I'm really not looking to start a bunfight. Just tying to better understand the reasons if you are not planning on allowing your child to be tested.

They aren’t compulsory but imo they should be. Just seen a new segment on the testing - a very well organised school if 1800 pupils. 1600 have consented to the test - a very positive and responsible group of students who obviously value keeping everyone as safe as they can so that they can continue with their education.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/03/2021 08:32

@pourmeanotherglass as they are both over 16 they are the ones who have to give consent anyway.

I am a nurse, I have ordered the governments school test kits online and DC will be taking these at home. That is even safer than the school system and I will be very annoyed if the DC are treated as irresponsible or not valuing keeping everyone as safe as they can, especially as I have told the school. Taking tests at school is not the only way to be responsible and keep people safe.

These issues divide the nation. Plenty of those standing up for human rights could make a case they are the ones who are doing best for the others.

we are where we are. When these over ordered unreliable tests are used up testing will stop and it will become a non issue anyway.

doyourememberthemouldies · 08/03/2021 13:39

Agreed. Plus after the 3 at-school tests, everyone will be doing at-home tests anyway.
So I assume from that point (next week) school and some virtue-signallers will have to accept that at-home testing is just as valid.

Parker231 · 08/03/2021 13:41

doyouremember- I totally agree, you as a nurse doing the tests is the best way. The news segment I saw was a school who are impressively well organised in the way of doing the tests. A huge additional task for the school staff but hopefully it will pay off for the staff, pupils and their families.

doyourememberthemouldies · 08/03/2021 13:48

I am a bit touchy as not doing the tests in school seems to have led to me being added to the school email distribution group for parents who refuse to consent and whose kids won't wear masks, which is a bit insulting since actually we are doing testing and sending DC with masks and since DC are prone to gagging and coughing with the tests, it is far safer for them to do that at home.

BungleandGeorge · 08/03/2021 14:21

There will be many people not doing tests in schools for very valid reasons! I can’t understand why they didn’t just send them home, then the kids could do them before they’ve sat on public transport and mixed with friends! Just do a training session on teams

Why should we test healthy children and subject them to mask wearing all day. If kids didn’t want to go to school before they certainly won’t want to now.

To try an slow the spread of a highly contagious virus, whilst enabling schools to open to a wider cohort of children?

Because kids may appear healthy but still be infected and spread it.
Parker231 · 09/03/2021 08:44

Testing and mask wearing contribute to restricting the spread of Covid cases.

Xenia · 10/03/2021 08:41

May be although if the tests doled out by schools are only 50% correct you get a lot of false results which might mean people are lulled into thinking they are in the clear.
