Why do people still try to say that they don’t believe Covid exists?

Does anyone know people still spouting this nonsense?

My friend is a nurse on a COVID ward. She treated a patient who was very ill from COVID and still denied it. I'm not sure what illness the patient thought they had. Or indeed, the patient next to them who was ventilated..

Can't argue with stupid.

IAmJackieWeaver · 01/03/2021 13:02

They're all morons who I would never tire of punching

So she told you she was treating a very ill COVID patient on a COVID ward and also denied COVID. I smell something farmyard orientated in this post.

What a lovely person you are.
Shitzngiggles · 01/03/2021 13:10

@dividedwefall I think the poster meant the patient didn't believe it not the nurse.

Thanks, I misread that bit. Seemed very strange!

IAmJackieWeaver · 01/03/2021 13:12

@dividedwefall I have three friends who have lost one parent to Covid.

My mum caught it and pulled through. The nursing home she was in lost 13 residents in two weeks.

So yes, I would never tire of punching Covid deniers in the face repeatedly.

Thick as pigshit.

polyjuicepotion · 01/03/2021 13:15

My husband thinks it's just a flu and everything is a huge exaggeration.

I have shown him countless times the data comparing flu to covid deaths, the excess deaths etc etc. There is no convincing of him.

He is not stupid, nor is he terrified of it. He just likes to be difficult! Angry

FunnyWonder · 01/03/2021 13:29

DP's sister bombards us with endless 'facts' about Covid. It's just the flu. The figures are skewed. We are being controlled and manipulated. The usual. Boris Johnson has been taken over and is no more than a robot, spouting whatever his unspecified controller dictates. Have we not noticed how hollowed out he looks? Oh, and we've been warned not to get the vaccine because people are dying from it. And the nano bots of course. Funny how she's prepared to believe the spurious data associated with this nonsense, but none of the data about Covid transmission. She's so bloody smug and sure of herself. And apparently the fact she's a nurse lends weight to her argument. Eh?

Flu. Sheeple. Nano bots. Plandemic. The vocabulary is all there. Repeated in endless, hypnotic rotation. And WE'RE the gullible ones sleepwalking into mind control? My views exactly @Anna12345678910 sounds like a cult to me.

Thankfully we live a very long road and ferry journey from her.

TheSunIsStillShining · 01/03/2021 13:40

on a different forum there are is a group of us who have been chatting for about 12 years now. It turns out that 2 ppl in the group are active covid deniers. Just from today:
"if they wouldn't test there would be no pandemic!" in a very told you so manner, as always.

sleepwouldbenice · 01/03/2021 13:55

@DavidsSchitt

"I think those who think the government's reaction over the last year (closing schools, crippling businesses, arresting people for walking on the beach, making it ILLEGAL to visit your family, creating a campaign of fear, dishonesty) are 'lacking in thinking skills', 'are stupid', 'are nuts', 'are genuinely of low intelligence', 'are unable to understand the most basic science'"

Eh?

Think they were just proving the point that everyone has mentioned

As others have said, can't teach stupid. Although it's getting very annoying and boring now

Anon778833 · 01/03/2021 14:11

@dividedwefall

What do you mean, ‘farmyard related?’

It’s well known at this point that medical staff are having to deal with patients, some of whom are dying of Covid who still refuse to believe it exists.

Yeah, sorry. That's what I meant!!

My friend very much believes in and has seen the devastating impact of COVID.

The patient who had it didn't believe they had it.

Apologies for the ambiguity in my post!!!

Anon778833 · 01/03/2021 14:22

The very ill people who have it and don’t believe it must be in denial.

They haven't said anything. Makes no sense. "Those who think the governments reaction"....what?

*has been rational and proportional

I think @dividedwefall thinks COVID-19 related restrictions have been unnecessary?

Somethingkindaoooo · 01/03/2021 15:24

To people saying it is just stupidity...

I'm NOT a denier, bu the way.. but a close relative is.

The thing is, where they live, ( rural/ isolated) there are no cases. Like- none.
I've argued til I'm blue that their experience isn't the same as in other areas of the world. Still- the town she lives in is being economically decimated. Small businesses closing/ being run into bankruptcy but there are no cases.

I think, when your livelihood is in danger, it us easy to be bitter, and believe bonkers theories.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 01/03/2021 15:27

We have a denier in my extended family.

She has moderately severe mental health problems, and doesn't cope with life very well anyway. It's sad.

She's the only one I know, thank goodness!

TheCuriousMonkey · 01/03/2021 15:39

The only Covid denier I know is my six year old who claims it's really vampires. I think he has watched a bit too much Doctor Who.

I think he knows deep down that's not true, but it does make for a fun game.

Haffiana · 01/03/2021 15:39

@CheeseJalapenoBread

Because they’re utterly terrified by the randomness of the world and it gives them comfort to think that (a) it’s not really happening and (b) someone, somewhere, is actually in control of it all.
This. It is the same reason that people believe in God or gods.

Conspiracy Theorists are deeply religious because it is all a belief system quite separate from logic and reality. They also enjoy the feeling of being the special, chosen ones Who Can See The Truth.

NotSeenBulling · 01/03/2021 15:44

They are thick as shit basically. It has taken me a lot of years to realise that far more people than I thought and hoped, are actually on a spectrum of being merely stupid to full on psycopath with every level of stupidity and nastiness somewhere in between.

Intelligence and common sense seem to be gone from life.

ScrumptiousBears · 01/03/2021 18:04
@ScrumptiousBears What does he think his brother died of?
Well apparently he changed his stance slightly and said yes Covid is about but it's not nearly as back as the government make out. 🙄

itsgettingwierd · 01/03/2021 18:10

Oh yea the "do your own research"

Always from people who are denying certain aspects of it and think because you don't agree you've not researched.

What they mean is read the conspiracy theory threads I have - not the scientific papers 🤣

I know - the 'do your own research and wake up' posting of some is particularly clueless

There are a lot of seemingly normal people who are so poorly educated that everything that happens is a mystery to them. They don't know how those little people get into the TV or why boats float on water while bricks don't.

They are given explanations for these things by parents or teachers which they memorise without understanding. They lack the ability to evaluate that information and fit it in with what they already knew.

The world must be a bewildering place for them full of people using words and concepts they don't recognise and maybe that's why many of them are so angry.

Not sure how they got that way, but it's a concern how many of them there are.
