No Pfizer in the UK (?)

First of all let me start off by saying the only evidence I have is from a conversation with a Doctor yesterday when I had my AZ vaccine.

At the weekend I was lucky enough to be placed on a waiting list for cancelled appointments. Myself and around 15 colleagues had an appointment yesterday (all teachers). We asked why so many slots had become available. Doctor replied people have cancelled due to AZ fears but then said ‘if they’re waiting for the Pfizer they’ll have a long wait as there’s none in the UK at the moment’.

For me it was an easy to decision to make to have the AZ, I’m surrounded by hundred of people daily in unventilated small spaces. Just yesterday a whole year group was sent home after being back 4 days.

I guess why I’m posting if if you are considering delaying the vaccine in the hopes to opt for Pfizer, it maybe a while and weigh up whether you can keep trying to keep yourself safe before having the vaccine if your choice.

@Lindy2

Slightly off topic but how do you go on a cancellation list? I've just had my Astra Zeneca jab but DH isn't eligible yet. He works in a prison so is in a high risk environment.
I don’t know sorry. My head organised and booked the appointments. All I did was send her my personal details.

I’ve reported my thread now so may disappear shortly.

Obviously the doctor was just making us feel better/making generalisations.

I wouldn’t want to cause worries for those who are waiting for second doses.

Sorry!

I've got my jab today and was/am expecting AZ. My friend had hers last night at same venue and got AZ. But vaccinator said they do both and don't know what will turn up until it does! Grin Delighted to get any jab!

I’m interested too (DH late 40’s teacher underlying conditions and not a vaccine in sight).

We are doing Pfizer jabs this week and have the stock so your doctor friend is being tit.

Malteser71 · 16/03/2021 07:08

Husband had Pz Saturday, I’m
Having it this morning. Both second dose.

Not a ‘friend’ @hashbrownsandwich. Was the doctor who gave me the vaccine.

But still obviously talking rubbish!

I had my second Pfizer on saturday. I had a morning appointment my colleagues with afternoon appointments had them cancelled cos not enough supply turned up. As I understand in our area Pfizer is being used for second does and first does are AZ.

Popplebop · 16/03/2021 07:29

My second dose Pfizer was rearranged because of delivery issues. But only by one day.

RedcurrantPuff · 16/03/2021 07:33

@AnyFucker

I bloody hope not. I have just had my 2nd Pfizer jab confirmed for this week.
My sister and friend have both just had second dose Pfizer, I wonder if what we have is being kept back for second doses. So hopefully you’ll be OK.

I can’t get over people cancelling and thinking they can wait for the Pfizer. The entitlement of people is shocking. They should take what they’re offered and be bloody grateful

Pastanred · 16/03/2021 07:33

Op that all sounds like a bit of queue jumping there

Not judging but they’re not cancellations

No sites near me are operating cancellation lists like that and if they are, they are very last minute - like ringing round the last hour of the day

The fact you could book in advance suggests they’re not cancellations at all

Pastanred · 16/03/2021 07:35

By that I mean gp facilitated

Armi · 16/03/2021 07:39

I had the Pfizer as a first dose at the weekend.

Blessex · 16/03/2021 07:39

What is happening with certain countries at the moment makes me want to cry with frustration. Looking at the data you could even make a case for the AZ vaccine REDUCING blood clots because the number of people who have had them after being vaccinated is actually LESS than the general rate of blood clots. I just tear my hair out in frustration and simply pray this will not push us off track. Vaccination is the only way out of this nightmare. I am late 40s so if there is one silver lining it may push me up the list if others are cancelling. More fool them.

DingoWings · 16/03/2021 07:42

In another thread I posted with concerns about getting the same jab second time, I was told that any Pfizer had been earmarked for second doses. There are a lot of elderly folk who had a Pfizer back in January and will need a second one within the next month or so.

Calmdown14 · 16/03/2021 07:44

If you are close to the next age bracket just keep checking the online booking system. It often opens to the next category before it's officially announced. Suspect purposely so it is less likely to crash with demand all at once

scentoflilacs · 16/03/2021 07:59

My mum has had her 2nd Pfizer jab cancelled twice.

scentoflilacs · 16/03/2021 08:00

(due to supply issues)

SignsofSpring · 16/03/2021 08:08

I don't think this thread should be deleted- it is fine to discuss our understandings and find out if we are wrong, perhaps the threat title could be altered to be a question, given you now know there is Pfizer in the UK!

YukoandHiro · 16/03/2021 08:12

My husband had Pfizer last week

Mayormaynothavehadit · 16/03/2021 08:13

Blessex

Totally agree, this is not what Europe needs right now is it

sashagabadon · 16/03/2021 08:14

We have plenty of Pfizer for second jabs where I work

SixyTixts · 16/03/2021 08:16

Lots of NHS staff are receiving their second dose of Pfizer over the next couple of weeks.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 16/03/2021 08:18

I don’t know anyone who’s had the Pfizer. We’re all AZ where I am.

LeafCutterAnt · 16/03/2021 08:21

Let's hope they use leftover vaccine in lots of schools, taxi ranks, supermarkets, police stations, bus stations etc. There will probably be a lot of leftover this week as they were supposed to be doing double the number they normally do this week due to a big delivery of AZ from India, but people will drop out due to fear being stoked up, even though the WHO say to keep doing it. Can't wait to get mine in 2 days time. My area has offered to all over 50s now
