I would book if I were looking

HollyBollyBooBoo · 16/03/2021 12:51

Yes booked 5 breaks but only caravan sites so can be cancelled without losing any deposit.

peak2021 · 16/03/2021 13:16

I could tell you where I plan to go, but other than one event ticket, have nothing booked.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/03/2021 13:31

I've booked Florida for April 2022. It can be moved up until April 2023 so we'll decide nearer the time whether we'll go

toolatetooearly · 16/03/2021 13:31

We will absolutely 100% be able to have foreign holidays by summer 2022.

Delatron · 16/03/2021 13:37

I’ve got Oct 2021 booked that was rolled over from May last year.

I managed to get away in July 2020 ( when there were no vaccinations) so I’m feeling positive about this summer (with good cancellation terms) let alone next summer!

Llh1979 · 16/03/2021 13:55

I've also got camping booked in our tourer we have a pregnancy in the family so no abroad holidays this year

kessiebird · 16/03/2021 14:21

April 2021 caravan booked
June 2021 abroad booked.
Both should have both vaccines by June. Just waiting to hear really, until the gov confirm I'd rather just hang on to hope and be optimistic.

Wejustdontknow · 16/03/2021 16:12

We have two uk holidays booked for this year and one abroad for next April, I am optimistic all will go ahead but if not all come with a refund/rebook option

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/03/2021 16:49

Waiting until closer so we don’t lose money. Shall continue to save so we can go if safe but no disappointment if we can’t. Not the end if the world to not have a holiday.

Pootle40 · 16/03/2021 17:14

I am hoping to go abroad this summer!

starfro · 16/03/2021 17:19

Holidays will be hugely popular in both 2021 and even more so in 2022.

Jet2 are having to add capacity for this summer as bookings are much higher than expected.

easyJet likewise.

Book now to avoid disappointment.

Katie517 · 16/03/2021 18:06

Last summer we had no vaccines (and plenty of variants they just hadn’t named them or looked for them!) people went abroad. This summer we have one of the most successful vaccination programs and all vulnerable people will have been protected plus the added benefit of seasonality and the impact this has on respiratory illnesses. Why do you think holidays won’t happen this year yet alone 2022? We have July, September, November holidays abroad booked and are also hoping to see family in Denmark in December. We will be refunded if they don’t go ahead but I honestly can’t see them not allowing international travel this year. We will not be using hotels for isolation in 2022 that’s for sure or we will have no travel industry left.

Shodan · 16/03/2021 18:08

I have to wait until October to book, as two of our party can't book their holiday dates until then.

But the minute I can, I'm booking a 17 day Disney/Universal holiday- providing that we can go 'normally' - ie no masks. I reckon we'll have a clearer idea by then, of how things are going.

If it still looks really bad/unclear, I'll wait for 2023.
