Underlying health condition doesn’t qualify?

Has anyone else on here had an underlying condition they expected to be vaxed for but told no??
My hubby has Congenital Heart Valve Disease which is monitored annually with scans and consultant meetings, he gets all the NHS flu/pneumatic jabs etc.

But when he wasn’t called up in this cohort I called his GP and they said he doesn’t qualify so will be called up by age.

We are really shocked, especially with the kids going back to school soon we’ve been holding onto this as a little extra protection for him.

Does anyone know if the GPs have any say in this? Ours said they’re sticking strictly to guidelines even though guidelines include Congenital Heart Disease. Does putting the word valve in there change this?

Anyone else had anything like this or trying to fight it??

They’ve always made a song and dance about his heart at every other opportunity so why now? And how can they say he has to have flu vax but not this which is a far worse disease. Just doesn’t add up??

@Ellietheant I hope your DH hears soon.

Quite interesting to see @beaniecats posting here. I recognised the name. They don’t think lockdown is needed, should be ended, and think covid is just a mild illness and we’re all just over exaggerating and buying into the media indices fear. So good to see they are actually worrying about not getting their jab! That’s made my day. Really has. Hoping that all the other mouthy conspiracy theory people in my Facebook feed are actually going to get theirs too. They’ve all changed from “it doesn’t exist”, to “it does but it’s only flu”, “to it exists but variants aren’t real” etc. As they clearly know no one working in healthcare at the moment. But they are all secretly wanting the jab. Happy days!

Take a photo of the part of the NHS green book where it says congenital heart disease includes you in group 6 and highlight this part - email the doctor and say you feel this includes him and ask for their thoughts. I am also someone who queried with their doctor after seeing a mumsnet post about a few things and it turns out they had not coded a long term condition and this with me being a ceoliac they agreed to list me as Group 6. Unfort Group 6 is totally Dr discretion by the sounds of it. The greenbook lists ceoliacs as a condition on its own but my dr only agreed to put me in group 6 because I have ceoliacs and another condition.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/02/2021 09:25

Is being a coeliac a condition that puts you into group 6?

ittakes2 · 21/02/2021 09:33

Re Coeliac questions - there is a full thread on Ceoliac's and group 6. If you go to the NHS greenbook it list ceoliac disease under spleen poor function because 1/3 of ceoliac's unknowingly have problems with their spleens - its why we get offered the flu jab. If you go to the ceoliac society webpage re Covid it suggests ceoliac's discuss with their doctor about being in group 6. On the thread about ceoliac's and Group 6 many ceoliacs who only have ceoliacs have been called up by the dr surgeries for the vaccination.

I’ve seen people post they are getting their vaccinations now in group 6 and second jab booked in for 6 weeks. I have to wait 12 weeks for my second jab as CEV and I don’t get my second until a month after they have finished their course and got full immunity? How does that work?

I have heart valve disease and got called for my vaccine last week.

I have rheumatoid arthritis, a neurological condition and BMI 35 (was 42 but I've lost weight over the past year - GP will have it recorded as 42 though) but I've been told I won't be in one of the priority groups but will be called by age (I'm 48). What's annoying is I was about to get my meds reviewed for my RA when the pandemic hit so I'm currently on nothing at all apart from heavy duty pain relief. If I was on my RA meds I'd probably qualify. Or not. Who knows?!

To be honest being an inflammatory and auto-immune condition I would’ve expected RA to have been high on the list... I can’t believe you aren’t on it. They really have made a royal fuck up with this. It’s like a toddler with a sharpie has just got trigger happy on a list of illnesses. It’s a bloody joke... it’s actually making my blood boil.

I intend to hit our GP surgery with everything I have this week to get my husband covered.

Sausageroll67 · 21/02/2021 21:25

MS is definitely on the list. I’m booked in for this week! I don’t even particularly suffer with it and am fully mobile thanks to an excellent disease modifying drug.

Dementedswan · 22/02/2021 07:20

Great... now I have to decide between risking my health or sending dc back to school Sad

Do you mind me asking what you're on?

I was taken off drugs several years ago due to the adverse reactions I had.

I know drugs have been added but because I'm not currently on anything other than pain killers I seem to have been forgotten.

Thanks.

This is exactly how I’ve been feeling! It’s so hard isn’t it... 6 months ago I was dead set that whenever things got bad I’d homeschool but I can see how much my children need school right now. My littlest is only 4 and this is all she really knows. I watched her playing the other day and the virus was in her game it totally broke me, this is so unfair in them

Just an update. We sent an email to our GP surgery yesterday with a FAO a different doctor as a last attempt, we weren’t expecting anything back. Hubby had a call at 8:45 this morning asking if he could be at the vaccination hub in 20 minutes as there’d been a no show. The doctor said he agreed DH should definitely be in this round, all forms of heart and valve disease should be.

I feel so much more relived knowing he’s covered now for when school starts.

Anyone still fighting for their right to a vaccine this is a pathway worth trying. Good luck x
