Craving a cafe cup of tea!

Wouldn't it just be amazing to nip to a cafe for a tea and maybe slice of toast?
The cafes have been shut here since October and I literally can't wait to go and sit inside and enjoy a nice relax!

No point to this thread, I'm just so excited!

I can make much nicer tea at home, but this is my biggest dream right now!

FallenSky · 04/02/2021 07:20

Yes! DS and I went to one of his medical appointments the other day, usually we'd then pop in to a cafe after and have something to eat and just spend time together. We came straight home and had a sandwich, back to home learning. I really missed it that day!

november90 · 04/02/2021 07:43

@beela hahah yes that's very true, but the thought of having one outside the house just feels like Christmas!

Or maybe even going out for an ice cream with my sons. I literally can't wait!!!! Life will be so much more exciting :)

@november90 it really does! Can't wait.

CeeJay81 · 04/02/2021 07:54

This is one of the little things I miss so much too, although for me it's a nice coffee. I took my DD down the park the other day first time this year, it was sooo cold. If only we could have popped into the cafe there for a cuppa and cake to warm is up. It's those little pleasures we miss. Can't wait till they open!

november90 · 04/02/2021 07:56

Absolutely or maybe even a eat in trip for tea out!

Agree! I was very surprised in the first lockdown to discover how much I missed cafes. Either by myself or with friends, they provide a little break in the day.

Hopefully not too much longer.

CovidPostingName · 04/02/2021 08:02

Oh lordy me too! I can't wait for this, to sit down in a cafe, cake and coffee with a friend, the sound of other people chatting, cutlery clinking, background music. I will be ecstatic!

Flaxmeadow · 04/02/2021 08:03

Yes I know what you mean. I'm in the north and it's even longer since being able to do this. The only time I seem to remember anywhere being open was around the eat out to help out scheme

I wasn't one for going in cafes or pubs on a regular basis BC (before coronavirus) but it was nice to occasionally arrange to meet up with friends and family. To be able to say, let's meet for a coffee or lunch, or to just walk past a cafe or pub and just pop in for pot of tea and a bun, or gin and tonic.

I was in a town centre recently, helping someone with an important appointment and we both got there far too early. There was nothing to do but just walk around. We couldn't even sit down anywhere outside with a takeaway coffee due to the weather.

Vaccines going well though, so hopefully some change coming WineBrewCake and spring is on the way

DinosaurDiana · 04/02/2021 08:09

There is honestly no where that does better tea/coffee and toast than my own from home.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 04/02/2021 08:11

Ooh, yes, I totally agree! One of my favourite simple life pleasures, that I always took for granted of course.
It's also just the cosy atmosphere in cafés and coffee shops that I love. I love café culture, especially in winter. I feel the loss of them far more keenly now than in lockdown #1. Hopefully not long now...
The only silver lining re that is that I've saved myself a fortune! I had no idea how much I was spending in cafés each week before! Though, it was always money well spent. I'll relish my next café visit post-lockdown Smile

Whenwillow · 04/02/2021 08:12

It's the thing I miss most. I love sitting in a cafe, alone with my thoughts and a cuppa, chatting with a friend over tea and cake, or working on my ipad. There's just something soothing about the cafe vibe.

hopeishere · 04/02/2021 08:15

I thought this the other day (but for coffee). To have a meal or anything served to me with no clearing up I'd heaven.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 04/02/2021 08:17

I just want to go to IKEA by myself - have a wander round all the lovely clean, tidy and nicely decorated little rooms in the show room and then a slice of dime cake and a strong filter coffee Sad

user1493413286 · 04/02/2021 08:21

I can’t wait for a meal out; Nando’s, a pub, a posh restaurant. Anything where I’m eating a meal I haven’t made somewhere that’s not my house.

Nighttimenope · 04/02/2021 08:27

This made me think of a conversation with my 4 1/2 yo the other day. We were reading a book and he asked me ‘what’s a cafe?’
It’s been so long he literally forgot what one was.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 04/02/2021 09:54

I will never complain about over prices Costa shit again*

*I absolutely will once the novelty has worn off.
And no, I won't stop going there. I will continue to pay through the nose for substandard hot chocolate and whinge about it.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 04/02/2021 09:55

I want to go to a pub and have lasagne and chips. Or pie and mash. With a couple of pints.

BikeRunSki · 04/02/2021 09:57

I dream of a meal that I don’t cook, and don’t eat in my house. DH is teasing me by saying that if I had another baby I’d get some tea and toast in hospital. Our youngest is 9! 😂

One of my favourite things to do was to drop the kids at school and go and have an IKEA fry up and a wander about looking at stuff.
Sparklingbrook · 04/02/2021 10:00

Definitely. I would even put up with a dribbly teapot at this stage as long as I was drinking tea out of the house!

InMySpareTime · 04/02/2021 10:03

Cafes round here are mostly open, but only for takeaway. Even then some killjoys made the council block off the benches near a park cafe to stop people "congregating" in household groups outdoors.
I'm looking forward to the after-times, when I can order a nice pot of loose-leaf tea, and drink it from a proper cup.
Paper cups don't really do it for me, and I'm tired of lukewarm tea.

Same here. I like the idea of coffee and cake in a coffee shop, but the reality is extortionate cost for something that's not as good as I can eat at home, the drinks are never hot enough, glacially slow service and my peace being disturbed by other people who never stop talking.

I would like to sit in the sun with a beer, G&T or bottle glass of cava, a book and an endless supply of tapas or other nibbly bits. But the reality is that next time I'll get to do this will be in Costa del back garden rather than on holiday somewhere Spanish. Just hoping and praying we have another hot and sunny spring/summer this year.

Sparklingbrook · 04/02/2021 10:17

I love the sitting in a teashop thing. You have to find a really good one and we've a few around here. Good service, excellent cuppa and very nice cakes. Worth every penny.

november90 · 04/02/2021 10:21

Wouldn't it just be amazing to do all of these things! Basically just to have something to do, somewhere to sit, somewhere to go!
It will come guys, and then we'll all be skint for eating and drink out too much and stuck in doors with no money 😂🙈
