How much longer do you think Sturgeon will keep Scotland locked down after England? I know everything is speculation now, but even last year we didn’t have the “rule of 6” up here and we seem to have things a bit tougher.

I’m getting worried for so many friends and family and although I know eventually things will improve, it feels very much at the moment that Scotland is going to be held back. Many predict no indoor mixing until next year!

At least our children have been able to mix outdoors. A 5 year old in England can’t see friends - even for a run about outside or to go sledging.
We don’t always have tougher restrictions than England.

noname55 · 17/02/2021 10:21

@MrsPerfect12 what about the rest of primary school? P4-7 are still off for the foreseeable. I can't see pubs opening but I like the thought of it!

cocopops · 17/02/2021 10:24

I think she is being tardy in unlocking as a) she wants to see what WM announces next Monday so she can go one better (otherwise why not just publish the exit map yesterday) and b) she wants to kick unlocking into the long grass as far as possible to do it as close to the May elections as possible, to enable her party to get the unlock bounce at the polls.

"What are you talking about? Schools are starting to return from Monday. How is that indicative of no sign of restrictions being eased?"

I know DumplingsAndStew things are looking up, wish others could see it! Lockdown is easing a tiny bit from Monday🤷

blowinahoolie · 17/02/2021 10:40

cocopops that's uncalled for.

I think for some it's a case of "I want to be able to do the things that suit ME!" and screw anyone else.

Things are changing. Schools are starting to return, and more news is coming about moving forward. It's absolutely correct to do this at a slow, manageable pace, where there's time and space for observing and monitoring changes. Anything else would be really stupid and dangerous.... like telling people they can take a few days off for Christmas 🙄

MrsPerfect12 · 17/02/2021 10:55

@noname55
Doh! I predict the P4-7 will be back after Easter. Sorry I missed them off.
I could very well be a bit optimistic but I mean May for pubs. Wish we could edit 😂😂😂

blowinahoolie · 17/02/2021 11:14

Yep, the whole Christmas thing was a bit of a farce. Hopefully we are on the up now. Best to be cautious opening up schools gradually. Thank goodness we have someone in government who is not rushing things (thanks Nicola).

cocopops · 17/02/2021 11:40

For those thinking things are on the up and everything in the garden is rosy, have you seen the SG consultation on extending the coronavirus legislation until September?

MrsPerfect12 · 17/02/2021 11:44

@cocopops that's a wise precaution as we navigate through various mutations of a virus.

I disagree. To continue to use the criminal law to drive peoples’ behaviour and response to a public health issue is totally disproportionate.

emmathedilemma · 17/02/2021 11:52

oh do forgive me for omitting that a small proportion of kids are going to be returning to school and yes, there is a bit of the "I want to do things that suit me" but quite frankly I've done a year of this doing things to save other people and I've had enough of it!

Hear hear. Once the vulnerable are all vaccinated, there should be a prompt and immediate return to normal. Short of only being responsible for someone else’s health if I drive my car at them with an intention to kill, neither you or I are responsible for anyone else’s health behind our families and we should not have our personal freedoms and liberty curtailed due to a perceived duty of care to the world and its mother!
mumlurker · 17/02/2021 12:15

She goes on the TV every day and never mentions independence, yet you're all claiming she can't stop banging on about it...

mumlurker · 17/02/2021 12:18

And delaying the election doesn't seem very democratic to me.

DumplingsAndStew · 17/02/2021 12:22

Can you imagine the outcry if the elections were cancelled? 😂😂
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 17/02/2021 12:25

She has lost the plot. Thankfully a lot of people seem to see that now. I feel like I've been screaming at the tv since last April.

As for crossing council boundaries 😂 that is an actual crime? People who support do you also understand that the border controls she has put in place are actually not legal?

Why bother vaccinating if it doesn't work? Ah well I shall continue committing crime by going about my day to day business

blowinahoolie · 17/02/2021 12:55

"Ah well I shall continue committing crime by going about my day to day business"

My brother has a similar attitude to yourself. I leave him to it. Ultimately we are all entitled to our own views on this. No point falling out about it. We live in different regions so will visit him once restrictions are eased. He respects my wishes even if he thinks it's overkill🤷

mumlurker · 17/02/2021 12:57

@DumplingsAndStew

I know...if you all hate Nicola so much, shouldn't you be glad to have an election where you can vote for someone else?

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 17/02/2021 12:58

@blowinahoolie absolutely I'm not forcing anyone to see me. Few family members feel similar and I absolutely respect that. They are however all in stable jobs with key worker places or at home with older kids.

I support short lockdowns when it looks like infections are out of control or even that they might be. Key word being short. It should then be lifted after no longer than 3 weeks.

mumwalk · 17/02/2021 13:23

Any thoughts on when the rest of primary years will go back? 2 weeks of school holidays are looming, wish they'd just move Easter break to March so if kids go back April they are not losing yet another 2 weeks.

It was said yesterday that they will review after two weeks, but that it's unlikely that any other groups will return before 15th March at the earliest.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-56095795 blended learning not stopping any time soon Sad

So if they don't go back around 15th March the it's mid-April at the earliest. Don't know how much longer my kids can cope with this, so another 2 months seem impossible just now.
