Do we stop social distancing and masks on 21st June?

Just wondering as I'm getting mixed messages. I thought that everything was allowed to open on 21st June (providing numbers don't increase again) but social distancing and masks remain. But at our last church meeting (on zoom) the vicar was saying that the guidelines say all restrictions are ending which includes masks and social distancing so the church can open up again with no restrictions in place. I'm not sure about this. Also by then all the CEV, CV and over 60's in our church will be at least 3 weeks post 2nd vaccination on 21st June apart from my 7 year old who is CV but can't have the vaccine until it's licenced for children. There are also other adults and children who aren't CV so won't be vaccinated by then either.

The roadmap say that masks, social distancing and wfh guidance will be reviewed (hopefully) by 21st June but no guarantees it will end then.

rainbowfairydust · 11/03/2021 11:42

I think this will be hugely unfair to unvaccinated cv children... I predict the Government will acknowledge this (leaks in the news a few weeks before) and they will then say about opening everything up etc. But social distancing to stay or advised and masks indoors still until vaccines are licensed for everybody, children included.
My children aren't cv but if any were if find this insanely unfair if they were just forgotten about

notrub · 11/03/2021 11:47

It largely depends upon whether or not the government follow the scientific advice.

The advice from SAGE, which is at the weaker end when it comes to caution, is that masks/social distancing SHOULD remain in place until 2022 at the earliest.

I guess we'll see.

BellamyBells · 11/03/2021 11:48

It will not be legally enforced but definitely still advised!

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 11/03/2021 11:50

I don't think masks will stop being worn inside. Don't think they should either tbh. Not yet anyway.

PuzzledObserver · 11/03/2021 12:03

Vicar is wrong.

What the roadmap actually says is that at step 4 - no earlier than June 21st, which implies it could be later - they hope to remove all legal limits on social mixing. You will be able to mix with as many people as you want as often as you want wherever you want.

That is not the same as social distancing, masks etc. That is one of four areas which is going to be reviewed in advance of June 21st, and advice will be issued about how best to keep ourselves safe. So that could be anything from masks remaining compulsory, becoming advisory in certain situations or us being told they are not needed.

See the government document here

Particularly paragraphs 128-129 and 145.

I think it may be slightly farcical if nightclubs open with people swearing and licking each other’s faces yet we social distance and wear masks in other places no?

I think personally the reason the road map is so cautious is that they want to do away with all restrictions on June 21st.

Social distancing has a huge impact on businesses. Particularly hospitality.

Delatron · 11/03/2021 12:19

Sweating not swearing! Though they’ll be doing that too...

Racoonworld · 11/03/2021 12:31

It’s being reviewed by then, but doesn’t mean they will definitely go. It’s also not certain restrictions will be lifted on the 21st June.

However if restrictions are lifted, there’s no way social distancing and masks will stay even if they’re supposed to.

Unfortunately social distancing is causing a lot of harm mentally to a lot of people and business won't survive keeping doing this
CurbsideProphet · 11/03/2021 13:47

I would be ok with masks staying in some scenarios after June eg. when I go to Specsavers every other year eye tests are done in small rooms with no windows, and they bring some of the equipment quite close.
After June it would also be sensible if hospitals / health centres / out patient departments carried out preventing patients from bring their entire family along for a day out, taking up half of the seats.

Beaniecats · 11/03/2021 13:49

Unless Whitty sticks his oar in which bluntly is likely
I was optimistic at first that's what would happen on 29 June but feeling increasingly less so. Whitty doesn't want it to be over

Bollocks it is.

Stay at home orders maybe, but nobody's mental health is affected by wearing a mask, or not being able to go clubbing.

How do you categorically know that?

Oh and you know this ? People like you with that attitude is why we have a mental health crisis !!

Beaniecats · 11/03/2021 14:02

I miss going to the cinema, or a drive out and visit somewhere
Work can't open offices because of social distancing mandate so all wfh in isolation
Just thinking today how utterly shit it is. I have to take time off work to use up leave and dreading it

PuzzledObserver · 11/03/2021 14:11

Not being able to meet up at all is hard for almost everyone.

Being able to meet 2 households or up to six people will make a massive difference to most, but some will still struggle if they’re not allowed to go to festivals or football matches.

Most people’s mental health will not be damaged by wearing a mask - some might be. I don’t know anyone who actually enjoys wearing a mask, I know I don’t. But if that’s what makes it possible for me to attend concerts and so on, I’ll do it.

I didn't even say wearing a mask causes mental health so don't know why the other poster said that , social distancing is though and mental health is through the roof no matter what the "stats" say !

I feel the same and the longer it goes on the worse it gets
nordica · 11/03/2021 14:29

The timing of it does seem unfair if it's before everyone who wants a vaccine has been offered the opportunity to have it.

It's also hard to imagine it really - on June 20th we'll be in masks and social distancing and the day after everything is back to 2019 style normality?

My mental health is affected by people not being able to go clubbing. If people can’t go clubbing I can’t earn money which means I can’t pay my bills. That consequently affects my mental health and last time I looked I wasn’t ‘nobody’.

Are you kidding? You really think that not being able to hug anyone isn’t impacting people’s mental health? It was awful not being able to give my mum a hug last time I saw her.

CovidHalloween · 11/03/2021 14:35

Anyone thinking social distancing and masks will end on 21st must have been living under a rock for the last year or as a hermit or as an isolated tribe deep in the amazon.

LucyMaxwellDM · 11/03/2021 14:39

When nightclubs reopen social distancing and mask wearing must end. Otherwise nightclubs cannot reopen.

LucyMaxwellDM · 11/03/2021 14:40

In fact, social distancing needs to end so dance classes can go back to normal otherwise there will be very few dance schools that survive this pandemic.
