How long is it taking to get test results back now?

DC had a temperature earlier and been off her food. I've booked a test for the morning, but last time (October), it took four days for the results to come through. I think it's a lot faster now. Any idea how long tests results are taking now?

Mine took about 16hours

HolmeH · 15/03/2021 07:12

My last couple in Feb & March were 12 hours. (I have forever germy nursery aged children & asthma, so I constantly get coughs 🤦🏼‍♀️)

Megan2018 · 15/03/2021 07:16

We did one 2 weeks ago and got the result in 12.5hrs (test at 10.30am, email at 11pm). The test centre was a walk in and it was so quiet, only 1 other person being tested and they had hundreds of free appointments.

Very different to the last experience we had in 2020 which took 3 days.

whatswithtodaytoday · 15/03/2021 07:19

I did one last week at a walk-in centre which took 23 hours. Previously they took 48+ so it was a vast improvement.

We did one Saturday morning and had results back in the evening. Couldn't believe it!

worriedandknockedup · 15/03/2021 07:25

DH did one at a test centre on sat at 8am. Result at 2:30am that night, so it was pretty quick.

Unfortunately it was positive so that's a bit shit though Confused

Bufferingkisses · 15/03/2021 07:26

Test yesterday at 12, result today at 6am. They are definitely faster now.

worriedandknockedup · 15/03/2021 07:26

On a side note; we want to get our Dc tested as he's feeling a bit hot and looks flushed (okay otherwise).

Any tips on how to actually do the throat swab on a little one? He's 4.

GreenBalaclava · 15/03/2021 07:27

I took DS for one last week and we got the results in less than 9 hours!

Elizabeth110100 · 15/03/2021 07:38

You'll only have to do his nose. It still isn't easy and I had to use bribery and a lot of distraction. Good luck!

louisejxxx · 15/03/2021 07:40

We’ve had to get tested recently across a variety of days as we all started displaying symptoms - all came back in under 12 hours apart from one that was done by post which was 36 hours.

Thanks. Sounds like the timing has improved a lot. It was pretty easy to book a test too this time round. Last time took hours of refreshing and being offered sites an hour and a half away. DC has no temperature now, so hoping all fine. @worriedandknockedup hope you feel ok

I just took my almost 4 year old for one. I was told I could just do her nose.
MRex · 15/03/2021 11:22

20 hours and 17 hours recently.

DollysDart · 15/03/2021 12:50

DS started coughing yesterday after a walk. Booked the test at 1.30pm for 2.30pm the same day. Test done and in the box by 3pm and result at 6am this morning! Very impressed with the 15hr turn around and means that he can go to school tomorrow if he feels up to it.

DollysDart · 15/03/2021 12:53

@worriedandknockedup you only need do the nose. If you can't do the tonsils just do both nostrils. My sons had 3 now and been pretty good with all of them - bribery with sweets has been my saviour I think!

namechange63524 · 15/03/2021 20:27

Got the results back already. Seriously impressed...and relieved that negative.

I had one yesterday and it took 23 hours. I hope it’s negative.

Ilovemypyjamas2021 · 15/03/2021 22:43

My husband & 6 year old daughter had PCR tests at a drive through test centre this morning at 1000 his result (thankfully negative) has just been sent but we’re still awaiting our daughter’s result. She currently off school - we’re in a situation similar to the OP. DH is slightly confused though as he has received two emails re: his test result at the same time however they are worded slightly differently. Is this normal?

Yes, I got that for DS's result, one just the result and the other one talking about updating the app with the result.

I hope you got your DD's result now.

PivotPivotPivottt · 16/03/2021 07:34

Test yesterday about 10.30am. Result at 8pmSmile

Loveacheekysausage · 19/03/2021 06:20

Reading this with envy!! My 1 year old had his on the 17th and still no result! I’ve booked another test as we are all isolating as per guidelines and my 5 year old is obviously missing school - they don’t give work! It’s been a tough few days and I have a feeling his result will either be inconclusive or lost. This was his seventh one and all of the others have been returned with 24 hours - we are now approaching 72 for this one!

MRex · 19/03/2021 06:29

From 17th to now must be under 2 days, so under 48 hours not 72 hours. Totally understand you're being driven crazy at home, but it hasn't been as long as you think. Hope you get a conclusive result soon.

MRex · 19/03/2021 06:29

Also you could ring up with your test card number in case is your email or phone number that's the issue.

Loveacheekysausage · 19/03/2021 06:42

@mrex you’re right from the 17th, test was the 16th. My days are all a muddle! Lol.
