Craving a cafe cup of tea!

november90 · 04/02/2021 07:16

Wouldn't it just be amazing to nip to a cafe for a tea and maybe slice of toast?
The cafes have been shut here since October and I literally can't wait to go and sit inside and enjoy a nice relax!

No point to this thread, I'm just so excited!

I dream of a meal that I don’t cook, and don’t eat in my house. DH is teasing me by saying that if I had another baby I’d get some tea and toast in hospital. Our youngest is 9! 😂

This is what I want most. Just a meal out. I'd settle for a bag of chips at the beach

I had a baby in August. Breakfast brought to my bed - toast, cereal, tea.

I chose sausage casserole for lunch with sponge and custard for pudding.

I'd just ordered my dinner (chicken curry with sticky toffee pudding) when the absolute bastards told me they were turfing me out (12 hours after a section, cheers covid).

Anyone else would've been delighted to be off the post natal ward and back in their own bed. I was just gutted to miss a few meals eaten outside of my own home and chosen from a menu Grin

RigaBalsam · 04/02/2021 10:34

This is my dream too. Walking to town for a latte and an eggs florentine in a local cafe. Smelling the coffee and the vibe.

I also want to walk to the pub for a glass of wine and some cheese and onion.

RigaBalsam · 04/02/2021 10:35

@Fuckadoodledoooo

I will never complain about over prices Costa shit again*

*I absolutely will once the novelty has worn off.
And no, I won't stop going there. I will continue to pay through the nose for substandard hot chocolate and whinge about it.

I just ordered one from Uber eats to take on my walk. 🙈
ParkheadParadise · 04/02/2021 10:38

Yes, I can't wait.
A full Scottish breakfast and a mug of tea at my local cafe.
Then later on that night a visit to the pub for dinner
Steak, chips and all the trimmings. Hot chocolate fudge cake and ice cream and a lovely bottle of wine.
When finished all I need to do is pay the bill and go home no dishes or tidying up 😂😂

If your youngest is 9, surely you've got someone capable of making you tea and toast, if not dinner?

We did pretty well in lockdown one, once we were clearly allowed to take a flask and sandwich. But I'm really looking forward to a good walk or nice gardens with a tea shop/tearoom.

BeastOfBODMAS · 04/02/2021 10:41

Oh I can’t wait to sit outside a cafe/pub with a coffee and watch the world go by.
I bought a thermos for that purpose just before Christmas and they only bastard banned that as well before I got to use it!

We have been having takeaway coffee most mornings as part of our morning walk. It has definitely been one of our daily highlights. Lots of cafes are seriously struggling now, so although it’s not the same definitely get a takeaway tea/coffee if you can, so that we can all go back to our favourite places after lockdown. I can’t wait to go back to Saturday mornings reading over a few coffees after the gym, absolute heaven!

afternooncuppa · 04/02/2021 13:37

To be able to say, let's meet for a coffee or lunch, or to just walk past a cafe or pub and just pop in for pot of tea and a bun, or gin and tonic.

Do you think we'll ever get this spontaneity back though? I imagine after "lock down" when things re-open we'll be back to the awful "tiers" with continued social distancing, masks, queues, having to book tables (which will all be booked anyway so won't get in), table service only, not mixing with other households - basically grim.

Can't see the point really.

beela · 04/02/2021 14:58

It will come eventually @afternooncuppa

SollaSollew · 04/02/2021 15:10

A cup of tea and slice of cake in a cafe is one of life's great pleasures.

Over the summer when restrictions were lower and my dd went back to swimming lessons I had a cup of tea in the cafe while I waited for her. It's a crappy Costa franchise but I had a big burst of joy just from the normalness of drinking a cup of tea like I had every week before Covid.

Sadly it only lasted a couple of weeks before things shut down again but I can't wait to feel like that again.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2021 15:23

I think there will be a lot of pent-up demand, and also inevitably more tea-drinking brits holidaying in the U.K.
I've seen evidence of quite a few cafes and pubs increasing their outdoors capacity, some with awnings etc. Hopefully these will do really well when things start to open up again.

Pluckedpencil · 04/02/2021 15:26

This is so true. In Italy where I am the bar and coffee is sacred. It has been on/off throughout the year in our region. Even when they were shut, we have been standing outside in the pissing rain with a little paper cup for a moment of socialisation after the school run, but it doesn't compare to espresso huddled at a table bitching together for five minutes before work. It's the little things!!

AlfonsoTheSensible · 04/02/2021 15:35

Ah, yes. I am looking forward to the luxury of sitting somewhere other than home and eating a meal that someone else has cooked.

My first port of call will be a cafe for breakfast.

After that, I am going to dress up and have dinner out with a bottle of wine - the heck with the cost.

I'd take it. Anything would be better than this.
likeamillpond · 04/02/2021 15:42

I wouldn't have tea and toast. You can have that anywhere.
For me it would be a hot chocilate wirh marshmallows, cream and a chocolate flak in the middle and maybe a massive slab of carrot and walnut cake to go with it.

No half measures Grin

LetItGoGo · 04/02/2021 15:45

Going to teashops / cafes is my version of going to the pub.
I miss it.

BeautifulStar · 04/02/2021 15:46

The thing I miss most is going to cafes/restaurants. I hate cooking and I’ve struggled more with that than not seeing family etc!

Il be back like a shot when they open.

BigWoollyJumpers · 04/02/2021 15:47

We are really lucky to have a museum, shop, and coffee shop, near us. Their coffee shop is just amazing. Lovely room, but also you can sit outside in lovely surroundings. Their cakes are just the best. They also do a mean toasted tea cake, and scones with local (cows in the next field!) clotted cream..... just can't wait.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/02/2021 16:02

That was the ultimate slap in the face round here last autumn. I can't remember which stage it was at, but there was a point where you couldn't eat inside but you could eat outside and obviously as we went into autumn/winter, no-one wants to do that, so all the pubs and restaurants put up marquees, awnings etc and started taking bookings and as just about as soon as these were all ready, they were told to close completely, so they'd spent the money, but were not able to use their investments. Sad

We've been getting quite a few posh takeaways from local restaurants and having them with nice wine at home, so had plenty of opportunity to eat without having to cook.

slightlysnippy · 04/02/2021 16:24

My craving today is for B&Q chicken wings and a Burrito from Chiquito's, and cake and Coffee at our Dog Cafe, after a nice walk along the beach would be lovely.

chocolateisavegetable · 04/02/2021 17:01

I so miss nipping into a cafe for a slice of cake! Buying cake to take home really isn't the same.

lightand · 04/02/2021 17:03

Thanks to even just reading the subject heading op, you have had me wanting it too!

lurker101 · 04/02/2021 17:06

@BarbaraofSeville I know it broke my heart, all the lovely pubs round here spent a small fortune on their beer gardens making them beautiful, and with heaters and had to close
