I had an atrial septal defect which is now fitted with a cathetar, just wondering if things like this would be on the list for an earlier vaccine or not?

TBH it’s early days with covid they’ve admitted this a million times, a heart condition is a heart condition I feel you all should be getting the vaccine especially if it’s structural as all they are sure about is that this thing can weaken the heart muscle so that’s just common sense. This list has been so badly done.

Dh has already had his vaccine as his diabetic. I don't think we can let this lie. I've emailed the British heart foundation for advice. I've read and re read the government's green book.

Funnily enough a lot of conditions in the green book are not included on the jcvi list. I'm wonder if this is why so many with underlying conditions have been missed off ?

I don't think I can let this lie, it's been in news everywhere that hp/ heart conditions put you at risk of severe disease.

Mindymomo · 20/02/2021 21:56

My DH had a triple heart bypass last May, is 63 and had his vaccine on Tuesday. I tried booking him in on the nhs vaccine website, but it said he wasn’t eligible, but got a text from GP last Friday to book online.

This is exactly how I feel as well. It’s peoples lives they’re playing with and this needs to be clearer. Without a doubt many people will die because of these errors in the coming months. I do think some of the GPs are power tripping with this and not putting their patients first.

Ive written to the BHF too. I’ve also written to Professor Whitty, you can just google his email address. They DO read their emails, I had a response from Matt Hancock last year regarding a separate matter.

What else can we do?

againstthefamilygrain · 20/02/2021 22:20

Yes, I have various congenital heart diseases and have been offered vaccine by the GP.

againstthefamilygrain · 20/02/2021 22:21

Btw, I’m 22, if age helps.

Thanks 😊 Would you mind if I ask which conditions you have? I’m just trying to work out what they are and aren’t including
Cherryup · 20/02/2021 22:47

DH has severe heart failure and is having his next week, he's early 50's, so I think has been bumped up a little.

Dementedswan · 20/02/2021 22:47

Can I ask what you have said in your email to Chris Whitty? I'm not very good with words.

TinkleyZebra · 20/02/2021 22:50

My dad has a heart condition - not entirely sure what it is, something to do with occasionally missing a beat. He takes warfarin. Had the Pfizer vaccine last week.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2021 22:50

DH has atrial fibrillation- currently well controlled, he's not had a bout for ages - he's got his vacc booked.

FrangipaniBlue · 20/02/2021 22:52

FIL (62) had a heart attack and 3 stents fitted in September, he got the text to book his vaccine a few days ago

Arabella2020 · 20/02/2021 22:53

Does anyone know if a heart murmur is classed as a heart condition?

Dementedswan · 20/02/2021 22:55

Have a look on the gov green book. It lists all the conditions that fit under group 6.

Dementedswan · 20/02/2021 23:01

Underlying health conditions reported among adult patients with severe COVID-19 include hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, chronic kidney disease, immune compromised status, cancer, smoking and obesity.

Copied from the ecdc

mootymoo · 20/02/2021 23:04

If you are group 6 you can book via the website, if you aren't eligible it won't let you in which case you will need your gp or specialist to authorise it

brokenkettle · 20/02/2021 23:05

Yes, someone I know who has a mechanical valve has received their appointment letter

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 20/02/2021 23:07

I have a CHD, MVP and get my jab next week, dd is 17 and has a more serious CHD and hasn't been called yet, she has a Zoom appointment with cardiology next week so will ask them.

AnxiousAlpaca · 20/02/2021 23:51

I have MVP not been called yet but GP has confirmed I’m group 6

Psychobobble · 20/02/2021 23:57

DP has repaired TOF (congenital heart condition) and was vaccinated a few days ago. He's 49.

justasking111 · 21/02/2021 00:04

My friend with cardiomyopathy aged 34 had hers a month ago, think you need to chase up to make sure you are not forgotten. My neighbour a heart transplant patient was forgotten. He is in his seventies.

Tatum1234 · 21/02/2021 00:04

I have dilated cardiomyopathy, was in severe heart failure last year but currently doing ok and I haven’t been called yet. However my GP has said that I am in group 6 so hoping it will be one day soon.

I have a heart murmur and am having my vaccine next week, but the murmur is caused by a valve defect. I think there are innocent heart murmurs with no structural defects too so I think it would depend?

Also for context to anyone wondering I'm in my 20s.

CocoSims · 21/02/2021 10:32

Hi! Just out of interest what type of valve defect do you have x

AnxiousAlpaca · 21/02/2021 11:03

@CocoSims Your DH seems to have a somewhat more serious version of what I have. If I’m in group 6 surely he should be too.
