Vaccine numbers and it feeling further and further away

DareIask · 03/03/2021 13:27

I don't really want to berate what is clearly a massive job that has so far been amazingly well delivered, but I'm feeling a little despondent.

Numbers of jabs are not increasing and now they're on to second doses too, meaning the new doses are going to be less.

A month ago I was hearing almost daily of friends and family being called... now no one, just us waiting.

Any positive comments? I really want the numbers to continue, if not rise.

BTW I'm late 50s so maybe it just feels worse because it's near, but not near enough.

Forgot the link (press data tab for figures)

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/vaccinations

DareIask · 03/03/2021 14:16

Weirdly my husband had his a fortnight ago though and he's 59... which is another reason why it feels different right now.

Anyway... I will be patient. And grateful.

I'm 60, booked mine on Monday and had it yesterday. 2nd jab booked for may. DH is 59 with a heart issue, he had his on Monday.

I don't suppose you'll have that much longer to wait before your first, OP.

Bluntness100 · 03/03/2021 14:18

This is a bit odd. Every day hundreds of thousands of people are vaccinated. Yes some days are Lower than others. You can’t force people to book in.

Personally I think they need to open it up wider and get the slots filled, but there is no doubt we are world leading and every day more and more peoole get vaccinated.

SOSGB · 03/03/2021 14:19

I understand how you feel. It is hard to wait without a date booked in, no matter how far ahead. What happens is you feel despair and then out of the blue a text pops up on your phone and it feels totally unreal. If this happens book the first appointment you can see that you can make because the appointments vanish before your eyes since lots of people get a text at the same time. Also check the national booking system daily because you never know when your area or your GP will clear you for vaccination:
hs.uk/book-a-coronavirus-vaccination/do-you-have-an-nhs-number
At least it is something to do each day and doesn't harm anyone trying...

SOSGB · 03/03/2021 14:20

You will need an 'n' at the start of that link (cut and paste fail)

StarCat2020 · 03/03/2021 14:21

Which in itself is odd when in the past the weekends have been some of the better days
Not according to the Government's figures.

Even on the bar chart you can roughly see this pattern -
5 tall bars (weekdays) followed by 2 short bars (weekends)

bigbluebus · 03/03/2021 14:21

Definitely increasing capacity around here to cope with demand of doing 2nd & 1st vaccines side by side. Only this morning there was an announcement locally about the 1st hub to set up in the area being expanded to deal with the additional groups. I'm group 8 but haven't been contacted yet although they're definitely doing group 7 here as well as group 6 at the local GP led centre.

cannotfathom · 03/03/2021 14:22

If you're late fifties have you tried to book online? I know it's over 60's but I've heard of some 58/59 yr olds managing to book.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/03/2021 14:22

Personally I think they need to open it up wider and get the slots filled Didn't Hancock say last week that doing that would cause issues, a lot more work, backing and filling those that missed their slots? But that each centre SHOULD be looking at their next group if they found uptake slowing.

Of course not all types of centre get their own lists! I think there's only so much the NHS systems can be pushed and this is one of those times when a bit slower ensures nobody gets left too far behind.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/03/2021 14:23

Only if you have an underlying health issue, or are front line worker, carer etc.

It has been explained that this is due to vaccine supply not being at a constant level. It has nothing to do with a failure to book people in!
StarCat2020 · 03/03/2021 14:28

Here is the chart

Apologies for my crap coloured circles but
RED = weekend
PURPLE = weekday

(Obviously only marked it out once for each)

Correct but that isn't what the figures do not seem to show a supply discrepancy but I am willing to be corrected.

Click on the link: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

At the moment it says over 60s but in some areas it is letting people in their late 50s book. If it lets you book that means you are eligible. If you are not eligible, it will tell you. If it doesn't let you book today, try again in a few days time. You don't need to wait for the letter.

snowballer · 03/03/2021 14:36

A PP mentioned this earlier - here's the link. https://covidvax.live/location/gbr

Live count of vaccine doses given - it's reassuring to look at

DareIask · 03/03/2021 14:37

Please, don't let this turn into a vaccine programme bashing thread... it wasn't meant to be a criticism of a brilliant roll out.. more me whinging on a bad day.

I'll shut up now.

55+ is likely to be next Monday. My gp told me 40+ by the end of the month

ExpulsoCorona · 03/03/2021 14:38

@DareIask please do try the link I posted above

StarCat2020 · 03/03/2021 14:40

The best 2 days so far have been Saturday 30th Jan and Saturday 6th Feb
But may have been carried out on the Thursday or Friday as it all depends on when the information is entered into the "system" and received by the data compiling people.

Later today the figure reported will be back up nearer the 400K mark.

Thank you... not eligible 🤷‍♀️

minniemoocher · 03/03/2021 14:40

If you are able to travel, do book via the nhs website rather than your gp to keep local appointments for those who can't travel, we are booked for next week (one cv, one carer and they let me throw in a 55+ in!)

StarCat2020 · 03/03/2021 14:42

I was about to post the same thing as you posted above.

StarCat2020 · 03/03/2021 14:43
