Last Day of Remote Learning - Celebrate with Me

manicinsomniac · 05/03/2021 08:21

Woohoo! It's so nearly over. I have 7 lessons today, including my hardest one of the week, plus a zoom meeting and my first ever dreaded LF test but I don't even care. I'm too excited! Goodbye online learning! GrinGrinGrin

Anybody want to celebrate? What will you be doing? I have virtual medals for my younger classes (my older classes would roll their eyes too hard!) and some Games to play. Tonight I have a cake and party games for my own children. Even the 18 year old will be forced to join in! Wink (there's a chance I may be more childishly excited than all 3 of them!)

It feels a bit like the end of lockdown to me. I know it's both and everything else is still shit but it's a ray of hope and the return to a semblance of a life.

Anyone else excited? Roll on Monday!

I'm still teaching some live lessons next week because of the roll-out of testing in secondary schools meaning a staggered start.

But at least I won't be wrangling my own kids at the same time. So yes, today is a good day. We're having Dominos later to celebrate.

Globe22 · 05/03/2021 10:07

Celebrating here!

BogRollBOGOF · 05/03/2021 10:59

I'd love to celebrate but I have a banging headache-probably tension release.
Still the DS1 battle to go.
And zoom karate later...

PumpkinPie2016 · 05/03/2021 11:23

I'm celebrating tooGlitterball

Fed up of talking to a screen all day! I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing my classes again.

It's still not entirely normal as we have bubbles etc but at least we'll be in the school!

My son is Y2 and has been in as a key worker child throughout but he is looking forward to seeing his friends who haven't been in.

Kids definitely need to be in school!

manicinsomniac · 05/03/2021 11:27

That does actually sound like a really interesting group of children to work with, MrsKeats . It's definitely not for me but I'm really glad there's options out there to suit everyone.

Hope you feel better soon BogRoll I'm not sure Zoom Karaoke is going to help ...Wink

Yay Smile

And even if a bubble were to burst and some pupils might need to isolate for a short time, most pupils will be back at school for some time at least until the end of term. They definitely need to be back!

Champagneandmonstermunch · 05/03/2021 11:36

So lovely to see a teacher that is so excited to get back in the classroom! DS has just done his last bit of work, and I am so glad that he will be back in school, where he needs to be, next week!

Every teacher I know (a lot! Us teachers seem to migrate together) is excited to be going back.
AfternoonToffee · 05/03/2021 13:17

Yes I am so pleased. The big two not back until Wednesday.

DS has been going in a couple of times a week, the difference it makes to me working is massive

Januaryissodull · 05/03/2021 13:18

We had a Greggs lunch to celebrate.

In a way I'm going to miss the dc, for lots of reasons this lockdown hasn't been as tough on us as the last one, but they need to be back in school. Phonics this morning was enough to give me a reality check.

Well done everyone, parents and teachers alike.

We made it and I'm sure that everyone has done a fabulous job.

Totallyfedup1979 · 05/03/2021 13:20

I just can’t wait to see my family again from Monday 15th! (Wales) Whoop!

bathsh3ba · 05/03/2021 13:31

Mine aren't in till Wednesday but we already have a countdown going on! They are both really looking forward to seeing their friends again and just being somewhere other than home, and I am looking forward to being able to work in peace again!

Abraxan · 05/03/2021 13:33

I'm in the other side.

I've been home overseeing and managing our remote learning for 8 weeks. It's been a lot of work, long hours.

I've now had my first vaccine last week and I'm now looking forward to seeing people in real life on Monday. It'll be nice to teach children again and be lovely to see my colleagues - who have all been working ft in school this term.

I'm hopeful for fewer bubble closures and self isolation this time round too - approx 75% of staff got covid in the autumn term, along with several families/children, plus the staff are all testing twice a week. so fingers crossed ...

I've posted our very last lockdown remote learning lessons this morning. Just the afternoon of certificates and celebration assembly to go on. And then that's it!

peak2021 · 05/03/2021 13:34

I have no school age children.

I know several work colleagues who are celebrating. One is concerned not to be hit by flying champagne corks on Monday!

flumposie · 05/03/2021 14:05

Yesterday was my last day of teaching from home. Daughter currently having her final assembly via teams. Hooray.

Incogweeto · 05/03/2021 14:11

A big group of kids from DD's class are getting together this afternoon (half day school) for a big movie and popcorn session to celebrate the end of homeschool. At least 12 kids. DD was invited ('They'll all be together from Monday anyway') but didn't want to go as she knows it's against the rules.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 05/03/2021 14:24

Im happy for my child, but from a selfish point of view I will miss him being around all the time 😢

manicinsomniac · 05/03/2021 16:19

Aaaaaand, I'm done! Grin (I actually got a bit emotional waving the last class off Teams - God knows why, I can't stand the invention!)

Well done everyone who's finished - teacher, parent or child. All the best for those with a few days to go. You'll make it!

Every teacher I know (a lot! Us teachers seem to migrate together) is excited to be going back

Yes, definitely. Me too. I'm aware of a few online who are worried and wobbly about it but none I know personally. And I'm pretty sure those that are worried still want to be back - they're just nervous about safety.

Me too. We've got a good little routine at the moment and it will feel strange next week.

Yes, this is true. I think it's easy to overestimate how keen children are to get back to school too. Most of them definitely want to come back in my experience, and they really do need to be back. But there's is definitely reluctance to leave their safe, home routines now for some. Things have heard today are:
I'll miss cuddling my cat during lessons
I'll miss going for a walk with mummy at lunchtime
I'll miss eating in class
I don't want to get up so early
I don't want to wear my uniform
I'm sure they'll get back into the swing of everything really quickly though. And I'm sure adults at home will start appreciating the alone time pretty soon too - whether it's to work in peace, adult in peace or just chill out!

The dc on school platform seem really happy and excited to be going back.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/03/2021 16:47

I don't want to wear my uniform

DD(7) put her uniform on today through choice. Confused Strange little thing! Grin

manicinsomniac · 05/03/2021 17:18

Awww, that's sweet BeingATwatt One little girl in one of my Year 3 classes wore full uniform all the time for all lessons for the first couple of weeks in Jan - then I guess the novelty wore off!

OP posts:
BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/03/2021 17:20

@manicinsomniac
I think some people put their children in uniform for home schooling to distinguish between learning time and down time. I can see how that might benefit some children. DD wanted to do her home learning in PJs. I let her spend most of lockdown 1 in PJs because she was never on zoom. Not this time though. Grin

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/03/2021 17:24

Yep. I've planned nothing for Monday.. chat, draw, chat... and if I want to I can just teach something starting with an empty whiteboard. Like wot teaching should be.
