I’m freaking out a bit that there’s something wrong with me I don’t know about. I received a shielding letter but have no idea why I have it. I’m slightly overweight but haven’t been weighed by a dr in 10years and that was just after I’d given birth to my youngest. I have no underlying health conditions I know about and I’m only 38. All I can think of is that I had gestational diabetes but that was years ago. I’ve already had the first jab as I work in healthcare but I’m worried they know something I don’t. I’m not going to shield as I don’t think I need to and I want to work but it’s still thrown me quite a bit.

You are definitely obese if your BMI is over 30

Thegirlhasnoname · 18/02/2021 13:11

@CometCupidDonnerBlitzen

Has anyone else here had GD and not had a shielding letter today? I'm worried I've been missed now. :/
Mine was in my junk emails so might be worth checking there
Tupperwarelid · 18/02/2021 13:11

@Blacktothepink

I’m type 1 diabetic, bmi of 30...still awaiting mine 🙄
I’m exactly the same!
StarrIntheSky · 18/02/2021 13:12

Me too! And I had GD

Picklypickles · 18/02/2021 13:12

I had an e-mail today too, I had thought it might be because I had a kidney removed a few years ago but I have also had GD when I was pregnant with DS 7 years ago so sounds like it might be that!

More confusing was the NHS text message I received this morning cancelling my Covid Vaccination appointment. I didn't have an appointment booked for a vaccination?! I'm 39, my 65yr old dad has just been offered his first jab, so not expecting to be offered one myself for a while yet!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/02/2021 13:12

Well on tenterhooks now as had Gd 6 years ago and BMI over 30 and high blood pressure on medical records.

Never had an annual diabetes check like many here have mentioned, didn't even get a post birth diabetes check. BMI is now 27 after starting a diet last August and no idea what my blood pressure is now.

Only go to the doctors once every 3 years for a new implant so their records are not representative of current reality.

MyDcAreMarvel · 18/02/2021 13:12

@FourTeaFallOut Well, if the surgery has no concerns about your health then just ignore it.
What dangerous , stupid advice!

Spidey66 · 18/02/2021 13:14

It's not law, just guidelines. Also I think it will mean you're more likely to be prioritised for a vaccine. I'd carry on as you were in your shoes.

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 18/02/2021 13:14

@Thegirlhasnoname Checked my junk folder, nothing there. Maybe it is postcode related.

Bluebolt · 18/02/2021 13:19

I looked at the list, I had GD twice, but have no other factors from the list so I assume will not be added to the list.

ItchyKondera · 18/02/2021 13:19

I got one too. Thought it was due to BMI being higher - but i did have GD with both pregnancies?

Doubleistrouble · 18/02/2021 13:19

I received an email too although I have no health concerns. As above, I had GD 2 years ago which could be why. I forwarded the email to my surgery who asked me to ignore it

SonnetForSpring · 18/02/2021 13:22

Diabetes is a massive risk factor. It completely messes up the immune response to covid.

AngeloMysterioso · 18/02/2021 13:24

@ThePug if you follow that link there’s a drop down list- List of QCovid® risk factors in approximate order of weighting

Zilla1 · 18/02/2021 13:27

So a central body has applied a fourth party algorithm to centrally-held patient data that may have historical inaccuracies then said to speak to primary care without primary care having a clear picture about the data on which individual risk assessments have been made to be able to advise or reassure the patient.

Simultaneously, conflicting guidance about vaccine eligibility has been communicated. The result has been lots of calls to our surgery about the risk assessment, lots of calls complaining that someone and their partner should have a vaccine (usually because someone wants to be at the front of the queue for foreign holidays when COVID passports are issued) outside the official categorisation and all while we're busy running vaccination clinics and housebound vaccinations for our PCN and contacting patients for new and second vaccinations while vaccine delivery dates change and we're also trying to deliver the pre-COVID priorities and clinics.

DavidsSchitt · 18/02/2021 13:27

Great. I've got a heart problem, been missed off the group 6 list and now all appointments for vaccinations in my area are full for the rest of the month.

I had GD and I've had no letter or email.

Starting to feel like the fucking invisible woman

knittingaddict · 18/02/2021 13:27

@Dowermouse

A BMI of 30 isn't slightly overweight. My BMI is 30, I'm classed as obese.
Does it matter? It's irrelevant to what the op is asking as it's way below the 4o plus BMI which is a concern.
knittingaddict · 18/02/2021 13:27

Sorry 40, not 4o.

JemimaMuddledUp · 18/02/2021 13:31

Yes they can still go to school. I've been shielding since last March and my DC went back to school between September and Christmas.

cretelover · 18/02/2021 13:38

Does anyone know if pregant women over 28 weeks have been added?

DavidsSchitt · 18/02/2021 13:38

"Has anyone else here had GD and not had a shielding letter today? I'm worried I've been missed now. :/"

Yep. Although 3 heart conditions can't get me a vaccine it seems. Ffs. Pissed off now

DaisyDreaming · 18/02/2021 13:40

Did you see the man who was invited for his covid vaccine? It was because his BMI came up as 28,000 after his height had been incorrectly put in the system as 6cm! Just ring them and discuss it

Frazzled2207 · 18/02/2021 13:40

Totally bonkers to ask you to shield when they won’t tell you why? Isn’t it?

QueenPaw · 18/02/2021 13:42

It's just the new algorithm. I believe they're adding a lot of diabetics in too and GD seems to be triggering it also

JKW36 · 18/02/2021 13:42

My bmi is over 40 and I havent received a shielding letter. I've not had high blood pressure, gestational diabetes or diabetes so maybe that's why. My gp has confirmed for me that I am group 6 but they are only just starting group 4 at my surgery and supposedly group 6 can't book to go to a hub so going to be a long while yet
