Why has the online booking system jumped to group 7... what about group 6?!

Group 7 (over 60’s) can now book their vaccine online.

What about group 6 (16-64 underlying health conditions)

I’m group 6 and I haven’t had mine yet.

I have checked with my GP and it’s definitely on my records that I’m group 6.
They said I will get a text when they get to me, but gave me no timescales as to when this could be!!

Doesn’t seem fair at all.

Probably because the GPs are organising group 6, so the invite has to come from them. Once you get it I imagine you'd be able to book through the NHS site?

Soberfutures · 24/02/2021 18:05

Have you tried to book online yourself? Rather than GP?

@Stickytreacle

I’m back at work from maternity leave in 5 weeks and really wanted it before I go back 😭

@Soberfutures

Yes, it doesn’t let me book.

I think as Group 6 is so big, with people with varying medical conditions it’s down to GPs to send out texts for invite. In my area they are now doing over 50’s in Group 6, so presume they’ve done the 60-64 as my husband had his last week.

marcella1 · 24/02/2021 18:07

Am group six.....got invited to book via text from GP and jab tomorrow

Stickytreacle · 24/02/2021 18:10

My daughter's in the same boat, CV, no vaccines even started here for group 6 and she's working in school. Hopefully wont be too long!

scissy · 24/02/2021 18:11

Group 6 is much more complex to administrate. The other categories (apart from CEV which was relatively small so could be collated into a centralised database) go off your dob so is easy to determine your eligibility. Hence why they're processing age related groups via the central system whilst leaving group 6 to GPs. Although what is a pain is how different areas have handled it. Here all the local GPs have formed a single local hub for vaccination - they're surging through patients due to economies of scale.

RAINSh0wers · 24/02/2021 18:11

My DH is group 6 (type 1 diabetic) and had his jab today. The booking was made through the GP as I believe it’s down to them to arrange group 6 while the other groups can book through the hubs when it’s their time.

You can’t do this online. I’m group 6 and it says ineligible
soontobeanana · 24/02/2021 18:13

I've just gone on the NHS site to book mine but it's over 64's at the moment

MaddieElla · 24/02/2021 18:13

It says over 64? Not over 60.

rosie1959 · 24/02/2021 18:19

Over 64 so that’s group 5 not 7

@soontobeanana

It says over 64 but if you enter your NHS number and continue to book, it will let you.

My FIL has just booked his 1st and 2nd using online. He’s over 60.

It does say over 64 but I was allowed to book - I’m 62. It does seem to be that Group 7s are being allowed to book because it’s easy to check your age using your NHS number but Group 6 is reliant on the GP identifying and contacting you

MatildaStoker · 24/02/2021 18:35

It must be something to do with group 6 only being through GPs.

There’s a few big vaccination centres in my area, but you can’t self book for those if you’re group 6. You can if you qualify on grounds of age or if you’ve had a CEV letter.

So I guess it makes sense that the vaccination rate will be higher for people in other groups than group 6, there’s less work involved in identifying which people are, say, over 64, so easier to get their invites sent and get them into a big vaccination hub.

Literallyfedup · 24/02/2021 18:36

My local vaccination center is offering walk in vaccine service to anyone with diabetes if you have your papers ( prescription, a medical record), same if you are a carer. I drove past this afternoon and there was no one waiting. So probably they decided to do walk in for straight forward Group 6 as GP' are too slow organising list for G6.

fiftyval · 24/02/2021 18:41

Where does it say group 7 can book? It is still saying over 64 and underlying conditions on the NHS online booking

MaddieElla · 24/02/2021 18:44

It does work! Thanks OP. My mum now has her two appointments booked. She works in a school so she's over the moon. Grin

Lansonmaid · 24/02/2021 18:44

@ fiftyval It doesn’t say but when I put my NHS number in I could proceed to book. Lots of other people have done it apparently

Bedforme · 24/02/2021 18:47

Group 6 and I know I need to be patient but it’s hard especially now a lot of the people I am close to have had vaccine. (I know they are more vulnerable so not so much envy as frustration.)

MuddyWalks · 24/02/2021 18:50

Some areas 20 year olds are getting theirs due to the low uptake from others higher up the list.

SendMeHome · 24/02/2021 18:52

You can’t book through the site for group 6. It’s a text from your GP and a localised booking system. I got my text last weekend and am having the vaccine this weekend.

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 24/02/2021 18:53

Yes it depends where you live , my 22 year old had his with me (group 6) and my DH (group 9).
