I’m tucked up in bed with post-vaccination side effects. Anyone else had this?

First things first, I’m glad I had the vaccination, I’m not suggesting it’s unwise. I had the AZ jab yesterday afternoon and am now tucked up in bed feeling very grim. Shivery, achy, a bit sick. Anyone else had this?

I’m normally fit and had it because if my job. Apparently this reaction is more common if you’ve had Covid before ( think I did last March) and if you are younger ( yay me, a tender 42).

I’m feeling very sorry for myself as I’m missing being with the children for a bit of non homeschool time. And all my bits ache. I might phone down for an ice lolly soon.....

Not vaccinated yet but I'd say about a third of friends/family who have had it have felt like OP for a day or two max.

Tanfastic · 18/02/2021 20:32

Yep, I had the same, 47, never had covid, NHS worker. Not sure about the theory you have worse side effects if you've had it though as I know lots who've had covid who didn't get any side effects so 🤔

Enidblyton1 · 18/02/2021 20:36

Sorry you’re feeling a tiny bit ill OP. But I wish you hadn’t started this thread. You mean no harm, but what if some overly anxious person reads all about people having side effects and decides not to have the vaccine?

Weepingwillow22 · 18/02/2021 20:43

I had covid in December. I had the pfizer vaccine this week and did not have any side effects other than a sore arm.

Hi @Enidblyton1 speaking as someone who is anxious about the vaccine, I actually appreciate posts like this because I feel I know what to expect versus people acting as though there is absolutely no chance of anything happening at all. For me, it builds trust.

i had the AZ vaccine. for the following 24 hours i felt like i’d been run over but paracetamol and sleep helped and i was completely fine after a day.

it’s all in the leaflet you’re given - it’s a very common side effect. i’d rather 24 hours feeling rubbish than end up on a ventilator with covid.

swings and roundabouts, innit.

Bertiebiscuit · 18/02/2021 20:51

I had the Pfizer jab 2 weeks ago - am still extra tired and my arm still aches a lot - but the really bad thing was about a week of horrible dizziness - like being on a boat in a rough sea - accompanied by buzzing in my ears - really scared me but is 99% gone now

Enidblyton1 · 18/02/2021 20:54

Well yes @annabellacomestotea it can be a good thing too. Just has the potential to go either way.

I don't think anyone has said that the side effects were so bad that they regret having the vaccine.

I personally found it reassuring to see that others had had similar side effects to me (and that they went away again!).

I've spent the past 11 months shielding and am delighted to have had the vaccine. But that hasn't stopped me feeling thoroughly rubbish this week after having it.

Rainbowsandstorms · 18/02/2021 23:22

@Enidblyton1 as someone who struggles with health anxiety I find threads like this very helpful as I know what to possibly expect and by knowing that lots of people have had these types of side effects I’ll feel less anxious if I suffer from them as I know they are common. As a parent of young children it’s also useful to be able to plan for this and maybe have the vaccination at a different time to my husband.

sneakysnoopysniper · 18/02/2021 23:28

Ive had a headache, aching joints, mild fever and shivers but being self employed I have had to just get on with it. Probably better than having covid!

Purplewithred · 18/02/2021 23:30

Yup. Although I also tested +ve for covid 3 days after the jab - I suspect i had asymptomatic covid before I had my vaccination.

Hurtandupset2 · 18/02/2021 23:31

I had AZ jab on Friday. That evening my temp spiked to 40°C and my head was pounding. Chills too. Felt awful and couldn't get temp down even with ibuprofen and paracetamol. Lasted until Monday afternoon, and although I still have a slight temp I'm feeling much better.

My side effects may have been worse bc I'd already had a tummy bug for a week before the jab. I wasn't advised not to go ahead though. I also had covid early-ish last year.

StrangerHereMyself · 18/02/2021 23:31

As the vaccine comes down the ages to MN’s core demographic I do think it’s useful to know that if two parents in their early fifties are offered the vaccine at the same time then they probably shouldn’t book the same day even if it is a messy drive away and it would be more convenient to go together. Just as healthcare employers learned the hard way not to get all their employees booked in on the same day.

saraclara · 18/02/2021 23:40

Yes. About eight hours after the jab, I suddenly felt awful. Had the shivers and ached all over. I went to bed, heating was only just going off so radiators still warm. I was in full length pyjamas, under a 13.5 tog duvet with a doubled over blanket on top. And still chilled to my bones and shaking.

Didn't make it out of bed until nearly lunchtime next day, and just decamped to the sofa under a blanket for the rest of the day. Mild temperature for 48 hours.

saraclara · 18/02/2021 23:44

...and yes, I hadn't heard of these bad side effects before, so I was worried that I actually had covid, and was confusing it with vaccine effects. If I'd seen a thread like this beforehand, I wouldn't have been so anxious.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 18/02/2021 23:45

I had the covid jab on the Monday and had covid by the Sunday. What I thought were side effects were covid. Look after yourself.

My mum vomited got 3 days straight with the Az
I had the Pfizer and had a numb face for 2 days

MonochromeMinnie · 18/02/2021 23:50

I had my first Pfizer jab last weekend. Sore arm and a slight headache on the evening but no after-effects since.

Mumshappy · 18/02/2021 23:53

My parents both had the Az.. Both late sixties and neither had any side effects. Im 42 and had the Pfizer last Friday. No side effects either. Not everybody is going to have them. People who get side effects are still in a better position than if they had Covid.

Enidblyton1 · 18/02/2021 23:53

@Rainbowsandstorms that makes sense - it’s good it’s helping your anxiety. As long as the thread remains like this, then it’s being helpful. If people start reporting alarming symptoms (remember we don’t know on the internet who is lying and who is telling the truth), that’s when it could be dangerous.

If it helps, both my parents, parents in law, and sister in law have had the vaccine (mixture of Pfizer and AZ) and none of them have had any reaction whatsoever.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/02/2021 00:23

My friend’s son had AZ last week - he’s early 20s with Down’s Syndrome. He had a high temperature, felt shivery, headache, and really tired for almost exactly 24 hours, then bang, 100% fine. My mum and MIL both had the same jab and just had slightly sore arms.

Not related, but I was absolutely rotten after my flu jab this year. I get it every year for work and usually have a little bit of a sore arm that I only notice when drying my hair the day after. DP had it the same day and he didn’t even have a sore arm.

40somethingJBJ · 19/02/2021 00:40

I had my AZ jab 12 hours ago and all of a sudden I’m absolutely freezing. Fully shivering and teeth chattering. Hoping it sorts itself out pretty quickly as I’ve got a click and collect to pick up tomorrow, booked before I knew I was having the jab.
