Last Day of Remote Learning - Celebrate with Me

manicinsomniac · 05/03/2021 08:21

Woohoo! It's so nearly over. I have 7 lessons today, including my hardest one of the week, plus a zoom meeting and my first ever dreaded LF test but I don't even care. I'm too excited! Goodbye online learning! GrinGrinGrin

Anybody want to celebrate? What will you be doing? I have virtual medals for my younger classes (my older classes would roll their eyes too hard!) and some Games to play. Tonight I have a cake and party games for my own children. Even the 18 year old will be forced to join in! Wink (there's a chance I may be more childishly excited than all 3 of them!)

It feels a bit like the end of lockdown to me. I know it's both and everything else is still shit but it's a ray of hope and the return to a semblance of a life.

Anyone else excited? Roll on Monday!

We in Wales have another week to go yet.

huggzy · 05/03/2021 17:34

I'm going to miss it!

Although I know it's easy for me to say as we've had the 'best of both worlds.' I've had one child in secondary school full time due to his additional needs and EHCP. Then my younger child has been going to school 2-3 days a week when I'm at work. So 2-3 days of remote learning. She's been so good, the lessons set have been great, live lessons are lovely, and she's usually done around lunch time so we have the afternoon free. It's been nice having time alone with her.

We are celebrating with a party tea this evening though.

Did my last Zoom (I hope forever) yesterday. Party atmosphere in school today when the teachers e in for LFTs. All the kids have done theirs over the course of this week do sll back in Monday.
No ‘bubbles’ should burst now that we have LFT instead -tho’ school took a pragmatic approach last term and only closest contacts had to isolate so was basically only a handful of children SI and no staff.
Only irksome thing is high level of false positives with LFT.

VaVaGloom · 05/03/2021 17:57

So pleased this has come to an end. Getting reluctant primary DC to engage has been hard work. Secondary DC not in school until the following week but that is a doddle to deal with compared to supervising the younger one.

I am looking forward to work on Monday without someone distracting me. Big well done to all us parents who have made it through homeschooling!

Sorry but this is totally inaccurate. Bubbles WILL burst because anyone who tests positive on an LFT will get it confirmed and then contacts from the previous day will have to isolate. And that’s if they even take the LFT - lots won’t.

And there is not a very high rate of false positives. At all. It’s a very high rate of false negatives (60%) which means that 6 in 10 people will test negative who have Covid and will go to school so again, bubbles will burst.

QuidditchQueen · 06/03/2021 10:38

No - contacts of the ‘positive’ LFT do not have to isolate, mercifully. They take. consecutive days LFT tests. And the false posy is 1/200 pf those tested, not of the ‘positive’ number.
So parents who cannot self-isolate as their jobs and homes areon the line will probably not be diligent in taking the tests -just report them as negative and you N hardly blame them. Not everyone has a cosy secure public sector job where you can just down tools with no consequences.

noblegiraffe · 06/03/2021 10:50

Quidditch that is not generally true. In the vast majority of schools, close contacts of positive LFTs will have to isolate as normal.

They are running a trial in 200 secondary schools only where close contacts will not isolate but will do daily testing. If you're not one of the trial schools, it's isolation.

Some schools sent out outdated letters from January as well, which has confused things.

Piggywaspushed · 06/03/2021 10:55

Where did you get that info from quidditch because unless you are in one of the -very few- pilot school it isn't correct.

I don't think your sneering at public sector workers is particularly kind, true or relevant. Isolating for covid reasons is hardly 'downing tools'.

They have to in my school.

Positive LFT...bubble bursts until PCR result.

Theimpossiblegirl · 06/03/2021 11:07

It seems the strategy of lies and confusion is working.
Schools are safe. Lateral flow tests will make them safe. Vaccination makes everyone in schools safe (even though most people in schools aren't vaccinated). Teachers are at no more risk than anyone else. Children don't spread the virus.
I wonder how many times this has to be repeated to make it true. It's like a dystopian novel but sadly true.

QuidditchQueen · 06/03/2021 11:08

That’s the info we were given yesterday when we went in in the LFTs - don’t know if it is because we are a trial school or because the info is outdated ☹️☹️
Above my paygrade - will check with school - thank you for the heads up.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/03/2021 11:28

Teachers are at no more risk than anyone else.

This week's React study showed twice as likely to have it. That's not 'die of it', but have it. It's clearly going to mean bubbles closing and so on. I'm not dismantling my WFH desk yet!
