Disgusted

I don’t have anyone to talk to about this in RL. A friend has just told me that her ex BIL tested positive for Covid back in December. He was in South Africa. He then got on a plane the next day and flew to the UK. This was before you needed a negative PCR test to enter the country. He came here to live permanently. He was starting a new job and didn’t want to postpone his start date. WTAF. What do I do with this information? What if he brought the SA variant here and spread it? My head is spinning. Why the hell did the government wait so long to enforce PCR tests before flying?! I feel nothing to report this guy but can I even do that? If I can then who do I call?

Disgusting. What's even more scary is how blasé and accepting many posters are of this behaviour.

namechange63524 · 09/02/2021 16:08

He got on a plane knowing he had covid. He then went and mixed with a group of carers. What an absolute c*.

CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 16:50

@DWPmisery1972 Nope. Feel free to report and check with MNHQ.

Crap behaviour. But nothing to report now really. Try to forget it.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 09/02/2021 21:43

I totally understand your disgust OP. Sadly it’s too late to report but this is exactly why travel restrictions have to be much tighter and should have been from the start - as fundamentally people either can’t be trusted or don’t realise they are a risk if asymptomatic.

Just reading another thread re. 10 year prison sentences and on the face of it that seems extreme. Then I think butterfly effect and one dickhead like this could infect 10’s/100’s people and the consequence of that is huge.

I have British friends living in Asia where there are hardly any community cases. It’s because they crack down hard and fast. We think it’s extreme but who has had liberties removed the longest and the most severe impact.

Understandingnotignorance · 09/02/2021 22:05

That's really disgusting op, can't stand people who knowingly mix like this but unfortunately from the sound of it he isn't alone in such ignorance and selfishness. Like a poster says, I wonder how blasé people would be if it was one of their loved ones adversely infected as a result of someone like this.

DBML · 10/02/2021 00:41

Who ya gonna call? 🤔

Chocolateraincloud3 · 10/02/2021 00:50

I think it’s absolutely disgusting aswell

Coffeeandaride · 10/02/2021 00:54

It does seem too late to be informing anyone.
I presume you are only hearing this now, are you sure the story-teller doesn’t take liberties with facts/ fill in blanks? Why didn’t someone who knew then stop him? Did he do it unknown to anyone? Then why start telling people when the news about SA variant has really got going?

I'm not sure exactly what it is you want to report? There was no South African variant in December as far as I'm aware? So therefore he did nothing wrong.
Mockolate · 10/02/2021 01:30

@nocoolnamesleft

What a fucking selfish cunt, to knowingly fly with, and import, a new dangerous variant. If I was his boss I'd hope I could legally sack him for wilfully endangering the lives of his new colleagues.
You're assuming he knew that it was a dangerous new variant though?
AfterSchoolWorry · 10/02/2021 01:37

@IcedPurple

How's the weather in Tunbridge Wells?
😂😂

I thought the same.

Inkpaperstars · 10/02/2021 02:14

Well, the person in question is obviously completely disgraceful...words fail me actually. But then many people are that way unfortunately which is why we are reliant on govt to put in place controls to limit the damage such people can and will do if given a chance. The govt didn’t so there will likely have been many similar incidents. We can’t remove selfish idiots from the population, we can only try to limit the damage they can do.

eaglejulesk · 10/02/2021 03:14

What he did was wrong, obviously, but really his employers just let someone fly in from SA and start work as a carer almost immediately, without a test? Then they must take some of the responsibility. There's nothing to be gained from reporting him now however, it will be a case of your word against his. You need to let it go.

CocoMelon21 · 10/02/2021 07:44

@Mockolate the new variant was discovered and reported about in November. I have family in SA. Everyone knew. Also, you say he did nothing wrong?! New variant or not, he was Covid positive and knew it. How can you say he did nothing wrong?

@Mockolate

Surely it’s not ok whatever variant it is?

We’ve had so many examples of selfish individuals that unfortunately it does call for stricter measures. It’s a shame the government have been so trusting of people up until now. Most of us could foresee some people doing what they like.

Sorry, missed where it said he flew after testing positive Blush
In my defence it was late (early).
Yes, he should never have done that.
