Why have I been invited for vaccination?!

Anxiouspiggie · 16/02/2021 14:41

I received a text from my GP surgery yesterday and have received a phone call from them today trying to arrange my appointment. I asked them why I have been contacted and all they could say is that I am group 6.

I am 37, no underlying health conditions, not a care worker or anything. I am a bit confused. Are there any other reasons I might be in group 6?

I told them I am not declining the vaccine but would rather wait which they were fine with.

Weight?

Proudpeacock · 16/02/2021 14:43

Are you on their records as an unpaid carer for someone?

roastpotatoesss · 16/02/2021 14:45

Quite a few people I know who aren't in any of the 9 priority groups have been offered theirs in the last week- I think it just depends where you live and how your GP is working through their list. I'd grab it with both hands and not ask questions!

Anxiouspiggie · 16/02/2021 14:45

I'm a healthy bmi and no I've never been a carer for anyone.

I was surprised to receive my text yesterday, it was only when I checked the conditions I realised it was because I’m type 2 diabetic (thought it was in a higher group like asthma). My condition is in remission but I opted to book in straight away because I work in a school.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 16/02/2021 14:46

Just get it done!

Anxiouspiggie · 16/02/2021 14:47

But the GP specifically said I am group 6. 🤷‍♀️

Weight?
Occupation?(what do you do?
Ethnicity?

1.7m added to shielding list today, will get offered vaccinations if they haven't already had one.

Why did you turn it down?

Anxiouspiggie · 16/02/2021 14:48

I'm going to wait my turn, but it's just odd

roastpotatoesss · 16/02/2021 14:50

Did you ask them what they'd based it on?

Missed in your OP that you'd turned it down, as I said before I'd grab it with both hands- who knows when they might get round to calling you again.

Maryann1975 · 16/02/2021 14:50

I would say that you have been invited so it is your turn. By messing with their list, you are adding extra administration to the job which could be avoided if you just went now.

I'm surprised you haven't realised you're in a high risk group for many months now. Many of the people who have died were diabetic.

Even if you're diet controlled (as I am) you're high risk.

Anxiouspiggie · 16/02/2021 14:51

I am not overweight, I am white. I am a key worker but not in a frontline, nhs, carer capacity. Think more utilities. But I know teachers and police aren't being vaccinated yet and I would be behind them.

There must be some mistakes in the data held by GPs & others. There is no way those datasets don't have some errors in them.

Under GDPR I think you have a right to ask what their records say and look for factual inaccuracies, if it matters to you to know.

XiCi · 16/02/2021 14:51

Its even more odd that you'd turn it down tbh. Why not just get it done when offered? Its just creating more admin work to mess round saying you want it at a later date

If you have been invited -it's your turn

You're not helping, your just creating more work.

Speak to your GP to clarify why you've been invited.

sheslittlebutfierce · 16/02/2021 14:54

we have been wondering about this as my DH has been invited for his.
We have worked out it is either his BMI or the fact that approximately 50 years ago he had a lung condition.
Whatever, everyone is being offered in time so just accept

Ohnomoreno · 16/02/2021 14:54

Really wish it was my turn!

LegendDairy · 16/02/2021 14:56

When you turn it down it'll count towards the 'those who don't accept the vaccine' figure.

Anxiouspiggie · 16/02/2021 14:58

I didn't turn it down. The lady who phoned me said she would put on file that I would wait. It was actually her idea as I was questioning it.

If it's genuinely my turn I would take it but I am just trying to figure out if it is as I assumed I wouldn't be done for a while.

If they called you, it's your turn.

This thread seems quite strange- does it matter why they called you if you turned it down (for now) anyway?

The more people who get vaccinated as quickly as they can, the better- the rollout is a huge administrative and logistical undertaking, it stands to reason that not everywhere will be following the exact right priority list, or maybe get someone's priority group muddled up. I personally think it was foolish to not accept it.

Anxiouspiggie · 16/02/2021 15:06

I understand everyone will have it done and I will do. I was just trying to work out why I may have been called now as the GP surgery couldn't tell me.

It saves a lot of time and effort if you just say yes.
They’ve now got to ring you back at some point.

IggyAce · 16/02/2021 15:20

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants I know I’m at higher risk but I got my diabetes under control pretty fast and lost weight so overall have reduced my risk, since it wasn’t included on the shielding list I just expect to be in groups 9.

partyatthepalace · 16/02/2021 15:20

Maybe it’s a glitch

They are rolling out to millions so the most important thing to do is crack on and take it. It will slow don’t the process if you reject or query it, they don’t have time to deal with it.
