CDC reports lockdowns and masks in the USA resulted in an awesome 1.8% decrease in covid cases (not deaths) after 100 days! And even though:

During the study period, states allowed restaurants to reopen for on-premises dining in 3,076 (97.9%) U.S. counties. Changes in daily COVID-19 case and death growth rates were not statistically significant 1–20 and 21–40 days after restrictions were lifted.
(CDC Weekly / March 12, 2021 / 70(10);350–354)

...I think it's too early to be careless.

Wahoooo! TRIUMPH!

Bet the virus doesn't know what's hit it, can't wait for my September booster, and we might avoid any mutations if we stay in lockdown just to be safe. I'm celebrating hard after seeing that!

Who's with me? :)

I don't see the 1.8% reduction mentioned in the text you quoted and you didn't provide a link to the CDC statement, so I don't know what 100 day period you're referring to.

Lockdowns started in the US about a year ago. Cases peaked around Dec/January. Case rates have come down nicely since vaccination started, and that is very good news.

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 19:24

^During March 1–December 31, 2020, state-issued mask mandates applied in 2,313 (73.6%) of the 3,142 U.S. counties. Mask mandates were associated with a 0.5 percentage point decrease (p = 0.02) in daily COVID-19 case growth rates 1–20 days after implementation and decreases of 1.1, 1.5, 1.7, and 1.8 percentage points 21–40, 41–60, 61–80, and 81–100 days, respectively, after implementation (p

Figures for COVID-19 deaths with no underlying health conditions are available on Table 5, this means where no other underlying condition was listed on the death certificate.

No pre-existing condition: England and Wales – 4476
www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/covid19deathsbyageanddeathsfromcovid19only

So if that had been higher without masks that's about 86 precious lives saved and families not plunged into mourning by mask mandates and that's not including the people who crashed a car due to covid making them see double and stuff (the "died within 28 days of a positive covid test" the anti-vaxxors like to harp on about). All smalk numbers until it's your nan!!!

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 19:48

Wow just cannot believe how unsafe your reply made me feel @notrub, I am shaking, after I thought I found some good news that even the anti-vaxxors could get behind.

@notrub basically pops on to lots of posts, insults posters, writes a load of crap then disappears on to another thread to do the same. Best to ignore!

DianaT1969 · 11/03/2021 19:56

1.8% is nothing.
15% + would have been promising.
We'll have to wait longer for real news of improvement.

mollypuss1 · 11/03/2021 20:12

Is this a bad attempt at sarcasm?

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 20:16

@mollypuss1

Is this a bad attempt at sarcasm?
What, by the CDC? You can read the link yourself.

That's 86 lives, probably, saved in England & Wales ALONE. Go and look at 100 people then pick the 14 you'd let live. Thinks what you'd say to the families of the 86. UNBELIEVABLE. What a totally horrible attitude.

OP posts:
mollypuss1 · 11/03/2021 20:24

I’ll take that as a yes then

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 20:29

Look I really don't understanmd are you saying those lives don't matter? Please explain to me what you mean. I was having a nice day and now I feel like I did something wrong, I feel shamed and like I just walked into a Donald Trump rally or something.

mollypuss1 · 11/03/2021 20:30

I can’t work out if you’re trying to be funny or sarcastic but whatever it is you’re failing at it.

ThreeFeetTall · 11/03/2021 20:34

If you crash your car because you're wearing a mask then I think you're wearing it wrong- it's meant to go over your mouth and nose not your eyes. HTH

EllaBob · 11/03/2021 20:44

It’s even better news than that OP, if you were excited before just wait till you hear this about the UK:

In January we peaked at 68k infections a day. Stricter measures and vaccinations have brought that down to around 6k per day, a 91% drop. Had the levels stayed at 68k a day, based on the average death rate, around another 80-90,000 people could have been dead by now.

So I’m totally with you. We’ve just done so well haven’t we. Brilliant that you’re so switched on to the success these measures have been :)

lljkk · 11/03/2021 20:51

OP has a point

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 20:58

Oooh do you have a link to what new measures came in and achieved that after Jan 2021 please? that's amazing!

Florelei · 11/03/2021 21:02

I’m confused. Is this genuine or is it sarcasm?

cinammonbuns · 11/03/2021 21:05

Your poor attempt at sarcasm isn’t going down well at all.

EllaBob · 11/03/2021 21:05

Of course, happy to help any arguments you might have with those moronic COVID deniers! :)

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55554550

That’s when we went into the full national lockdown, with the daily high infection numbers that I mention just a few days later and dropping ever since. It’s so great isn’t it. Well done you for recognising it.

MissConductUS · 11/03/2021 21:06

@Florelei

I’m confused. Is this genuine or is it sarcasm?
It's sarcasm.
Florelei · 11/03/2021 21:09

Thanks @MissConductUS - I have Aspergers and find it difficult to distinguish.

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 21:17

I'm confused why a 1.8% case reduction and 1.9% death decrease from asking as the CDC says on their site is considered sarcasm.

Like literally do not get it.

Thank you@EllaBob! :)
