Announcement just made for NI that most kids won't be going back to school until after the Easter holidays, and there's no guarantee of that. So fed up.

OP posts:
Tippexy · 18/02/2021 17:30

This is what needs to happen in England too.

Letseatgrandma · 18/02/2021 17:32

Good for NI! I wish England was the same-I have a feeling we’ll all be sent back en masse on the 8th March and then be back in lockdown my May.

Lemons1571 · 18/02/2021 17:36

I hope for this for England too. But I’m lucky that they are ok ish with homeschool and I wfh. I just want teacher DH to be safer, which he would be if schools are emptier

schoolreturnni · 18/02/2021 17:37

I've just posted about this. You say 9th April are they changing Easter holiday or do you mean 19th April ?

Our Easter break isn't due to finish until 16th this year, due back in school on the 19th

Beaniecats · 18/02/2021 17:40

Feel so sorry for kids
It's their education and futures

ssd · 18/02/2021 17:43

They need to repeat a year. So awful for everyone.

Cleebope2 · 18/02/2021 17:45

Schools due back Monday 12thApril in NI

Rainbowsandstorms · 18/02/2021 17:46

As hard as it is I really hope they do this in England.

MuddlingMackem · 18/02/2021 17:48

I hope schools in England don't go back until at least after Easter too.

As other people have mentioned elsewhere , it's not just the increased risk of transmission when schools are open, but the relaxed attitude to the rules open schools induce in a proportion of the population, and we need enough people to continue to take the rules seriously until case numbers are sufficiently reduced.

Our school is back on 12th April after Easter. So that’s 7.5 weeks from now. They’ve already been off 9 weeks since before Christmas. So that will be at least 16.5 weeks.

Also hoping England take the cautious approach and hold off till after the Easter holiday. Variants aside we are making good progress and would be a shame to spoil that.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 18/02/2021 17:49

I am so sorry. It's so hard and must be harder to have your hopes dashed. Poor kids and parents in NI.

I totally agree but don't know how they would do itSad
giggly · 18/02/2021 17:49

Well that couldn’t have come as a surprise surely?

MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2021 17:49

Ah that is so tough

whenwillthemadnessend · 18/02/2021 17:50

I'm raging. They better not do this in England.
At least send the poor GCSEs kids back My dd has lost nearly two terms of her GCSEs now

schoolreturnni · 18/02/2021 17:51

I just double checked our school holidays and we are off Good Friday and week beginning 5th and due back on 19th. We are also NI so maybe our school holidays will change. God knows why they differ so much !

MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2021 17:52

Which years does this apply to?

GCSE and A-level students are going back on 22nd March in NI for some face to face teaching before Easter
Bunnybigears · 18/02/2021 17:53

I dont understand why they can't do flexible schooling? I would prefer schools didnt go back completely until after Easter but why can't each year have 1 day in school and the other 4 working at home?

PatriciaValiant · 18/02/2021 17:53

I would really prefer a rota system, so my dc can at least get some in person contact with school.

IloveFebruary · 18/02/2021 17:54

I don’t blame you for feeling fucked off. I’m an anxious mess waiting for the announcement in England on Monday. We are all at breaking point.
If they don’t announce my DC’s years back in March we are going to quit home school and just lay around the house because we are all sick to death of it.

thefallthroughtheair · 18/02/2021 17:57

God how ridiculous. I'm just so furious on behalf of children.

BrideofBideford · 18/02/2021 17:57

Gosh, why? With everyone being vaccinated and the R rate down?

I may scream

It’s unacceptable, schools have open in other countries in Feb

After doing too little too late, the gvt is now in overkill and doing too much unnecessarily

And the kids pay with their education, mental health and future options Angry

I agree. I don’t blame the OP for feeling fed up!
