This morning I have been able to book my DH his two appointments on the NHS site.
It wouldn’t let me yesterday.
To all those waiting, try every day.

My letter has just come through the door.

It must have been posted before they updated the age on the website.

peak2021 · 06/03/2021 14:07

Thank you @DinosaurDiana as I have booked mine now.

CrocodilesCry · 06/03/2021 14:19

Just booked DH (he's 56) - the website does now state it's for 56 and over.

If you don't know your NHS number and you're in England you can look it up here: www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/online-services/find-nhs-number/

MouthAche · 06/03/2021 14:25

Believe it went active today for alot of people.

You do not have to wait for a letter or text

wsereab · 06/03/2021 14:27

59 year old relative got invite letter this morning, logged in and vaccine booked for next Sat.

JaninaDuszejko · 06/03/2021 14:40

@JaquelineBeanstalk

I thinks it’s just England? Can’t book in NI or Wales just yet, not sure about Scotland.
Can't book online in Scotland, the system there is rubbish in comparison. MIL has a friend who missed her phonecall, called back and was offered one miles away when there was terrible snow and took weeks to finally get offered a slot she could make. MIL is currently trying to contact her GPs to change her contact number to her mobile so she doesn't miss the invite to her second jab (she's in her 80s so got her first jab mid Jan), they don't answer the phone and she can't find their email address. I think she's going to have to write them a letter!
Bouledeneige · 07/03/2021 09:56

I'm 56 and. I got a text from my GP on Friday and I'm booked in this evening.

Madcats · 08/03/2021 12:03

Good news! Not only could I book online today (I am 55) but DH and I both received texts from our GP allowing us to book this weekend.

So I've a 5 minute walk.

They must have a huge batch coming this week

JaninaDuszejko · 08/03/2021 18:13

The age has now changed to over 55 and over on the NHS page. I'm 50 and getting very excited now!

Catford · 08/03/2021 18:45

Me too JaninaDuszejko. I'm 50 too and it's getting closer.

EternalOptimist7 · 08/03/2021 18:48

I heard it was 56 - 59. DH is 57 so has had his invitation but I’m 55 so will need to wait 😢

Good news, it dropped to 55 today. Book!

My DH is 60 in May and will wait to be contacted like any other considerate person

There are two parallel queues - the mass vaccination centres/national booking service, which you book via the website, and the local GP call up system. You can book via the website first, because they have more slots available. There is nothing wrong with people checking if they are able to access the system, because eligibility will vary by area, depending on how quickly the mass centres are getting through the priority groups.

Your GP will call up any patients in priority groups who have not had the vaccine elsewhere. This obvious takes time, as it’s labour-intensive, and there will be a lot of housebound/frail patients who couldn’t get to a mass vaccination centre.

My DM waited to be called by her GP (because she can walk to the GP, but would have r to take public transport to our local mass vaccination centre, and this was back in late Jan when case numbers were higher). They called her three weeks after she could have booked an appointment via the website.

If people want to wait for their GP to ring them, of course they can. But it uses more resources, and there is nothing “selfish” about using the website instead - it is what you are meant to do. Or it wouldn’t exist.

WombatChocolate · 08/03/2021 19:19

Fastest way for most people is to book via the National Site. You don’t need a letter to arrive inviting you personally. If you wait for that you’ll be jabbed around a week after people who just looks at the website. The website lists those eligible. They do NOT need a letter, just to meet the criteria.

Plus, as many people know, the system itself often starts adding extra age groups before the front page updates. Today 54 and 55 year olds found they could book although it said 56+. A few hours later it says 55+ are eligible.

If you want the jab as fast as poss (and that’s not jumping the queue....the system won’t let you book if not eligible) then look at the website every couple of days.....and when it showing an age a couple of years above your own, just try inputting your details and you might well be able to book, perfectly legitimately.

The faster people book, the faster the queue moves.

Government knows some people won’t book until the webpage updates or until they get a letter or until they get phoned by the GP, or unless they get phoned 6 times. It has measures in place to scoop up the keen and the not so keen. The sooner you book and with the need for less contact, the less resources it uses and the faster you get jabbed and others further down the queue do too.

Spacie · 09/03/2021 14:18

57 years old. The letter came yesterday. The nearest hub is 20 miles away and in a different county and the next appointment there was 25th March.

Text last night from local NHS saying vaccines will be available locally "very soon" and not to book at the hub.

Text this morning from GP inviting me to book locally. Got an appointment at 3.30 this afternoon.

TheDogsMother · 09/03/2021 14:22
  1. I was phoned two weeks ago, had the vaccination on Saturday then received the NHS letter yesterday.
VeryScary · 10/03/2021 16:19
  1. Got a text yesterday saying I could book and booked straight away. First jab next week, second in June. Hooray!
LilacsFreesias · 10/03/2021 16:32

50 got text today from GP. So did two 53 year old friends. All 3 booked in next thursday at local GP hub. I checked the national site this morning and it said not eligible. East Surrey

Keep trying the website, but remember to clear any cookies before putting in your details.

Bluegalaxy · 10/03/2021 18:08

Got a text from my GP today - booked in for Friday (I'm 52- national website said I wasn't eligible yet)

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 10/03/2021 20:43

Our GPs say they have now contacted (or tried to contact) all of groups 1-6 and will start on group 7 shortly. Anyone who has not been contacted in those groups can call the GP - must be a relief for anyone in group 6 who is still uncertain.

The GP hub has been closed a lot recently and is only doing part of next week so I am quite surprised how far they have got. Groups 7 and 8 have the choice to book online too so I suspect they will whizz through everyone else in those groups, especially once the supply increases again.

Watching for when it opens up to the 40s (47!!)

Me too tootyfruitypickle. DH (56) has his on Sunday and I can't wait to be called (48). I reckon it should be within a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile my 63 year old school teacher mum hasn’t had hers yet because Scotland are making a massive balls up of it
