Non mask wearing parents being required to drop off later

An article in our local paper was about a local school that’s said that non mask wearing parents and required to drop off and pick up at different times. The drop off is later I’m not sure if pick up is later or earlier. One man was complaining it was discriminatory to his wife but lots of people were in favour. The man said it was an attempt to shame people into wearing masks. Is it fair on people that are genuinely exempt? Will their children feel singled out or is it actually beneficial to them as they will be safer as they are dropping off/ picking up at a quieter time. My child has asd and we often had late drop off/ early pick ups when he was in mainstream and this was viewed as a reasonable adjustment rather than being discrimination.

That child could be the last to leave if they have to be escorted to the gate. That is different from giving a different arrival and leaving time.

ShrewYou · 07/03/2021 13:48

I think it would draw more attention to the child if instead of waiting for the parent like every other child they have to walk to the gate with the teacher. Confused And in the morning you would have to take the whole class out with you! Unless you are suggesting that they get dropped off early which you can't be as having different times is what you are trying to avoid.

Imagine if the original post was 'unmasked parents not allowed to enter school property.'

The point being there are other doable options which the person who cannot wear a mask may prefer. Unless what people are only interested in is shaming people.

@peak2021

I was in Germany in September. Face coverings were worn on the trains, buses and enclosed spaces such as shops without exception. I accept that our air quality in some cities and towns and so asthma is more prevalent in the UK, but not that much more.
Germany (as all European countries) has exemptions. Just because you didn't see an exempt person doesn't mean they don't exist.

And asthma is by no means the only reason why people are exempt.

Honestly, same old crap trotted out on every mask thread without fail.

Even SAGE have stated that they don't think masks actually do anything. The mask wearing policy is purely so people feel protected. It is a load of ole bollocks! Pay attention next time you are wearing your mask. You can feel the air being sucked in and blown out through the top/sides etc. Fair enough if you have a proper medical mask on this may do something but your average sweaty, dirty, flappy mask with do sweet FA.

notrub · 07/03/2021 14:15

This is a typical example of a ridiculous rule that then jeopardises other sensible ones.

There is no point whatsoever in wearing a mask in your car if the only occupants are members of your household.

In an ideal world, you carry a mask with you and put it on whenever you enter a situation where you are going to be within 2m of someone, which would include all non-home indoor settings.

The problem with rules like the OP is that people quite rightly think this is stupid, and then go on to believe that ALL mask rules are stupid, in the same way that people use extreme (and incorrect) applications of H&S rules as an argument that ALL H&S rules are absurd.

TOTAL BOLLOCKS

There is now concrete evidence that masks confer a benefit from side by side comparisons done in the USA on regions that implemented mask rules and regions that didn't.

Why does it have to be so dramatic as 'singling children out'

I would just say to my children they are going in 5 minutes later because I can't wear a mask. Tell them this helps keep everyone safer.

Why on earth have we become so precious that we can't just explain things to our children.

Everything is taken as a personal slight isn't it? Swap it round then? Oh. Your kids feel like they are treated differently because they are in earlier now? Can't win. Hmm

What are the other options?

@PTW1234

I would say it was a reasonable adjustment. It’s probably more of a headache for the school to accommodate children coming in later than others (potentially also letting them stay later too).

If people are medically exempt from wearing masks then they are much more likely to be more vulnerable from the virus, so dropping off when less people and it’s easier to distance makes sense

I don't agree. Masks Arent needed outdoors.

Merinocool · 07/03/2021 23:30

Ours are drop off later and pick up later for anyone not wearing masks. Masks will be given for anyone who has forgotten.
