Announcement just made for NI that most kids won't be going back to school until after the Easter holidays, and there's no guarantee of that. So fed up.

@Mmelaraque

I think it's hilarious that you would think it's okay to instruct non swimmers to do this instead of actually learning to swim

Its a great tip and I agree all should know it but we still need the skill to swim. A non swimmer would just panic in that situation.

you seem to argue just for the sake of arguing. Are you a doctors receptionist????

Inastatus · 21/02/2021 17:34

@SpencerGregson - it is looking promising regarding vaccine and transmission 🤞🏻

I would instruct non-swimmers to learn to float on their backs.

You need to seriously consider the ramifications of what you are saying here. Many non-swimmers don't have the cognitive skills to learn to swim. The best, safest and most effective option is to teach them to float on their backs. Are you seriously telling everyone reading this that you have a problem with that? Seriously?

You'd rather someone drown than learn to float on their back?

You seem to be one of those people whose opinion is worth more than the supporting evidence.

MmeLaraque · 21/02/2021 20:19

The whole situation in the UK isn't because of a third "lockdown" (like the Uk ever had a proper lockdown in the first place). It's the failure of this govt to have a proper lockdown in the first place.

This govt waited so long, then didn't lock down hard enough in the first place... then finished that too early. So now, the UK is in the third "lockdown", and people are complaining they can't cope.

The Tories don't *care about any of us. So they encourage this "enough now!!" stupidity. If peopel here think they know better than the scientists, please explain your credentials. It woudl be interesting to read those qualifications.

Says you spouting off about the vaccine not being effective enough to prevent transmission!

MmeLaraque · 21/02/2021 20:36

I had no idea how many utter and total idiots used this place. I do now.

The ignorance and stupidity on display in here is breathtaking.

Goodnight.

@Violetlavenders

Lockdown has always been about preventing the NHS from being over-whelmed.

Exactly. By closing schools children have made huge sacrifices to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed. The hospitals are now no longer overwhelmed. The vulnerable have been vaccinated.

Kids need to go back to school now.

The vulnerable have NOT all been vaccinated. My 53 year old T1 diabetic teacher DH remains unvaccinated as not yet got to group 6. Would you say that if your loved ones were being put at such a risk? Hmm

The vaccine would have a job being effective enough to prevent transmission between people who haven't had it - the majority of the country, including all school children and many of their immediate household members.

Inastatus · 21/02/2021 23:17

@Woolff - jeez, are you really a teacher? You seem to have such difficulty grasping what people say! I was replying to another poster who was commenting on vaccines and transmission generally - did you get that bit? Try to keep up.
Thinking about it though, if the virus has been so virulent in schools because they are unsafe then huge numbers of teachers and pupils must have had COVID already and therefore have the antibodies to protect them.

DreamingofDalyan · 22/02/2021 05:20

It would make so much sense to keep everything locked down , keep vaccinating so that when things open they stay open. If everyone vaccinated and if a new strain was found and quickly contained this bloody thing may be over for schools starting in Winter. Unfortunately my faith in Boris is nonexistent and if there is a way that he can screw it up...he will

MmeLaraque · 22/02/2021 13:04

"What's the single most risky thing we could do right now?"

"Open all the schools. Send everyone back."

"So all those unvaccinated kids and staff in together? Won't that increase transmission rates?"

"Probably."

"No one is going to want to do that, surely? Risking their kids like that?"

I hope I'm/we're wrong. I truly do. Sadly, this virus spreads through close contact, and via breathing. So hundreds of unvaccinated kids and staff together in school again is a perfect breeding ground for this virus.

Especially when some school staff don't adhere to the rules and guidelines either. It's a shitstorm waiting to happen.

It's 8th March here in England.

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 23/02/2021 17:53

Looks like Arlene and Peter 'Count Olaf' Weir are warming up for a reverse ferret and we may yet be heading back on March 8th...

Really? You think it's a good idea to have lots of unvaccinated people back in the same place?

MmeLaraque · 23/02/2021 20:33

@BrideofBideford

Gosh, why? With everyone being vaccinated and the R rate down?

I may scream

It’s unacceptable, schools have open in other countries in Feb

After doing too little too late, the gvt is now in overkill and doing too much unnecessarily

And the kids pay with their education, mental health and future options Angry

"Gosh, why? With everyone being vaccinated."

Stop right there. "Everyone" is not vaccinated.

other countries locked down properly. England didn't. Johnson didn't even bother to attend Cobra meetings until it was too late. bOasted about shaking hands with CV patients. You want to take his advice on *anything?

HauntedPencil · 23/02/2021 21:16

I don't see what Boris saying he's shaking hands with people has to do with school policy a year later.

Borris shaking hands with Covid patients was idiotic and the new plan well.... let’s hope it goes to plan because it’s a big plan!

@WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo I just don't get the DUP. They seem determined to pick a fight on all of it. Desperate to be seen as pro business and education but end up looking like dicks. Will be interesting to see how it pans out. Wonder if they will decide it's a cross community issue again!!
Saoirse7 · 25/02/2021 13:44

The DUP have been on the wrong side of history for just about every single decision they've ever made.

The lack of consequence for the actions of members such as Paisley and Wilson is simply unfathomable.

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 25/02/2021 17:02

And this racist bastard.

Politicians in Westminster have to resign for stuff that’s a fraction of what our lot here do. The people who vote them in should be ashamed.
