This morning I have been able to book my DH his two appointments on the NHS site.
It wouldn’t let me yesterday.
To all those waiting, try every day.

However, you’ll need to have it at some point and face whatever risks there are. It’s better for you and for society overall to have it sooner.

It's the side effects of the side effects that bother me, not side effects themselves. I have to work to very strict deadlines that don't shift because of illness.

I fully intend to get the vaccine, but not just yet. I think the resultant risk to me and society because of the delay is minimal. I have had Covid and I rarely leave the house/garden (once since Christmas).

Snooper22 · 05/03/2021 11:50

My DP is 59 and booked today but hasn't had a confirmation yet? Does it take a while to come through?

Snooper22 · 05/03/2021 11:54

Its actually just been confirmed along with a Second appointment

irregularegular · 05/03/2021 12:19

And interesting Irregular, how many posts from other people you have need to feel reassured about it all.

Huh? Once people started telling me that the website never ever gets overloaded, at least in their experience, I didn't quibble.

And I am willing to take on trust that even though there is a constraint on the number of vaccines available the system is leaving enough spaces available for priority groups while still allowing slightly younger people to book. That would indeed be sensible!

I'm very pro vaccination by the way! I don't need reassurance about that...

(I have seen some news stories about vaccine booking website crashes but they are fairly old and some may be about more local systems, it is not entirely clear)

Piccalillies · 05/03/2021 13:18

It’s not working for me or DH (both 56). Is it just 59s that can now book, has anyone younger had success?

Abraxan · 05/03/2021 13:46

@irregularegular

"Who can use this service You can only use this service if any of the following apply:

you are aged 60 or over
you are at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
you are an eligible frontline health or social care worker
you have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
you are a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus
You also need to be registered with a GP surgery in England to use this service. You can register with a GP if you do not have one.

Find out more about who is eligible to have a coronavirus vaccination.

If you are not eligible yet
Wait to be contacted. The NHS will let you know when it's your turn to have the vaccine. It's important not to contact the NHS for a vaccination before then."

Really unhelpful and selfish to have those who are not eligible overloading the system by logging in multiple times a day!!! My DH is 60 in May and will wait to be contacted like any other considerate person. He has just made sure that his contact details are up to date at the GP.

If he is 60 why on earth would you wait to be contacted and waste valuable go time, when he is eligible to use the national website and a vaccination hub, unless there are reasons he cannot do so.

Using the national site as soon as able is important and efficient.

The site front page often doesn't update for a few days after it opens.

Most nhs trusts and even the department for health all have tweeted to tell people to use the national site as soon as they are eligible, many have posted to say that lower ages are now eligible before the front page is updated. Are the government and nhs pages all irresponsible too?

NeedWineNow · 05/03/2021 13:57

Just booked both of mine via the website. I'm 58 in West Kent - mine's in Sevenoaks.

Boiledeggandtoast · 05/03/2021 14:00

Many thanks OP. I was able to book today (aged 59) after being turned down last week when I tried.

starfro · 05/03/2021 14:07

Some centres are having to throw stock away and are wasting time as numbers aren't at capacity.

It's selfish to not book a vaccination if it will let you, as you're delaying everyone else and wasting vaccine.

Book if it will let you.

BigWoollyJumpers · 05/03/2021 14:15

OMG - DH just tried to book following this thread - straight in, vaccine in 10 days time - he's only 56 🙂

WaterGarden · 05/03/2021 14:16

Good news

DPotter · 05/03/2021 14:16

Thanks for the tip off - tried last week with no joy, but just booked both. Next Friday for the 1st one

RevolutionRadio · 05/03/2021 14:21

I booked this morning for a family member who is 59.

I just thought I would try on the off chance and it worked!

Moominmamma5 · 05/03/2021 14:27

I have managed to get through to book today, I'm 41.I have no idea why as I have no health conditions. My Dh is ECV and has already been vaccinated.

WaterGarden · 05/03/2021 14:32

That's good. You probably live in an area where they are ahead and needing to full spaces with younger people. I know some places are very ahead

BookWorm45 · 05/03/2021 14:35

Booked for a family member who is 56, worked with no problems at all. Must be per postcode as said up thread where they have capacity. However the first available slot is in about 3 weeks

Piccalillies · 05/03/2021 14:57

I have now booked DH and I (both 56) but friend who is 55 can't book.

nessnessness · 05/03/2021 15:13

Thanks OP - just booked our 1st and 2nd vaccination appointments (57).

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/03/2021 15:25

57, just managed to book in Sheffield. I’m the one that tried ‘10 times’ a day. It was my 7th try!

DinosaurDiana · 05/03/2021 15:29

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Well done everyone - the more the merrier !
For everyone else - keep trying 🤞🏻

friendlycat · 05/03/2021 16:04

Wow thank you so much for this. I've just managed to book my first vaccination for next Sunday 14th and the 2nd one for June. Age 57. I tried it for my partner who is 3 years younger and it wouldn't let me do his yet. But this is great. Thank you so much for the heads up on this.

ExpulsoCorona · 05/03/2021 21:37

The website has now updated to say 56 and above

Decorhate · 05/03/2021 21:49

I had not seen this thread but I had a heads up from a friend earlier that they were letting under 60s book even though it was still saying over 60s at that stage & (with a few difficulties) managed to get an appointment- I’m 56

OneMillionSteps · 05/03/2021 21:54

Thanks OP! Just booked mine online - I’m 57

MRex · 05/03/2021 21:59

The site says over 56 can book online now.

I have an appointment either as group 6, or because one site in my area is running ahead, don't care why. Happy to have it. DH is slightly younger and can't book yet, also a chance he could be included as group 6 but that looks less likely as time goes on.
