Best guess for hairdressers reopening in England?

I know it's not important in the greater scheme of things but I can't even blow dry my own hair let alone tackle the roots. When do we, realistically, think hairdressers will reopen in England?

OP posts:

May

Delatron · 10/02/2021 21:16

I think May 4th will be the magic day for hairdressers/pubs/ restaurants.

Frazzled2207 · 10/02/2021 21:18

oh God. That's three months! I am optimistically going to say April.

Katie517 · 10/02/2021 21:19

My sister in law owns a salon and they are tentatively working towards April based on some leaks through their industry body, very similar to the leak that was in the Times article at the weekend. Gyms and hairdressers are apparently being considered before non essential retail due to booming systems and very low transmission before.

Twickerhun · 10/02/2021 21:19

May possibly? After Easter I’d have thought.

Katie517 · 10/02/2021 21:19

*booking systems!

NotJackieWeaver · 10/02/2021 21:20

2 inches or so.....

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/02/2021 21:20

I don't know, but I do wonder how so many TV personalities and other known faces manage to look so well presented, hairwise, while I seem to be turning into Aragorn's windswept cousin.

No names will be mentioned.

BakewellGin1 · 10/02/2021 21:21

I am praying for soon...
Even oldest DS is furious at the thought of returning to school in his current scruffy state!!
Youngest DS looks like stig of the dump
I can box dye and do but its definitely due a professional job

GreenLlama · 10/02/2021 21:27

I read that there is a rule that people who work on camera are allowed hairdressers and makeup artists still

oh thank God. I was thinking exactly that the other day. The thing with hairdressers is they're all very small and there are never that many people in an actual shop and it can be tightly controlled. Totally different to shops. Yes you can limit numbers but people naturally crowd together.
User7458 · 10/02/2021 21:27

Hopefully April, I did trim my fringe yesterday, I have curly hair so it doesn't notice so much if I go wrong. It's nothing as bad as the state of our good leaders hair though who looked like Worzel Gummage at the briefing earlier, thing is hairdressers probably don't feature highly on his list of places to open.

InterfectoremVulpes · 10/02/2021 21:28

Hoping for after Easter

Politicians as well?

BananaPop2020 · 10/02/2021 21:38

@ChardonnaysPetDragon this is so true. The Royals are also guilty of this.

User7458 · 10/02/2021 21:38

I thought that people on the telly did their own hair as the tall male presenter on BBC breakfast, don't know his name, was talking about his hair and saying it was a bit long, also I sure Louise Minchin mentioned trimming her fringe

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/02/2021 21:47

Some of the well known public faces seem to be doing a remarkably good job, almost miracles with a pair of nail scissors and a box of Clairol finest.

poppycat10 · 10/02/2021 21:48

1st March in Germany even though their lockdown has been extended to at least 8th.

But it will be after Easter here because salons are such dangerous places.

Villanelle17 · 10/02/2021 21:53

Beginning of April. I have a disability where my shoulders sublux so having to wash my own hair is a nightmare and causing more pain. Usually go once a week to have it washed and blow dried.
I heard after Easter for hair and beauty

are they? I honestly haven't heard of anyone picking up covid in any kind of salon. They wear significant PPE here.
PatsyJStone · 10/02/2021 22:22

If schools open in March then it could be then. My hairdresser does kits to takeaway and I’ve been lucky! Worked brilliantly for me.

GreenLlama · 10/02/2021 22:25

I wonder if politicians can use it as a loophole if they are appearing on the tv?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 10/02/2021 22:29

Why can't you blow dry your own hair? Confused

PinkPiranha11 · 10/02/2021 22:36

Loads of people doing “underground” home visits. I’m not saying it’s right however if you close down people’s businesses and don’t give them any financial support then what do they expect. I was having a jokey sort of moan to an acquaintance about how I’m desperate for a few beauty bits done and she said she could fix me up with loads of people doing visits - honestly - Botox and everything 😮

GoldenPenPot · 10/02/2021 22:43

May, which is bollocks.
