Why has the online booking system jumped to group 7... what about group 6?!

fireflylanegirls · 24/02/2021 18:00

Group 7 (over 60’s) can now book their vaccine online.

What about group 6 (16-64 underlying health conditions)

I’m group 6 and I haven’t had mine yet.

I have checked with my GP and it’s definitely on my records that I’m group 6.
They said I will get a text when they get to me, but gave me no timescales as to when this could be!!

Doesn’t seem fair at all.

Do you have the option for a walk in appointment? In Hampshire we now have three large centres doing walk ins for certain groups.

SeasonFinale · 24/02/2021 18:59

DH is group 6 due to underlying condition and had a text this afternoon. We had tried the online booking earlier and it wouldn't let him book. About 3 hours later the surgery texted and he has booked for next week.

It is possible OP if they do not have your number that a letter is on its way or if they do a text may be imminent.

Front page still says over 65s but I entered my details last night and got straight through to an appointment even after confirming I'm not CEV.

fireflylanegirls · 24/02/2021 19:02

@MaddieElla

It does work! Thanks OP. My mum now has her two appointments booked. She works in a school so she's over the moon. Grin
@MaddieElla

Yaay! Brilliant. Grin

One of the big vaccine centres near me has been wasting hundreds of appointments as not enough people are booking in via the NHS system. The more local centres where appointments are made by GPs are running at capacity. If the same thing is happening in other big vaccine centres it makes sense to start on the next group. As others have said it is easy to identify that people qualify from DOB and NHS number. I know our local centre have been doing CV aged 16-64 as I was volunteering there last week and the people definitely weren't all over 65. It is progressing at different rates in different area so if you are sure you are coded as CV then you will get yours shortly but there is no need to delay others just because you haven't had yours.

fireflylanegirls · 24/02/2021 19:03

@SendMeHome

You can’t book through the site for group 6. It’s a text from your GP and a localised booking system. I got my text last weekend and am having the vaccine this weekend.
@SendMeHome

Would you mind sharing what age range you are?

I’m wondering they’re going by age for this group?

I had mine today at a local hospital - I think it was via a referral from my GP.

fireflylanegirls · 24/02/2021 19:06

@bigbluebus

I wouldn’t want to delay anyone, everyone is entitled to one.

It just seems a bit unfair that they’ve skipped a group for the online booking.

I was ecstatic I read this, just got my mum and dad booked in for tomorrow. Mum was bothered about not being eligible so I've booked it for her. Thankyou so much for posting this, I never would have checked if not

overwork · 24/02/2021 19:08

Sorry I don't mean to rub it in, I should have read your post properly before I commented. I hope you get yours ASAP too

MyBossIsATwat · 24/02/2021 19:09

Some areas are going by age, some by condition, done by surname. And some (mine) don’t seem to be going at all.

I posted a similar thread earlier OP, it’s so frustrating isn’t it. I don’t begrudge people in group 7 taking the option at all, it’s not like I want to have mine instead of them, I want it as well as them.

WombatChocolate · 24/02/2021 19:12

There is another thread running about this.

It is frustrating when the front page on the NHS online booking system says people have to be 64, but the system is accepting those over 60. Why can't they update the front page?

So many people are keen to stick to the rules and not queue jump, that they see that front page and don't try to book....even though the system WILL let them book as they are now eligible......the system will not let anyone who isn't eligible le book. But lots of 60-63s who have booked feel like they've done something bad and worry they will be in trouble.

All it takes is for the front page to be updated.

It would also help if the site said that those in Group 6 will take longer to do (large group) and that younger age groups such as 7,8,9 will be done concurrently with 6. Otherwise, there are going to be loads of threads and people phoning the GP etc to say they are Group 6 and have been missed out, becaue they know group 7 is being done.

A bit more information and more regular updating would really help. This also goes for on GP websites which are often a couple of weeks behind with their front page info, compared to what is actually happening.

Smileyoriley · 24/02/2021 19:20

@fiftyval 64 year olds are group 7

Ahh that’s fab. Glad you’ve got them booked in.

That’s how I feel. I don’t want anyone not to have the theirs, I just want mine too.

At this rate DH will get his on age before the GP calls him for group 6 Confused

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 24/02/2021 19:33

As others have said the group 6 is being done by GPs, not through the NHS booming link.

It varies so much not just by area but by GP practice.

For example me and OH have had ours, but my friend who is also group 6 hasn't heard anything yet. Same city, different GP

Georgyporky · 24/02/2021 19:42

It seems to be a post-code lottery, just like the NHS has always been.

NCforSanity · 24/02/2021 19:47

Due to seeing this thread, I went online to try and book. It let me.

I am G6, as a Parent Carer.

I do get Carers Allowance and am coded appropriately with my GP.

I had my NHS Number and chose 'no' to the 'are you CEV' question.

Our area seem to have got through G1-5's with ease , so I don't know if any of these factors are even relevant.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/02/2021 20:02

@NCforSanity it's because you get CA. Being a carer by itself qualifies you for g6 but only carers who get CA can use the booking link.

Annamaywong25 · 24/02/2021 20:03

I'm group 7, just tried to book on line on NHS website. Wont let me book? What link/site are people using please?

renallychallenged · 24/02/2021 20:06

Im group 6 (unpaid carer for CEV) and had mine at a big vaccination centre today. So not true is all through GPs

renallychallenged · 24/02/2021 20:08

I would advise any Group 6 carers to ring their local shielding advice line. Mine was very helpful and booked me in straight away at the big vacc centre - I do not receive carers allowance.

soontobeanana · 24/02/2021 20:20

Many thanks for this info - I'm group 7 and just booked via NHS website - I wouldn't have carried on as it says 64 - so glad for the heads up.

itsgettingwierd · 24/02/2021 20:22

Yea group 6 is via GP.

They confirmed ds is on the list (happy to do so as I said I know they didn't want calls about when but it wasn't when but rather if he's on list as because he's 16 if he isn't done he'll never get called).

You'll get a text and in my area it's done at local GP hub rather than at nhs vaccination hub.

I am however going to badger his neurologist to book his if he isn't called by the time we go first week of April!
