Why have I been invited for vaccination?!

I received a text from my GP surgery yesterday and have received a phone call from them today trying to arrange my appointment. I asked them why I have been contacted and all they could say is that I am group 6.

I am 37, no underlying health conditions, not a care worker or anything. I am a bit confused. Are there any other reasons I might be in group 6?

I told them I am not declining the vaccine but would rather wait which they were fine with.

I think just go. It creates more work to turn it down and having to be rebooked in a few weeks.

Butterfly44 · 16/02/2021 16:06

It will be something in your medical record that flagged. Have you had any past conditions, even though they are no resolved? I know a couple in the same situation - one has past chest breathlessness issues, another repeated chest infections. Past instances flag up

Topseyt · 16/02/2021 16:11

I can't see why you didn't grab it with both hands, to be honest. I am group 6 and still waiting for mine.

thecatisaliveandwell · 16/02/2021 17:43

Oh Gawd 'elp us. Not another one of THESE threads. How many times does it have to be said that one more person.....age/underlying conditions irrelevant....who gets this vaccine is one less person who is protected, meaning we are likely to get out of this pandemic sooner.

Just thank the deity of your choice for the virologists who have worked day and night to produce this.

thecatisaliveandwell · 16/02/2021 17:44

sorry, I mean one MORE person....

neonjumper · 16/02/2021 17:50

@Anxiouspiggie

I understand everyone will have it done and I will do. I was just trying to work out why I may have been called now as the GP surgery couldn't tell me.
Just go, stop creating more admin work for already overworked surgeries. Surely you can chase up why your in group 6 later .
Oblomov21 · 16/02/2021 17:53

Yet another similar thread. 3 others the same. You are causing more work. Hmm

BlueTimes · 16/02/2021 17:54

If you are down as category six then it means your medical records show you are one of those listed. If it’s wrong, you need to get your records amended to show they are incorrect.

Why have I been invited for vaccination?!
anniegun · 16/02/2021 17:57

I suspect their records are wrong. My son was contacted and offered a vaccine as he was a front line care worker. He has never been one - so no idea how they came to that conclusion. He declined as he has recently had Covid so can happily wait till his age group comes round

TheLaughingGenome · 16/02/2021 18:00

Algorithm, using mis-ticking of boxes probably.

Can you see any of your records, eg via your GP surgery's system online service?

Mine has the wrong allergy down for me. I've been meaning to query it for ages, but there's always a pesky pandemic in the way. Someone's also mis-recorded my total hysterectomy so I've been called for an unnecessary smear.

Stuff happens.

SeasonFinale · 16/02/2021 18:06

I would call back and make sure she hasn't listed you as refused vaccine!

DavidsSchitt · 16/02/2021 18:13

"I would call back and make sure she hasn't listed you as refused vaccine!"

So even more work then?

My friends dh in early 50's also had his last week after call from drs, not overweight and no medical conditions , called on same day my dad over 65 was , yet my mum 64 is still waiting.
He took the vaccination though, I have mixed feelings on it , in one way I don't blame him but on the other hand my mum is still waiting .
@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants I know I’m at higher risk but I got my diabetes under control pretty fast and lost weight so overall have reduced my risk, since it wasn’t included on the shielding list I just expect to be in groups 9.
You did well. I got mine into 'normal' in 3 months after being told I wouldn't be able to do it without metformin.

Can you eat 'normally' now or do you control your diet?

I keep mine under control with diet & exercise but when I went into hospital to have my appendix out, they shot up. So it's easy to see how badly my body would react to meds in hospital, let alone covid. Even though my HbA1c is normal

I'm relieved to have had my first vax & (in another 2 weeks) have some protection

I agree that turning it down or asking to wait, rather than just accepting it creates more work and slows the process.

It isn’t for you to know or judge whether it’s your turn or not, but for the system to know. They offered it to you and as we hear repeatedly, when you get the offer, please take it up and do so quickly.

We do t have to get I they queue in the place we think we should be....that wouldn’t work with people pushing themselves to the front...so the queue is decided and we then get told. You have been told.

And even if there are slight errors in the system with individuals in the wrong group, the whole system can go faster and more efficient, with the current system, than if they rabidly check that everyone has been categorised correctly and go through their files with a fine tooth comb or chat to everyone.

I think you should have just taken it....expressed surprise, fine, but then been glad and gone ahead and booked.

If she doesn't check and has been marked down as refused vaccine she might get offered it again.
SeasonFinale · 19/02/2021 08:55

*might NOT get offered it again

milkysmum · 19/02/2021 08:59

If people get called and offered vaccine please don't be martyrs and ' give your place to someone else'. It just creates more work for the admin team, and in all honestly just pisses people off. The quicker we can everyone vaccinated the better.
