My poor children are desperate to have something to look forward to.

Has anyone booked?

We have Tenerife booked for August 2022 and a UK holiday booked for August 2021.

We had Easter and October holidays cancelled in 2020 and got full refunds for both, so I'm not going to sweat it.....what will be will be.

Oblomov21 · 16/03/2021 18:22

I am positive 2022 will be fine.
I think late 2021 will probably be fine.
I'm staggered as to why people think it won't be.

Every adult will be offered a vaccine by the end of July, brought forward from September.

As pp said if travel industry isn't up and running by 2022, the industry will have almost died.

What exactly do you think is going to go wrong that mean you won't be able to by 2022?

Ineverdidmind · 16/03/2021 18:25

@Oblomov21 when we booked ours we weighed it up and the only things we could think of that could mess it up were a new variant that the vaccine is ineffective against, or the hotel/travel company going bust. We decided to take the risk.

Spodge · 16/03/2021 18:25

Yes. We have two cruises (originally meant for 2020 and 2021) now both moved to 2022. The first one is in June.

KikoMiko · 16/03/2021 18:32

We have one European holiday booked for October, moved from last year. Booking Australia for October 2022 as soon as DH gets clearance for a month off work. If there are any restrictions it will be fully refundable or amendable.

Lemons1571 · 16/03/2021 20:59

Just booked TUI for summer 2022. Gonna take the risk of whatever the situation is at that time.

France summer 2021 but that’s cancellable and refundable.

Whysotired · 16/03/2021 21:17

Booked one for May 2022 booked it 3 weeks ago and it’s gone up by 1500 in that time to what we paid. There is 8 adults and 3 kids going though. Tbh the airline industry will not be around if we aren’t flying in 2022. X

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 16/03/2021 21:29

We have one booked but tbh its actually our 2020 holiday that was moved to this year and we have moved again to next year

99victoria · 16/03/2021 23:15

We had a holiday to Greece booked for June 2020 and we postponed it to June 2021.

We will both have been vaccinated by then and it looks hopeful that Greece will be welcoming British tourists by then so we are certainly planning to go if we can. Happy to do the 10 quarantine at home when we get back

sleepwouldbenice · 17/03/2021 00:27

With those who have booked cancellable and refundable can you tell me who with please?

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 17/03/2021 00:31

Booked August this year, one abroad and a back up in Scotland. Both fully cancellable.

Looking into booking Disney in 2022.

BritWifeinUSA · 17/03/2021 02:22

We have several bookings already made. September 2021, March 2022, June 2022 and February 2023. Fingers crossed at least one of them goes ahead.

MaryShelley1818 · 17/03/2021 05:27

We have - UK Lake District June 2021
Spain September 2021
CenterParcs December 2021
Spain August 2022

Keeping everything crossed x

Katya213 · 17/03/2021 07:39

Yes, one booked for summer and another for next year.

DinosaurDiana · 17/03/2021 07:40

I want to book but my 16 year old won’t go abroad without a jab, so I’m stuck until that happens.

Parker231 · 17/03/2021 07:45

We want to visit family this summer. Waiting to hear if those countries are opening up to U.K. travellers. Happy with the idea of vaccine passports to protect the countries we’re travelling to.

Anon778833 · 17/03/2021 08:46

@DinosaurDiana yes I have the same problem. Also there is a shortage of Pfizer in the uk and AZ is not licensed for under 18.

From Sky News. Plans for EU member states. I have a Belgian passport but the rest of the family Canadian so not sure about family holidays

More details of EU's Digital Green Certificates travel plan emerge

The EU has released more details of it Digital Green Certificates travel plan.

Here's a summary:

The certificate will offer proof that a person has been vaccinated, received a negative test result or recovered from COVID-19

It will be available, free of charge, in digital or paper format

It will be valid in all EU member states and open for Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway as well as Switzerland

The scheme will be suspended once the World Health Organisation (WHO) declares the end of the pandemic

It is unclear at this stage whether or at what stage UK citizens may be able to apply for a certificate, but EU guidance says they "should also be issued to non-EU nationals who reside in the EU and to visitors who have the right to travel to other member states"

Anon778833 · 17/03/2021 14:32

Some EU countries have such a large number of tourists from the UK that their economy won’t recover well if they can’t continue to take holidays there.

Thewiseoneincognito · 17/03/2021 14:37

I hope we all get to go on our holidays, but I’m also realistic that as things stand travel abroad will be extremely difficult over the coming years. Hopefully we should have a clearer understanding of how things are in the next few weeks when we start to see the effects of schools reopening good or bad.

Europe is in the midst of their next wave, ours will start swelling up fairly soon once restrictions start easing. How this affects our plans only time will tell.

minniemoocher · 17/03/2021 14:40

Plan a holiday with them but don't actually book. Not sure of their ages but mine loved planning and researching road trips through Europe, I had them put together dossiers on proposed stops eg - great for literacy etc but their hotel suggestions were rarely suitable think 5 *!

How can you plan a holiday but not book it? My children will have an age range of 18-2 so I will need to have booked a suitable hotel.

Most of the companies seem to have Covid specific insurance that you can take out.
