Just had an email that says Chester races are hoping to go ahead in early May with up to 5000 people there.Shows what power the racing world has over covid
I can't believe that's OK.
Plus the Euros are scheduled for summer with attendance seemingly oked by the powers that be.

Yey I can't wait

towers14 · 25/02/2021 16:52

Woop woop🎉

Loopyloututu2 · 25/02/2021 16:53

We’ve just bought tickets for Leeds festival. Can’t wait!

Seriouslymole · 25/02/2021 16:54

Very much hoping that Dogfest takes place!!

Dotinthecity · 25/02/2021 16:58

Sounds fab. Lots of lovely things to book for the summer! 😄 🎉

Katie517 · 25/02/2021 17:05

If the vaccine rollout continues at the same pace why wouldn’t the events go ahead? What exactly would we be waiting for? A summer full of events is exactly what we need!

Jo99996 · 25/02/2021 17:10

Whilst a summer full of events would be nice, I cant see it.

The schools reopening will be a shit show as hysteria will reign (remember we follow the hysteria not the science now) and as soon as cases start to rise the media will jump on it and the Government will have to stop any further relaxation measures.

OliveTree75 · 25/02/2021 17:11

I think it's a good thing

Seriouslymole · 25/02/2021 17:18

remember we follow the hysteria not the science now

Tragically this seems utterly true. Cases will rise as a result of schools going back (hospitalisation and deaths probably will not) the media will go mucking fental and everyone will cry "shut the schools" again. Rinse and repeat.

still hoping for Dogfest though

Jo99996 · 25/02/2021 17:22

@seriouslymole Yep, look at how the BBC switches between showing cases or deaths depending on which one fits their hysteria narriatve the best.

All journalists want that "gotcha" statement these days which forces the Government to do what they want.

I don't think they will go ahead but we need to be optimistic
MoirasRoses · 25/02/2021 17:44

I’ve booked various summer events. All refundable. I choose to live in hope.

DianaT1969 · 25/02/2021 17:48

I hope we have summer events. A day at the races would be amazing.

User7538943 · 25/02/2021 18:50

We are going to see Tom Jones and Bryan Ferry at Newmarket racecourse in July, hope it goes ahead, I am very hopeful for these outdoors events

Katie517 · 25/02/2021 18:59

If cases rise when the schools go back which they will, but by summer everyone vulnerable is vaccinated what is the issue? We are in lockdown to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed not to prevent people catching Covid.

Jo99996 · 25/02/2021 20:01

@Katie517. As I’ve said earlier hysteria over rising cases.

Give it a month and the forum here Will be full of people screaming that schools need to shut. Once Piers Morgan and the gang start saying it the Government will follow and pause the plan and shut school. Back to square one.

Keep1984fiction · 25/02/2021 20:23

Was more concerned about the timing the first race meeting at Chester is scheduled for May 5th.
That's before indoor hospitality opens up.
Another month later in June when things are supposed to be back to normal sounds a bit more reasonable when travel restrictions are loosened

I've literally just booked tickets for Ripon Races in August. On waiting list for Chester hopefully will get in
Keep1984fiction · 25/02/2021 20:46

Good luck with your trips.
It will be great if things go well and normal life resumes again.
I suppose everyone makes their choices about risk levels and if most people have had their vaccination then it should be OK

AnneElliott · 25/02/2021 21:02

Agree it's personal choice - no-one can say that crowded places aren't risky for Covid but of people are happy to risk it then that's fine. No one is forced to go to those events.

HesterShaw1 · 25/02/2021 21:03

Our town's festival is being planned for the end of June. Can't wait! We really missed it last year.

If anyone is too scared to go, they don't have to.

teenagetantrums · 25/02/2021 21:04

It will be fine. I'm getting my second jab next week as will many people. Time to go back to having a normal life l think

peak2021 · 25/02/2021 21:08

Chester races are being disingenuous with their marketing, as it may more likely to be without spectators.

I travelled through Chester to North Wales a couple of years ago on a race day, and I have never felt so ashamed to be English. I have never seen such a display of how not to dress up for an occasion. A site for sore eyes if ever there was one.

Hopefully crowds will be allowed will get ticket refund if not.

Yay. I shall continue living in hope rather than dwell and revel in gloom and doom.

Need to have things to look forward to after this lockdown, which was the hardest for my family and many others I know..
