I don’t have anyone to talk to about this in RL. A friend has just told me that her ex BIL tested positive for Covid back in December. He was in South Africa. He then got on a plane the next day and flew to the UK. This was before you needed a negative PCR test to enter the country. He came here to live permanently. He was starting a new job and didn’t want to postpone his start date. WTAF. What do I do with this information? What if he brought the SA variant here and spread it? My head is spinning. Why the hell did the government wait so long to enforce PCR tests before flying?! I feel nothing to report this guy but can I even do that? If I can then who do I call?

I didn’t know MN had so many comedians. You’re just so hilarious 🙄 He came here to be a carer BTW. For the elderly and vulnerable. You know, the people who tend to get seriously ill and or die from Covid. But yes, let’s keep making jokes aimed at the neurotic woman who actually gives a fuck about other human beings.

CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 13:45

@Beyondfedupnow It’s totally their fault. I agree. It would have cost nothing to enforce a negative test to fly rule.

I think for your own sake you need to let this one go.

IcedPurple · 09/02/2021 13:48

How's the weather in Tunbridge Wells?

InterfectoremVulpes · 09/02/2021 13:52

So did the care company who employed someone from SA (in the middle of a pandemic) to care for the elderly and vulnerable not test him before sending him off to other peoples houses?

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 09/02/2021 14:06

@afternooncuppa

I'd get on to MI5 if I were you.
Cover all bases and inform GCHQ and MI6 as well.
CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 14:07

@InterfectoremVulpes Considering he started working within days of arriving I don’t think so. I do know that he arrived, did group training for a few days and then went off to work. Those he did group training with were obviously exposed, could have contracted the virus and were then deployed around the country to start their caring posts. That’s all I know. I don’t know where he is now or who the caring agency is. My neighbour also works as a carer and I know for a fact she has only been tested once and that was because she had symptoms. She is in and out of peoples homes all the time and her agency has never made her get tested.

OP I get why you're pissed. He shouldn't have had to be told to isolate when he arrived or not to travel with a diagnosis but he did because he was 'allowed' to. It was stupid that he could do that and stupid that he did. But the damage is done. Even if we could go way back and discover patient zero, what good does it do beyond working out how they got it? He can't and won't be punished for what he did so I'd really try to forget it or just be glad you don't know anyone directly who's that selfish and thick. You'll only end up annoyed yourself. I completely get where you're coming from though.

InterfectoremVulpes · 09/02/2021 14:19

So maybe its the care company you should be reporting for putting people at risk 🤷‍♀️

BigBadVoodooHat · 09/02/2021 14:36

I don’t have anyone to talk to about this in RL.

That's a shame.

It's great that you were able to join MN today to talk about it though. Smile

Lollipop1234 · 09/02/2021 14:44
@islockdownoveryet you’re right. It’s shocking. I don’t understand why they didn’t make people provide a negative test result before flying from the start. It is such a simple but effective measure to have in place.
Even then people like this would find a way round it...

I agree it’s abhorrent but there’s nothing to be done.

Having said that, did the mp who went on the train get prosecuted/fined?

These cases should be fairly easy to prove - if there were resources available, as there should be evidence date of test and date of travel. Too late to help stop the spread anyway, that damage is already done.

Lollipop1234 · 09/02/2021 14:47

“ It’s here because of twats like this and the twats who run this country”

Nicely summed up

GintyMcGinty · 09/02/2021 14:48

He shouldn't have done it but realistically there's nothing to be done about it now.

Big deep breath and move on.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/02/2021 14:53

Tower of London straight away

CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 15:07

@BigBadVoodooHat Longtime MN user here. It’s called a name change 🙄

TillyTopper · 09/02/2021 15:10

Ignore and move on. If he wasn't detected quickly it's way too late now!

CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 15:11

@BigBadVoodooHat and even if I was new, what’s your point? Why does it matter? It’s great that you were able to take the time out of your day just to leave a bitchy comment though. Feel better now?

OliveTree75 · 09/02/2021 15:14

Do you know anything about his circumstances? I guess not because why would you know this about friends ex BIL. Maybe he was desperate for the job/money? Not saying he did the right thing but there are plenty people in the UK going to work with covid or covid symptoms because they can't afford not to!

Staffy1 · 09/02/2021 15:15

Don't know why people think it's so funny to be disgusted at this. I'm sure they would find it less amusing if one of their relatives was in the care home this person came to work in.

ZaZathecat · 09/02/2021 15:24

Obviously there's nothing you can do about it op, but it is more than a little frustrating to hear about. It's not any old rule break. He didn't sit in his mum's back garden for a coffee and a chat, he got on a flight knowing full well he had Covid, possibly spreading it to many other passengers who all went on to land in the UK and spread it further, Selfish git.

InterfectoremVulpes · 09/02/2021 15:27

@Staffy1

Well yes, but it would be the care home / company who would be responsible for shipping in someone from abroad and not even resting them before allowing them anywhere near a vulnerable person
CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 15:30

@Staffy1 and @ZaZathecat thank you both! I don’t know why this has turned into a big joke. I really don’t see the humour in it at all.

Is this daily fail bait, I genuinely can’t tell anymore

nocoolnamesleft · 09/02/2021 15:59

What a fucking selfish cunt, to knowingly fly with, and import, a new dangerous variant. If I was his boss I'd hope I could legally sack him for wilfully endangering the lives of his new colleagues.
