That would be bad if true. Confused Can't vax all the animals.
Did I mishear?

Crikey mad as ever here. We are all doomed.

XenoBitch · 12/03/2021 13:51

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

houndedbytheherd · 12/03/2021 14:23

Cats get coronaviruses, and can get the Covid-19 virus and pass it on.
Relatively underreported.
At various points in pandemic various veterinary organisations have said to keep cats indoors, followed by vets saying please don't do that Confused

Beaniecats · 12/03/2021 14:40

Yeah course it is

BlackeyedSusan · 12/03/2021 16:02

We know Gorillas get it... also radio 4.

MoriParty · 12/03/2021 16:16

To other cats, yes, not to humans it's the other way round. We can infect them. Even cats infecting other cats is extremely unlikely, that happened in a lab where the cats were forcibly exposed to high viral loads in close proximity.

It came from animals and its been known since the beginning that other species can be infected, remember the mink cull?

ChocOrange1 · 12/03/2021 16:18

Monkey World asks all visitors over the age of 3 to wear masks, because apes can catch covid and be similarly affected to humans.
Once humans are vaccinated, it doesn't really matter if animals catch it does it? Obviously we aren't going to lock down the country to prevent vets from being overwhelmed.

Fembot123 · 12/03/2021 16:46

Didn’t a tiger have it during lock down one

There was an outbreak in a mink farm farm where they are bred for their fur. Pretty sure it was not a randomly tested wild one.

I feel for the person who had to take the test on that animal.
Fembot123 · 12/03/2021 17:07

No it wasn’t a wild one

OldRailer · 12/03/2021 17:08

It's not a surprise.

ChameleonClara · 12/03/2021 18:26

I wish all the (predicted) events of this year could make us take stock globally and think of a better way to exist on the planet.

crazybunchofdolls · 12/03/2021 18:28

There was a news story this week about vaccinating orangutans and chimpanzees somewhere.

Twistered · 12/03/2021 18:31

Sorry I don't know why but I am actually laughing out loud reading this Grin

Twistered · 12/03/2021 18:32

I know it's not really funny but still though Grin
Maybe it's nervousness making me laugh here

Absolutely!

SpnBaby1967 · 12/03/2021 18:33

Havent they stared to sort a vaccine now for chimpanzees? Sure I read it somewhere?

kennelmaid · 12/03/2021 18:34

Covid19 is known to be a zoonotic disease. The pandemic started in one of Wuhan's wet markets, transferred to humans from trapped wildlife where animals/birds/fish etc. are killed on the spot to order by the customer.

My dad has had his jab, so I think you are right Grin
CrunchyCarrot · 13/03/2021 08:00

Cats are far better at social distancing than people. 'Get back or I'll swat you into the middle of next week!' Hiss, growl. Grin

One of my fav quotes.

changi · 13/03/2021 09:02

I head somewhere that bats can get it.
