No Pfizer in the UK (?)

First of all let me start off by saying the only evidence I have is from a conversation with a Doctor yesterday when I had my AZ vaccine.

At the weekend I was lucky enough to be placed on a waiting list for cancelled appointments. Myself and around 15 colleagues had an appointment yesterday (all teachers). We asked why so many slots had become available. Doctor replied people have cancelled due to AZ fears but then said ‘if they’re waiting for the Pfizer they’ll have a long wait as there’s none in the UK at the moment’.

For me it was an easy to decision to make to have the AZ, I’m surrounded by hundred of people daily in unventilated small spaces. Just yesterday a whole year group was sent home after being back 4 days.

I guess why I’m posting if if you are considering delaying the vaccine in the hopes to opt for Pfizer, it maybe a while and weigh up whether you can keep trying to keep yourself safe before having the vaccine if your choice.

@LastTrainToTrancentral

A working dr may have been trained, but they won't be working in a vaccine centre Hmm They may be recruiting retired or non-employed drs.
It's this kind of naivety we laugh at within the medical profession!
LastTrainToTrancentral · 16/03/2021 10:00

Well a Dr knowing all the ins and out of vaccine availability and acquisition across the UK is the sort of naivety we laugh at in the NHS management profession!

Pomegranatespompom · 16/03/2021 10:08

Nhs management- ah ...

Dizzybintess · 16/03/2021 10:12

I had my second Pfizer jab on Monday so they do have some in the UK
on my first jab I had a numb face for 24 hours, on the second one my underarm glands are so swollen I cannot lift my left arm. The pain is radiating all across my left boob. I am feeling rough with endo at the moment so mu immune system has taken a battering!

BunsyGirl · 16/03/2021 10:17

My GP surgery has confirmed that all their first dose allocations for the weeks to come are AZ so they will only be doing Pfizer second doses from now on.

Dontstepinthecowpat · 16/03/2021 10:18

I’m having my second Pfizer tomorrow, so far I’ve not heard otherwise.

Agree with you on this.

Everyone 'knows someone high up in the know' Hmm

espressoontap · 16/03/2021 10:21

I've had my second Pfizer. I'm nhs staff - they are trying to work through all the staff who had their first Pfizer to ensure they get their second as they are phasing it out. No idea why.

espressoontap · 16/03/2021 10:24

I was told after my first it'd be 12 weeks until my second, it's been 6.

HolmeH · 16/03/2021 10:24

My GP has several Pfizer vaccination clinic running this week for second doses 🤷🏼‍♀️ They pop updates on Facebook every day .. still running today and has been since last Friday. We are in Yorkshire..

But of a flippant comment for one doctor there. How would a doctor in say Cornwall know what the supply was like in say Liverpool?!

Upsidedownfrown · 16/03/2021 10:28

I had my 1st pfizer end of last week and dh has his second on Monday

Oblomov21 · 16/03/2021 10:28

Bugger. I was still hoping to get my 2nd Pfizer in 2 weeks. Hope I don't get the GummieBear situation.

lljkk · 16/03/2021 10:30

Are Pfizer & AZ only 2 types in UK?

I thought Moderna got approval, too. And maybe others.

Moderna has been approved but I don’t think we have the doses yet.
ClearMountain · 16/03/2021 10:33

I’m worried sick that I won’t get my second dose of Pfizer. I’m not mixing and matching, it’s too dangerous and untested. I’m fucked if there’s no Pfizer available for my second dose, if I’d known this would happen I wouldn’t have accepted the first dose.

halcyondays · 16/03/2021 10:37

The doctor was probably talking about people who haven’t had their first jab yet but want to wait for Pfizer. They will be mostly using Pfizer for second doses for people who had it for their first I think.

halcyondays · 16/03/2021 10:39

They say anyone in NI who had Pfizer for their first dose will get it for their second. But they will mostly be using AZ in the big centres for first doses.

HolmeH · 16/03/2021 10:40

@ClearMountain - they won’t mix/match. It hasn’t gone through any kind of approval.

It won’t be dangerous in the sense it could harm you, it’s just another vaccine. We give babies multiple doses of different vaccines all at once in early childhood immunisations. If it’s ok for a tiny newborn, it’s certainly ok for a grown adult. The concern would be the level of protection provided by mix/matching. Potentially, it may give now as your immune system tackles different approaches to the virus entering your body but we don’t know. It’s being trialled.

And that's the problem with SM posting.

All we have heard from people who are in charge of the rogramme is that Pfizer will be prioritised for those who had it as their first jab - lots of people.

It is simple logistics and yet so many seem to absolutely revel in scaring the shit out of people with alternative realities!

Don't worry. Barring the next meteorite coming a lot closer, you'll get your Pfizer jab.

herecomesthsun · 16/03/2021 10:42

Maybe "possible Pfizer supply issues in some parts of the UK" would be more accurate?

herecomesthsun · 16/03/2021 10:45

Also had Pfizer for my first dose, but wouldn't worry too much about a different second dose, to be honest. There is a line of thought that it might even give more protection.

And there are plans for third doses being sketched out, starting from August, possibly. I would think it will all come together.

I am not at all worried about the blood clot issue!

We aren't allowed to mix and match between manufacturers, it's media scaremongering.
oneglassandpuzzled · 16/03/2021 11:18

Second doses of Pfizer being given in my area next week!

ClearMountain · 16/03/2021 12:40

Exactly. So if there’s no Pfizer I won’t get my second dose.

HolmeH · 16/03/2021 12:50

There are doses @ClearMountain - they are reserved for second vaccines & not those having their first shot who would prefer it over AZ. One doctor saying there is none in the UK is a complete lie. As I said in an earlier post, my GP are running clinics all week for second dose Pfizer, so clearly there is plenty here. There is not none. There is no point worrying when there’s a 99% chance it’ll all go ahead as planned. If when your second dose is due, it gets cancelled, then you can be annoyed. I just can’t understand worrying or being annoyed about something that has not yet happened & probably won’t happen. Chances are you’ll get your jab as planned!
