Anyone with a heart condition been offered the vaccine?

I had an atrial septal defect which is now fitted with a cathetar, just wondering if things like this would be on the list for an earlier vaccine or not?

My DM has a heart murmur, high blood pressure and had myocarditis 2 years ago. She is 58 and had her vaccine yesterday

Summerisneardontfear · 20/02/2021 16:38

Ah OK, I wonder if I might get in earlier too then

Is your condition congenital OP?

Summerisneardontfear · 20/02/2021 16:50

@Piggywaspushed yes

I have a congenital heart defect and haven't heard anything yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be called soon, but our GP seemingly writes its own rules so I won't be surprised if I'm waiting another few months.

Piggywaspushed · 20/02/2021 17:33

Congenital heart defects are definitely group 6 so you should be done soon. GPs do seem to have a particular blind spot for heart issues.

BloomRoses · 20/02/2021 17:45

I have a congenital heart defect and had my invite yesterday.

BeyondMyWits · 20/02/2021 17:48

I had a heart attack 3 years ago. I'm 56. Got my vaccine last Saturday. (with no side effects.... yay...)

MechantGourmet · 20/02/2021 17:51

I have a congenital heart condition, I had no idea this would put me in a group for vaccination. Haven't heard a thing from the GPs.

Gonegrey31 · 20/02/2021 17:53

I also have a serious heart condition, haven’t been called . My GP refusing to take any vaccination related phone calls . Just have to wait !

Dementedswan · 20/02/2021 17:56

I've high blood pressure and an enlarged heart. My gp says I'm group 10.

Piggywaspushed · 20/02/2021 18:02

Hi Demented, here is the greenbook

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/961287/Greenbook_chapter_14a_v7_12Feb2021.pdf

You need to tell your GP you have consulted page 10 where it lists 'hypertension with cardiac complications ' in group 6.

Dementedswan · 20/02/2021 18:04

Thank you, I've seen that. But my gp says they get the list of people sent and she believes I fall under group 10.

Do you think this is something I should push further?

Piggywaspushed · 20/02/2021 18:05

Definitely! Do you have a consultant?

Dementedswan · 20/02/2021 18:06

No I don't.

Piggywaspushed · 20/02/2021 18:07

Oh, OK. Think you might have to continue to pester the GP then, sadly.

Summerisneardontfear · 20/02/2021 18:08

I'll ring my docs on Monday and see if they can check it out for me. If they can't I'll try and get hold of the consultant

Not heard a thing.

I have a VSD. I get called for the 'flu vaccine every year.

Our area doesn't seem to be as 'busy' as it was last month with regards to the COVID vaccine.

Summerisneardontfear · 20/02/2021 18:11

I didn't get the flu vaccine because of mine but I did have to have regular scans for pregnancy and I have to carry a card saying I've got the cathetar in because its metal so I might just call and ask

I've read that information again and told Dh. He said he's already looked into it and is planning calling the GP today and insisting on speaking to the lead doctor.

LubaLuca · 20/02/2021 18:14

I do get the flu jab every year because of mine, so perhaps that's the decider.

Singlenotsingle · 20/02/2021 18:17

I've got atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Had mine last week but I don't think I was advanced up the list. I'm 69.

Piggywaspushed · 20/02/2021 18:17

Oddly, DH has been told he has been booted off flu jab list but is definitely group 6 for covid jab!

Having seen him get endocarditis and then life saving heart surgery, I'd rather him not get covid...

Hollyhead · 20/02/2021 18:24

No not yet but my Vsd is less than 1mm in diameter and I run 30 miles a week so maybe it’s not serious enough?

CocoSims · 20/02/2021 20:11

Sorry I’ve just seen this thread, I posted a new one an hour ago asking a similar question!

My DH has Congenital Mitral Valve Bowing with regurgitation (Heart valve disease). He has to have annual scans and consultancies etc and has always qualified for the flu and pneumonia jabs.

I called after not hearing anything and GP were very stern and said he’s not on the list so will be called up by age.

It’s shocked and worried us. Kids go back next month so was hoping he’d have some protection to keep him safe.

Had a bit of a read on the BHF forums and sounds like a bit of a shambles, some getting vaccine and some not, GPs sound like they’re making the calls. I’m going to push ours as far as I can as I want him to have it but not sure I’ll have much luck.
