Why do people still try to say that they don’t believe Covid exists?

Does anyone know people still spouting this nonsense?

@dividedwefallI have three friends who have lost one parent to Covid.

My mum caught it and pulled through. The nursing home she was in lost 13 residents in two weeks.

So yes, I would never tire of punching Covid deniers in the face repeatedly.

I'm sorry for your losses but that doesnt make what you are saying okay

I think some get sucked into following some of the alleged experts online and then this becomes their reality and only source of news. They only share like minded stuff so it just feeds off itself. Those that follow them feel a certain smugness that they are not 'sheeple' and that they are the clever ones that truly understand what is going on. Most of the 'experts' pushing this stuff are from a scientific background so sound credible but they are not necessarily medically qualified or with expertise in public health, virology or immunology. They are almost always mostly interested in self promotion by increasing their own following because they have a book or product to sell. It's true brainwashing and it is shameful and dangerous.

Also OP, I think most believe Covid exists but they believe it's not a serious illness and is being used to control us. Lots of talk about 'The Great Reset' and The World Economic Forum, also it's all a big plan with all governments big pharma in on it.

Lack of intelligence, poor unbringing and the crap they get sucked into online basically. They care only for themselves, anything outside of their little bubble isn't real.

Bluewavescrashing · 01/03/2021 20:28

They'll soon change their tune when someone they love gets the virus and is really unwell or sadly dies.

Embarrassingly my aunt, uncle and my cousins are all going to refuse. 1 cousin "might" let them vaccinate her if the Gp let's her choose which exact vaccine she gets.
She has said nobody has died of Covid. It's on the searh certificate, but it's never the cause of death.

I'm so frustrated with them.
I'm part of a vaccine trial I know it doesn't give me a moral high ground but I just want to shake them !!

My PIL's. Both have a tendency to follow fads and go down some interesting rabbit holes. Initially they were saying covid was being blown out of proportion (but still were worried enough to insist on youngest BIL and his gf flying home from their OE). They were saying it was just like a flu. We pointed out flu can still be deadly but they
also insist flu isn't really a big deal because neither of them have ever had it badly (but they can't reconcile that with me being hospitalized for it, and DH and DD almost had to be also).
Now they're all about the vaccine conspiracies. They sent an email to all the family with a video containing very odd theories, none of which had any evidence to back up the claims and basically saying it was a form of genocide. They ended the email by asking us all to forward it on to everyone know because the governments need to see this before they vaccinate everyone.
DH and his brothers all responded saying it was a load of nonsense and they need to think carefully and consider the impact of their actions before sending things like that out.
I genuinely think that for them they can't quite comprehend it all because their lives have been so very minimally impacted by covid. They live and work from their own home in a small village in a country that has had almost no community covid cases, and certainly none where they are.
They can't believe DH and I are still wfh, impacted by changing local restrictions etc, and we're in a different country but still have a very tight rein on covid and almost no community cases.
Their world is comparatively quite small and closed so they don't really have the need to critically consider the information or evaluate their actions as much.

I don’t know anyone in RL like this - at all.

The answer to your question seems to be social media. Practically every post here is referring to FB or Twitter etc. Those are not regulated news outlets and anyone who uses them as a primary source of information I s going to read a lot of fake news and miss key information. One of many many issues with social media.

Yes, it’s like those —idiots— people who think that they can ignore lockdown and open their businesses by using the Magna Carta. They just automatically believe it without even checking the veracity.

And yet, the rest of us are sheep.

I don't think that this is always necessarily true. There are lots of factors that influence why people have a mistrust of those in authority. I have a family member who is intelligent and well brought up but due to a personal experience has a deep mistrust of the medical profession and those in authority. If you are listening to people online that reinforce this view then it becomes entrenched almost like a form of brainwashing. I have been down the rabbit hole myself in order to try and understand their point of view and it is actually surprising and frightening how many professional, well educated people including are followers of this stuff on Twitter.
